Chapter 115: Dragon Slaying (3)

“Fireball Spell!”

A fiery basketball-sized orange fireball suddenly appeared. It flew directly toward the injured Frost Wyvern.

The Frost Wyvern, still recovering from paralysis, couldn’t dodge in time. It was struck head-on by the fireball.

“KABOOM!”

As Lesser Dragons of frost, they had little resistance to fiery magic. Though the Fireball Spell was a third-level Evocation spell, its power ranked among the strongest in low-tier magic. Many fourth-level spells couldn’t match its damage output. Otherwise, the Quintuple Sacred Fire Cult wouldn’t have gained such infamy back in the day.

The orange fireball exploded upon hitting the Frost Wyvern. Scorching flames dealt severe damage instantly. The Frost Wyvern, barely managing flight before, was knocked from the sky by the Fireball Spell.

Its massive body plummeted. THUD! It crashed onto the icy rocks. Stones and snow flew; blood started seeping slowly beneath it. The Frost Wyvern let out mournful cries. Its struggles grew weaker and weaker. Clearly, it wouldn’t live much longer.

Su Lun couldn’t catch his breath. The other two Frost Wyverns attacked again. Their rage burned fiercer at their companion’s fate. They were also much more wary of Su Lun’s Throwing Spears after the earlier battle.

The Frost Wyverns’ greatest advantage wasn’t their Dragon Breath or raw strength, but their flight. That allowed them to pick when to attack and retreat. The best way to kill them was taking away their ability to fly first.

The two Frost Wyverns took turns attacking Su Lun. Whenever Su Lun prepared to throw a spear at one, the other would immediately swoop in. If Su Lun pressed on with his throw, he risked severe injury from the other Wyvern’s claws or wings.

Their teamwork was unnervingly seamless, giving Su Lun a headache. He considered having Heatherway ambush them, but the Wyverns stayed hyper-alert. Without the element of surprise, Fireball Spell flew too slowly; flying Frost Wyverns could easily dodge it. Heatherway had already tried once moments ago.

There was a solution, though. Shards of ice and rock struck Su Lun’s face, stinging him slightly. He dodged another sweeping blow from a Dragon Wing, his body weaving. Spells like Fire Arrow or Scorching Ray could hit, but as first-level spells, they weren’t very effective.

“Haste!”

“Cat’s Grace!”

“Bear’s Endurance!”

“Resist Elements!”

Bursts of light sank into Su Lun’s body one after another. His already agile form sharpened further. Even on this slippery, treacherous cliff face, he moved as if on flat ground.

The two Frost Wyverns were cunning. They worked together, solely focused on wearing Su Lun down. On this steep, icy surface, intense combat drained stamina fast. Once Su Lun faltered, far too tired to keep up, they would both pounce and tear him apart.

He pulled an iron chain from his Storage Space. It had metal balls attached to both ends. Su Lun had crafted this specifically to disrupt a Frost Wyvern’s balance. Compared to the lethality of a Throwing Spear, this flail seemed nearly useless. But it excelled at ruining a flying Wyvern’s stability. And unlike a spear, the flail had greater range and was harder to dodge.

Soon, the two Frost Wyverns dived again. Su Lun rolled away, putting some distance between them. Immediately, he swung the chain out with force. Then he leaped again, narrowly avoiding the attack from the other diving Wyvern.

Life and death hung in an instant!

A Frost Wyvern barreled straight for Su Lun, leaving him almost no room to dodge. Teeth gritted against the ache in his muscles, Su Lun sucked in a sharp breath. He threw himself backward along the ground in a desperate roll. Hard, cold rocks slammed into him, sending jabs of pain.

Seeing the chain flying toward it, the Wyvern snapped its wings, trying to bank away. But this time, the creature miscalculated. Su Lun held the other end of the chain. A sharp flick from his wrist altered the flail’s path, sending the iron links chasing the Wyvern once more.

He let go of the chain. The weighted chain struck the Frost Wyvern’s long, narrow neck. Its momentum carried it, wrapping around several times. The other end tangled messily around the Wyvern’s right wing and its clawed limb on that side.

Only one full loop, but it spelled major trouble for the Frost Wyvern. As it flapped its wings, the heavy iron balls swung wildly and unpredictably. Its flight became severely disrupted. The creature that once soared with ease now floundered like a fledgling bird just learning to fly, wobbling erratically.

Once the chain ensnared the Wyvern, Su Lun stopped paying it any mind. The other Wyvern’s attack was imminent. A Refined Steel long spear materialized in his grasp. He swung it sideways, meeting the Wyvern’s outstretched claws with a clash. Using the impact as leverage, he sprang away in a series of rolls, barely escaping the sweeping Dragon Wing.

“Fireball Spell!”

While Su Lun battled the first Wyvern, Heatherway instantly targeted the one crippled by the chain.

Horrified, the entangled Frost Wyvern watched the fireball streak toward its bound wing. An agonized shriek ripped from its throat as the fireball struck. The Frost Wyvern plummeted from mid-air. It slammed onto the frostbitten rocks with a sickening crunch. Its survival was unknown.

The Frost Wyvern fighting Su Lun saw its last companion fall. It shot a desperate Frost Breath blast straight at Su Lun, then frantically beat its wings to flee.

Much too late. Su Lun, bolstered by Bear’s Endurance and Resist Elements, met the bone-chilling Frost Breath head-on. Its power was considerably softened now. He could withstand it.

“Thunder Lightning Spear!”

Fierce Lightning Glow roared through him. Above, thunder crackled, dancing bolts converging onto the long spear in his right hand. The three-meter spear bristled instantly, glowing fiercely, arcs of berserk Lightning Glow jumping across its surface. Su Lun himself struggled to endure the raging current, his hand scorched. He clenched his teeth, focused on the panicked Frost Wyvern scrambling away. With all his strength, he hurled the spear.

“Lightning Spear throw!”

Its sheer force tore through the air. Like a streak of lightning, the spear shot forward. It plunged deep into the fleeing Frost Wyvern’s back. Almost the full three meters buried within its body. Dazzling Lightning Glow exploded outwards. The Frost Wyvern screamed in utter despair. Then, like a bird with broken wings, it plummeted from the sky.
