Chapter 54: The Twin Sisters

Strong winds whipped the waves, crashing them against the breakwater of Dornick Port.

In the distance, a faintly visible iceberg a hundred meters tall was pushed by the fierce wind, moving with the ocean waves and smashing toward the port’s breakwater. However, silhouettes flickered on the breakwater, and two large fireballs shot out with a roar. They exploded, causing the iceberg to tremble violently amidst the waves. Large chunks of ice were blasted into the air, and after falling into the water, they were no longer a threat.

Two stray dogs with very long fur scurried awkwardly along the base of the wall by the roadside. Their greenish eyes searched the night for something to eat.

A row of completely black stray cats sat neatly on the dock, tilting their heads as they watched a fishing boat that still had its lights on. Not long after, a burly fisherman stepped out of the fishing boat, grumbling and cursing, and roughly dumped a large basin of fish entrails onto the dock.

The stray cats silently rushed over and started eating the fish entrails hungrily. The fisherman glanced at the stray cats, shook his head firmly, and then carried the wooden basin back into the cabin.

Four jet-black horses, like nocturnal elves, pulled a Four-Wheel Carriage silently along the street beside the dock. Beneath the fur of these horses were strange, iron-blue patterns. They were mixed-blood descendants of the magical beast ‘Qingyun Beast’ and the Pureblood Horse, far surpassing pureblood horses in both strength and speed.

These mixed-blood descendants of magical beasts were extremely valuable. Unless one was a high-ranking official or noble, not only would they have no chance to harness these horses known as ‘Black Steeds,’ but they wouldn’t even find a way to purchase such mixed-blood horses.

The driver was a burly man wearing a black Bearskin Coat. His face, with sharp, chiseled features, showed no expression. His cold, reptilian eyes emitted a chilling light that made people afraid to approach. The joints of his hands were thick and unusually prominent, with faint black veins bulging under his bluish skin. His palms and knuckles were covered in thick calluses, clearly indicating that his hands possessed some very special combat skills.

Inside the carriage, two Young Girls in crimson dresses sat side by side on a soft couch. Both held thick scripture volumes and were silently reciting the ‘Punishment Laws’ of the God of Punishment. They read at exactly the same pace and turned the pages simultaneously. Though there were two of them, their movements were perfectly synchronized, as if they were one.

They were precisely the twin sisters, Ya and Ling, whom Elham had instructed to test Lin Qi’s background.

Their lips moved slightly as they silently recited the Punishment Laws. A faint flame flickered between their eyebrows, and the spacious carriage was filled with a suffocating, scorching pressure. However, this pressure—enough to crush an ordinary person to pieces—was precisely contained within the carriage, not leaking out in the slightest.

Gradually, a faint glow of fire enveloped both of them. The flames around their bodies intertwined and merged, and as they continued to blend, the crimson flames took on a hint of sacred, brilliant platinum white. Just as their aura was about to reach its peak, the carriage suddenly stopped. The driver muttered in a low voice, “Ladies, the Golden Rose is at the end of this alley.”

The flames around Ya and Ling retracted into their bodies simultaneously. In perfect unison, they closed their scripture volumes and, with a light swipe of their fingers, the two heavy books vanished without a trace. They glanced at each other, then opened the carriage door and stepped out with the dignified pace befitting young ladies from a great noble family.

Following close behind their carriage, another carriage emitted a flurry of sparkling jewels and pearls as a young man, as plump as a ball of meat, squeezed out with difficulty. This young man, who only reached Ya and Ling’s shoulders but weighed several times more than both of them combined, panted heavily as he approached the two girls. He bowed with extreme respect and flattery, saying, “Honorable Miss Aya and Miss Aling, this is the most interesting place in Dun Er Ke—the Golden Rose.”

Taking a deep breath and savoring the faint, delicate scent of the girls with some dirty thoughts, the young man struggled to bend further. “Please believe me, dear ladies. I, Lafontaine, am the most famously honest broker in all of Dun Er Ke. At the Golden Rose, you can find all sorts of interesting things.”

Ya and Ling glanced coldly at Lafontaine, who was as fat as a pig, and gave a slight nod.

Lafontaine bowed repeatedly with great eagerness, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and, panting with every few steps, led Ya and Ling into the alley.

With the guidance of Lafontaine, known for his extensive connections among Dun Er Ke’s brokers, Ya and Ling easily entered the Golden Rose Lounge. Lafontaine asked the gatekeeper about Jin and the other young masters and ladies’ location, then familiarly led the two girls to the Beast-Fighting Arena.

Lin Qi was shouting and demanding that Jin lend him hundreds of thousands of Gold Coins. Adding to his own one hundred thousand Gold Coins, he would have enough capital to gamble heavily with these young masters.

However, Jin’s expression was hesitant. Lin Qi’s reputation among Dun Er Ke’s playboy circles was terrible; he was known for doing business with no capital. Although he had unprecedentedly produced one hundred thousand Gold Coins as principal this time, who knew if Jin lent him the money? If Lin Qi won, it would be fine, but if he lost?

Jin had no doubt that Blackbeard Old Man could easily cover the loan. The problem was Lin Qi—would this scoundrel honor the debt?

“Hey, Jin, we’re old friends!” Lin Qi said with a Cigar in his mouth, his hands in his pockets, acting carelessly. “We’re old friends. Even though I beat you up three to five times in the past because of misunderstandings, we’re still friends, right! Can’t you be generous and lend me a mere few hundred thousand Gold Coins? I’ll even pay you three extra points of interest. I’m sure to win—don’t you believe me?”

Jin hesitated and looked at the Green-patterned Golden-eyed Python and the Ice-armored Polar Bear in the cage. The Green-patterned Golden-eyed Python was a cold-blooded reptile, while the Ice-armored Polar Bear could control the power of ice and snow, making it the python’s natural enemy. It was hard to say which magical beast would win if they fought.

He wouldn’t hesitate to lend money to the other young masters and ladies present, but when it came to Lin Qi, he was truly uneasy.

Just then, Lafontaine brought Ya and Ling into the Beast-Fighting Arena. Lafontaine called out cheerfully, “Jin, I’ve brought you two distinguished guests—Miss Aya and Miss Aling. They are core members of a top noble family from the Vias Commercial Federation, just passing through Dun Er Ke!”

Ya and Ling were like two night-blooming cereus flowers suddenly opening, drawing the gazes of all the males present.

Angel, Dun Er Ke’s famous beauty, frowned in annoyance. Ya and Ling were too beautiful—it was a kind of natural, exquisite beauty. Compared to them, Angel felt like an artificial glass bead next to a natural diamond, completely on a different level.

Jin smiled joyfully and was about to deliver a welcome speech for these two noble guests from a prestigious family when Ya and Ling simultaneously asked, “What are you all doing? It looks quite interesting!”

Their gazes both fell upon the pile of stacked bets.
