Chapter 18: Thunderclap
Chapter 18: Thunderclap
“Thunderclap Strike!”
His pupils flashed with electric light, and his voice roared like a lion or a dragon. Li Yi pointed a finger into the distance. The mana around his body surged out like a bursting dam.
Before the sound faded, a dark, shadowy figure appeared around him. It raised its head to the sky and let out a mighty roar, a sound of metal and jade that resonated with heaven and earth!
In the silent space, a sudden thunderclap struck!
“Kui Bull?” Yang Kai’s face changed dramatically. Even his seemingly fearless expression showed a trace of faint fear and agitation. “This… this is a secret art!”
The Kui Bull, an ancient gigantic beast, was known as the “Master of the Thunder Marsh.” This technique, which condensed the phantom of the Kui Bull, was clearly a profound and mysterious secret art!
However, what he did not know was that Thunderclap Strike was not even Sage-rank, but a low-level Imperial Rank secret art!
A pale beam of light twisted down silently. It wasn’t even very bright. The only thing was that as it streaked down, there was a creaking sound as if the Void itself was being torn apart.
Yang Kai smelled an intensely dangerous aura. His body trembled inexplicably. He covered his head and retreated, fleeing from the spot where the spell would land.
Right onto the Flame Servant!
Its light, like thunder from the nine heavens, left a lingering trace in the Void as it struck its body.
The terrifying fire giant did not move. The sacrificial flames covering it showed no fluctuation whatsoever, as if the thunderous light was just an illusion.
It paused for a moment, then took a step forward, completely unharmed.
“The secret art failed?” Yang Kai was stunned at first. His eyes flickered, revealing a look of delight. “Right, he’s just a Half-Step Mage. His cultivation is low, his mana is weak. How could he possibly wield a secret art?”
A second step.
A third step.
The Flame Servant’s body suddenly froze. The flames all over its body blazed intensely, as if doused in gasoline, transforming into a towering blue-green torch!
Boom!
Countless fine cracks spread continuously over the surface of its body. Amidst the deafening roar, eerie firelight scattered noisily in all directions.
“The Flame Servant, this creature, has sacrificial flames protecting its body, comparable to a Half-Step eighth layer!” Yang Kai’s face was full of disbelief, his eyes wide open. “Even if it’s a secret art, to destroy it with just one spell? What kind of secret art is this?”
Li Yi was panting heavily, his face slightly pale.
Several enhanced Mana Missiles and the Ink Earth Wall had used up all his Dragon-Turtle Qi. And this one Thunderclap Strike had completely drained the mana within his body.
“Your mana must be almost gone too!”
Yang Kai had originally considered retreating. Sensing his prey’s weakness, his smile gradually widened, a vicious glint in his eyes.
That mental assault with the might of a Dragon, that Ink Earth Wall with the pattern of the Black Tortoise, and now this high-level secret art that seemed unimpressive but held terrifying power… the young man before him had already displayed countless strange and mysterious techniques.
But, he had no mana left!
A mage without mana, even with a thousand tricks, what was there to fear?
“If he grows up… kill him!”
This was the only thought in Yang Kai’s mind.
With a deafening, violent roar, Yang Kai’s body hunched over. Large patches of mane sprouted continuously from his neck and other areas!
His jawbone became protruding and elongated, his fangs like knives. A pair of silver crescent-like gleams shot fiercely from his pupils, while moonlight overflowed outside his body.
In just a few breaths, he transformed into a fearsome, half-human, half-wolf appearance!
“Among transformation arts, the Wolf Transformation Art? He hasn’t even reached the Spell Apprentice Realm, how can he perform a transformation spell?”
Li Yi’s pupils contracted, his face showing astonishment. An inexplicable chill rose in his heart.
“Without mana, you’re just a tiger without teeth… kid, prepare to die!”
Yang Kai was not a man of many words. He pushed off with his feet, and after a few steps, he was on all fours, like a giant wolf from the wilderness on the hunt, charging forward swiftly!
Li Yi’s fingers danced. Two Mana Missiles condensed within his hand.
“Mana Missiles?”
A sneer appeared on the half-human, half-wolf face. Yang Kai was dismissive in his heart. This move of his was not a transformation spell.
The reason he understood bloodlines so well was because within his body flowed a faint trace of the superior “Greedy Wolf” bloodline.
This trace of bloodline was too faint, not dominant, but on the days close to the full moon, it could help him transform into a giant wolf.
When transformed into a giant wolf, he gained the effects of “Frenzy,” “Strength,” “Acuity,” “Shadow,” and “Magic Resistance,” becoming a true “Mage Killer”!
This bit of bloodline was his final trump card.
Mana Missiles?
