Chapter 84: Slaying the Whale with a Wave
Chapter 84: Slaying the Whale with a Wave
On the fourth day at sea, the icy wind from the Odin Ice Plain unusually paused. The dark clouds in the eastern sky slowly cleared, and surprisingly, a red sun rose from below the horizon. Its crimson light bathed the sea and sky, even coating the massive icebergs in a layer of scarlet. The red icebergs drifted on the ocean waves, swaying like clots of congealed blood.
Lin Qi stood at the ship’s bow, holding a large sea rod baited with the entrails of a black-striped bream, fishing for sea turtles. This stretch of sea was not far from the territory of the Frenzied Unicorn Whale. It was known for a type of green leatherback sea turtle—large in size, delicious in flesh—a delicacy sought after by nobles on the Continent, and also the favorite food of the Frenzied Unicorn Whale.
These sea turtles had astonishing reproductive abilities and grew exceptionally fast. It was once said that, were it not for the Frenzied Unicorn Whales hunting them relentlessly, they would have spread to every ocean in the world.
“A single large green leatherback like this would be worth at least three hundred Gold Coins on the Continent!” Lin Qi held the sea rod, gazed at the red sun in the east, and sighed while shaking his head. “Damn it, the sun actually rose. That’s not a good sign. There’ll be a snowstorm in the coming days.”
Long Cheng, draped in a Blue Fox Fur Coat and still wearing an expression of arrogance and pride, sat atop the mermaid figurehead at the bow. He looked at Lin Qi with confusion. “Isn’t sunshine a good thing? What does it have to do with a snowstorm? Look, the sky is clear, the blue heavens are like they’ve been washed clean. Such fine weather!”
Shaking his head and swaying, Long Cheng heaved a long sigh. “On such a beautiful day, in such a wild and magnificent scene, if only I had three or five beauties accompanying me naked, how joyful that would be!”
This guy was a hopeless pervert. Lin Qi cursed Long Cheng inwardly, then snorted irritably. “Respected Mr. Long Cheng, this is the North Sea. In winter, there shouldn’t be any sunlight here. If it keeps being windy and snowy, we can get through the winter safely. But if the sun comes out, then in the next few days, there will definitely be a snowstorm—a massive hurricane that will bring disaster to the Continent!”
Long Cheng looked at Lin Qi in surprise, spread his hands, and laughed in astonishment. “Is that so? Really? This damned weather!”
Lin Qi shook the sea rod and looked at Long Cheng with bewilderment. “It’s strange. You don’t seem to know anything about the sea, so how did you manage to row a small boat into the North Sea? Where did you come from?”
Long Cheng twisted his lips, sneered coldly several times, and finally gritted his teeth. “Nothing much, just a bet with someone. I bet that I could cross the North Sea in winter using a small boat, reach the Western Continent, and then retrieve a few things to bring back!”
A bet? Crossing the North Sea in winter with a shabby little boat? Long Cheng must have had a lot of confidence in himself. Lin Qi smacked his lips, feeling quite horrified. “So, where did you set off from? I know there are several famous ports in the East—Quan City, Su City, Hang City, Hai City, Bear City. They are all several times larger than our Dun Er Ke!”
Long Cheng fell silent for a moment, then said somewhat resentfully, “I set off from Bear City. It’s our northernmost port. I sailed four thousand li north into the North Sea, then another thousand li to land on the Odin Ice Plain. I carried my small boat across the Odin Ice Plain, fighting my way through, and entered the sea again at a place called Viking Great Axe Gorge on the Odin Ice Plain.”
“Viking Great Axe Gorge?” Lin Qi gasped in shock. “That’s a dangerous place. Well, to be exact, it’s a gathering spot for a bunch of thugs and ruffians!”
Long Cheng gave a cruel, tight-lipped smile. He glanced sideways at Lin Qi, raised his head, and sneered. “Yes, a group of blind fools tried to rob me of my small boat, so I ransacked Viking Great Axe Gorge. Of course, I wasn’t after wealth—I only wanted their lives.”
Lin Qi’s mouth fell open. What an incredibly fierce person! Viking Great Axe Gorge was famously known even in the Western Underworld as a dangerous lair. Thousands of Alien Race ruffians and their families lived there year-round, making it a vital supply point on the Underworld’s secret routes and an important den for North Sea pirates and smugglers.
To ransack the entire Viking Great Axe Gorge single-handedly? Lin Qi stammered, dumbfounded, “How… how many people did you kill?”
Twisting his lips, Long Cheng counted on his fingers for a moment and slowly said, “I killed about half, burned down another small half, and the remaining small half fled. Roughly that many. Those who escaped were the strong ones; the old, weak, women, and children were probably all burned to death.”
He sighed lightly and said with a tone of resignation, “Originally, besides taking lives, I also planned to take advantage of some women. Unfortunately, the people there weren’t exactly beauties. Even the women were covered in hair all over their bodies. I really couldn’t muster any interest.”
Shrugging his shoulders, Long Cheng sighed deeply. “Killing, burning, raping, pillaging—these things should be done in one go. But I only managed the killing and burning. Before I could do the other two, I was surrounded by a bunch of bastards calling themselves Odin Holy Guards. After a fierce fight, I killed more than ten of them and escaped. Then, out on the sea, I even ran into a Three-Headed Sea Dragon. What terrible luck!”
Lin Qi shut his mouth. This was a complete madman. He couldn’t be bothered to talk to such a pure lunatic. Odin Holy Guards—those religious fanatics who had terrified the Continent’s elite Legions during the Hundred-Year Land-Island War—and he killed more than ten of them? And after that, he still managed to fight the Three-Headed Sea Dragon, the overlord of the North Sea magical beasts, and wasn’t killed?
Then he heard Long Cheng sigh softly. “The pity was, that Three-Headed Sea Dragon truly had extraordinary power. I was already lightly injured from fighting those Odin Holy Guards, so I couldn’t overcome it in battle. I expended a great deal of Primordial Qi and lost all my food and water. With no other choice, I sealed myself inside an iceberg, using the Hibernation Great Technique to heal and preserve my life. After all, judging by the wind direction, the iceberg was drifting toward the Continent!”
Long Cheng’s words were just too unbelievable. Lin Qi felt exasperated. “Weren’t you afraid of being trapped and dying inside the iceberg?”
Long Cheng gave a strange laugh and patted Lin Qi’s shoulder firmly. “That was gambling with my life! It was a bet, wasn’t it? And in the end, I met you all—so I didn’t lose the bet, did I?”
Before the words faded, several dozen meters ahead in the sea, a large green leatherback over two meters long suddenly leaped out of the water. Behind it, a golden horn about four meters long tore through the sea as a massive, gold-glowing Frenzied Unicorn Whale surged from the waves. It opened its fang-filled mouth and snapped down at the sea turtle.
Lin Qi’s voice abruptly changed. “Frenzied Unicorn Whale! Prepare the Whaling Harpoon!”
Then came Long Cheng’s wild laugh. In a flash, his figure blurred into dozens of afterimages as he arrived above the giant whale dozens of meters away.
His right fist enveloped in a dense Purple Qi, Long Cheng let out a long cry and, with a seemingly casual motion, pressed his palm onto the whale’s enormous head.
A piercing howl echoed as the giant whale shuddered and crashed heavily back into the sea.
The massive whale lay still on the sea’s surface—it had been killed with a single palm strike from Long Cheng.
