Chapter 71: Ogre (2)
Chapter 71: Ogre (2)
Many monsters roamed the Wilderness. Even in the Southern Kingdoms, Goblins and Kobolds appeared in places far from towns.
Goblins and Kobolds bred very quickly. A pair of Goblins could give birth to about ten or twenty Goblins in a year. Kobolds were the same. It took at least twenty years for a human Warrior to be born, grow up, and train into a proper Warrior.
Of course, once their training was done, a team of elite human Soldiers could easily defeat several times, even ten times, their number of Goblins or Kobolds.
Humans were at even more of a disadvantage against Ogres. Ogres ate meat from birth and grew much faster than humans. If not for the lack of food, the number of Ogres could easily multiply several times. It was only because there were so few Ogres that humans were finally able to drive them into the Wilderness.
Su Lun went around the flagpole and continued toward the Ogre camp. Since these Ogres had captured many Gnolls as slaves, it showed they planned to set up a tribal gathering place there.
Once they entered the area controlled by Ogres, Su Lun and his group became much more cautious. Ogres were not weaklings like Goblins, Kobolds, or Gnolls. A single adult Ogre Warrior could easily take down a small team of human Soldiers. By human standards, that was Knight Rank.
Adult Ogres stood over three meters tall, wore armor, and used giant Spiked Clubs. Although these weapons looked crude, they were incredibly powerful when swung. Even Knight Plate Armor could be dented by them. Getting hit by one could easily break bones, and that was one of the lighter outcomes. As for something like an Ogre Warrior, their strength was even greater. He had no idea how big this Ogre Tribe might be.
No one owned the land in the Wilderness, but claiming it was not easy. Even Karlent City had taken hundreds of years to expand from a territory of a few dozen kilometers to the current Northern Provinces. Of course, that was because the Florence Kingdom was at its peak back then, and the entire country worked together to achieve it.
It had been over a hundred years since the Northern Provinces last expanded outward. Even so, monster attacks in the wilds of the Northern Provinces were several times more frequent than in the Southern Provinces. The forests, mountains, and lakes within the Territory were full of monsters that grew like weeds. Clearing them out once might make the area seem clean, but after a few months, they would appear again.
As they moved forward, they found more and more traces left by Ogres. Su Lun and the others slowed down. They could run into Ogres at any moment. Soon, Su Lun spotted two Ogres walking in their direction, carrying Spiked Clubs and wearing crude armor.
The two Ogres were about three point two meters tall, with earth-yellow skin. They wore tattered fur clothing and heavy armor on their shoulders, chests, and wrists. The armor was likely made by themselves, and due to their limited skill, it was cast very thick.
The armor had a one-foot-long iron spike on it. The Spiked Clubs in their hands weighed at least a hundred pounds. The surface of the clubs was dark red, and some of the spikes even had bits of flesh stuck to them. Ogres were not very smart; an adult Ogre had intelligence similar to a wolf. But it would be a big mistake to think of them as idiots.
These seemingly clumsy creatures had strong fighting instincts. Even experienced Warriors had to be very careful around them. Seeing the two Ogres approaching, Su Lun made a hand signal, and the group hid in the grass nearby.
Su Lun took a long spear from his Storage Space and slowly adjusted his stance. The other Barbarian Warriors also held their breath, their eyes fixed on the approaching Ogres.
The two Ogres did not notice anything unusual around them and soon reached the spot where Su Lun and his group were hiding. Su Lun, who had been waiting for this moment, moved swiftly. His spear shot out instantly.
The sharp spear stabbed straight into the back of one Ogre’s heart. The ugly-looking armor on the Ogre’s body offered no protection at all. The spear slipped right through a gap in the armor.
A single strike was fatal!
The spear pierced through the heart and came out the front of the body. The over four hundred pound Ogre was skewered like a candied hawthorn. Dark red blood gushed from the wound. Su Lun swung his spear sideways, and the heavy Ogre’s body was flung like a giant sandbag at the other Ogre, who was brandishing its Spiked Club and charging forward.
“Boom!”
The Ogre’s corpse sent the other Ogre flying backward. The massive body tumbled several meters on the ground. Before it could recover, a giant War Axe came down on its head.
Stinking blood splattered everywhere as the Ogre’s ugly head spun through the air and landed at Su Lun’s feet. Su Lun stepped on the Ogre’s head and shook his spear, flicking off the blood.
He ordered the Barbarian Warriors to deal with the two Ogre corpses, and the group continued deeper into the Wilderness. Su Lun planned to find the Ogre camp and destroy it. He did not want a ticking time bomb like this next to his Territory. If he did not take care of these Ogres, he would not be able to sleep soundly.
After handling the Ogre corpses, Su Lun and his group moved on. This time, they did not take the paths cleared by the Ogres but went around in a circle.
They had not gone far when movement sounded up ahead.
“Gnolls!”
A Barbarian Warrior said in a low voice.
Pushing aside the wild grass, Su Lun quickly spotted the group of Gnolls. It was a small Gnoll group, with only about ten members. They had tamed three hyenas and had over a dozen Goblin and Kobold slaves. The Gnolls looked rather disheveled. There were no young Gnolls in the group; all were adults.
Clearly, they had been through a fight and were the survivors. They were likely the losing side, and these Gnolls had managed to escape.
Su Lun was not about to pass up such easy experience. He signaled to the Barbarians, who quietly moved forward.
“Charge!”
The Barbarian Warriors emerged from the grass and covered over ten meters in an instant. Their two-handed War Axes swung in wide arcs, sweeping through the Gnolls’ waists.
The sharp War Axes cut through muscle, shattered spines, and split the Gnolls in two.
The ten Barbarians’ surprise attack gave the Gnolls no chance to fight back. In the blink of an eye, the Barbarian Warriors had slaughtered them. The remaining Goblins and Kobolds were terrified out of their wits and scattered, trying to run away.
“Whoosh!”
Hand Axes flew through the air. Before the Goblins and Kobolds could take more than a few steps, the sharp Hand Axes struck them in the back or head. The sharp blades sank almost entirely into their bodies.
The skirmish was over in an instant.
