Chapter 178: Killing to Vent Anger
Chapter 178: Killing to Vent Anger
The gambling match ended in a jaw-dropping way.
In ten rounds of cards, each taking less than ten breaths, Marrs lost ten million Gold Coins completely. According to the bet between Marrs and Lartus, the Silver Crescent Trading Company now belonged to Tixiang. At the same time, all the young Nobles on Marrs’s side were officially declared bankrupt. For at least three to five years, they would have to live a simple and hard life, remembering past bitterness.
Marrs sat on the sofa with a forced smile on his face. He had not yet recovered from this heavy blow.
Beya had sworn to him that this man in black was a famous gambling expert on the Western Continent. In the Vias Commercial Federation, he was the star of eighteen large-chain casinos and had not failed once in twenty years. It was because of this gambling expert that Marrs had risked everything to make this bet with Lartus.
But before Marrs could even come out of his dream of making huge profits, the gambling match was over. Ten million Gold Coins became Lartus’s prize. Marrs’s hard-earned savings over the years were swept away by Lartus.
“Ha, we lost?” Marrs clearly could not accept this devastating change for a while. He started to laugh in a strange way.
Beya was sweating heavily, his face pale as he stared at the man in black sitting at the card table. Beya’s mind went blank; he had no idea what had happened. The man in black was hired by him at a great cost. Although Luo Jia seemed to be in charge of this gambling match, Beya had actually handled many things personally.
But now, it was all over. They lost, lost completely and utterly. Beya had even lost the funds his father gave him to upgrade the family’s guard equipment after spring—a huge sum enough to equip three hundred Heavy Armor Knights!
Even though Beya was strong and healthy, his sturdy body began to shake like a leaf in the wind. A strange gurgling sound came from his throat. Suddenly, his face turned white, he spat out a mouthful of blood, and his body fell heavily to the ground.
Lin Qi had already rushed onto the pile of thick bets without any care. He grabbed the three referees of the gambling match and screamed desperately, “My Gold Notes, my money! The money I won! Damn it, my three hundred thousand principal, and the three hundred thousand Gold Notes Your Highness Marrs gave me! Find them quickly, I only want my winnings!”
Getting three hundred thousand Gold Coins out of thin air, Lin Qi was so happy that all his fat trembled. He had struck it rich! Three hundred thousand Gold Coins—that was enough to make a pure gold bathtub, right? Not to mention Tixiang’s promise that all the money won on the gambling table would belong to Lin Qi.
That was ten million Gold Coins! A full ten million Gold Coins! Lin Qi was not afraid that Tixiang would go back on his word; this money was his now.
After spending a few days with Lin Qi, Tixiang had already seen his money-loving, reckless nature. He smiled gently, strode to the card table, and in front of so many young Nobles, picked out Gold Notes worth sixteen million Gold Coins from the huge pile of bets and stuffed them into Lin Qi’s arms.
“Master, this is what we agreed on. As long as we won this gambling match, all the Gold Coins won would be yours.”
Tixiang smiled happily. He waved his hand behind him and ordered in a deep voice, “Escort the masters away. Remember, escort the two masters out of the Empire at the fastest speed and send them back to their hometown.”
Lin Qi’s eyes flickered. He understood the meaning in Tixiang’s words. He waved to Long Cheng, and the two followed a group of guards silently through a side door. They went down a hidden staircase to the basement, where Lin Qi and Long Cheng returned to their original appearances.
Over ten carriages rushed out of the small building, quickly splitting into three convoys and disappearing into the night.
Tixiang’s move was very clever; Lin Qi had no more worries. Even if Marrs wanted to find someone to vent his anger afterward, he could only search everywhere for the gambling experts that Lin Qi and Long Cheng had pretended to be. It would not involve Lin Qi at all.
In the hall on the third floor, the smiling Marrs finally woke up from the heavy blow.
Trembling, he stood up. Looking at Beya, who had spat blood and fallen to the ground, and then at the young Nobles behind him whose faces were ashen as if they had lost their parents, Marrs’s face grew darker and darker. A bloody taste churned in his throat, and he almost spat out a mouthful of blood.
Staring at the triumphant Lartus for a long time, Marrs shakily pointed a finger at him.
“Lartus, where did you find those two bastards? I will kill them, I must kill them!”
Lartus could not be bothered to pay attention to Marrs. He just smiled and, under the supervision of the referees, divided the spoils with the young Nobles on his side. This time, everyone had gained a lot; their wealth had doubled. This was a great cause for celebration.
Marrs roared in anger, “Lartus!”
Only then did Lartus look at Marrs. His voice was very soft and pleasant, “Cousin Marrs, before the gambling match, we swore before the God of Justice. You lost, I won. Do you still want to break your oath and take back the bets?”
With a gentle smile, Lartus rolled up a thick stack of contracts and stuffed them into a pouch made of Magical Beast Hide.
“Cousin Marrs, we are going to hold a celebration party. Do you want to join us?” Smiling warmly, Lartus pointed at the man in black who was still sitting motionless in his seat. “If it’s you, Cousin Marrs, and all of you who want to join the celebration party, all the drinks tonight will be free.”
Blood seeped from the corner of Marrs’s mouth. He trembled as he looked at Lartus, wishing he could cut him down with a sword.
But Lartus was, after all, his cousin and a member of the Royal Family. No matter how violent Marrs was, he did not dare to actually hurt Lartus. Furious and heartbroken, Marrs let out an angry roar. His body suddenly spun, and a sword light flashed like lightning. The man in black, still sitting on the stool, screamed miserably and was cut in half at the waist.
Laughing wildly, Marrs shouted, “You celebrate! Let’s go… Tixiang, I will find those two people you sent away!”
Staring fiercely at the smiling Tixiang, Marrs laughed madly, “No matter where you sent them, I will find them. Hahaha, pray to the Gods, pray that they do not fall into my hands.”
After cursing loudly a few times, Marrs grabbed the unconscious Beya and, followed by a group of pale-faced young Nobles, strode out of this three-story building that had shamed him and caused him heavy losses.