Maybe they would cause some slight pain, but they absolutely could not cause him significant harm.
Yang Kai leaped into the air, completely ignoring those few insignificant Mana Missiles. His entire focus was on Li Yi.
Next moment, he would bite through his throat!
From the corner of his eye, he saw that there were actually three Mana Missiles, and they were an oddly deep and dark black!
The bloody maw full of teeth stopped just as it was about to touch Li Yi.
Immediately after, it was sent flying back at almost double the speed of its charge!
The violent force that erupted from his abdomen truly did not feel like Mana Missiles; it was more like a Wind Bullet spell!
Thump!
His violently retreating body traced a huge arc in the air, only coming to a stop after crashing into the stone wall. Spiderweb-like cracks spread continuously behind him, forming a massive semicircle.
Spitting out a mouthful of blood, Yang Kai let out a muffled groan, his head drooped, and he collapsed unconscious on the ground.
“Cough, cough…”
Li Yi coughed violently. He felt acid in his stomach, his body swayed unsteadily, and he couldn’t help but plop down to sit on the ground.
That was his final trick just now, the Ancient Alligator Qi hidden within his body.
The Dragon-Turtle Qi was vigorous and skilled in defense, while the Ancient Alligator Qi was violent and skilled in attack!
The double exhaustion of spirit and mana made Li Yi’s vision blur; he almost fainted on the spot.
Deep within his body, there was a fiery, burning pain!
Li Yi sat down. After several long, turtle-like breaths, he quietly entered meditation.
…
Not long after, two figures arrived as expected.
“Su Xuan’er, I’m in a bad mood right now, a very bad mood!” Yan Zhao’s voice was very impatient. “Don’t force me to make a move!”
“Yan Zhao, do you really think you can definitely win against me?” Su Xuan’er refused to back down.
The two had been arguing nonstop all the way.
Their expressions suddenly froze!
The forest rustled; this place was as quiet as before. But their eyes took in a scene of complete disarray!
Three members of the Hyena Gang lay twisted and fallen all over the ground. Their leader was slumped against the mountain wall, behind him a huge semicircular crack! One could imagine what kind of surging force had caused such a result.
That notorious Mountain Vulture lay on the ground, green smoke rising from its head, surrounded by the signs of its death throes.
On the ground, there were also large patches of scorched black, as if a fiery storm had swept through the area.
Amidst the mess, a figure sat upright. Though somewhat tired, his expression dim, he wore a slight smile.
This scene left Yan Zhao and Su Xuan’er dumbfounded, their eyes nearly popping out.
“Li Yi, did you… do all this?” After a pause that felt like a moment, Yan Zhao finally came to his senses and stammered, “You… you alone?”
“I told you, I’m very strong.” Li Yi gave a heh-heh laugh, revealing his snow-white teeth.
Su Xuan’er didn’t speak. Only, within her beautiful, violet-blue eyes, a flowing light flickered.
“This person who got in through connections, how…”
In Su Xuan’er’s eyes, this young man before her had multiple images. It was just that his shortcomings were too many, his strong points few and far between.
His strengths lay in the vision and inspiration regarding Dao Transformation Armament. This kind of cultivation absolutely could not be gained from theoretical accumulation. For example, Yan He was the best counterexample.
As for shortcomings, they were as numerous as the hairs on an ox: mediocre bloodline, subpar cultivation, clumsy mana control…
But the scene before her overturned many of her previous judgments.
Could this person have a thousand faces?
“You weren’t lying?” Truly feeling stirred and somewhat unable to believe it, Su Xuan’er’s purple eyes flashed slightly as she suddenly spoke up to ask.
“In twenty days, won’t you know?” Li Yi smiled slightly, giving an answer of sorts. For someone he wasn’t concerned about, why explain?
Twenty days later was the Martial Display!
“Fine, in twenty days, I’ll confirm it myself!”
Su Xuan’er spoke coldly, her face expressionless. Only, for some reason, she felt a faint sense of anticipation.
…
At this time, within the Star Radiance Tower, waves were stirring.
A fat figure appeared outside Meditation Chamber Ninety-Five.
“These cracks… clearly are the result of elemental forces surging too violently, causing the energy circuits to be unable to bear it, leading to fissures!”
The fat man pressed his face close to the wall, searching bit by bit. He seemed to have found something, his expression excited.
“Hey, and here too, it actually condensed Elemental Liquid? That’s a phenomenon that only appears at Energy Nodes!”
“No mistake about it, the culprit is him!”
“This person’s name is Li Yi?”
“Wonder if he’ll be sensible?” The fat man patted his head, encouraging himself. “Don’t worry, carrot and stick, who would refuse?”
