Chapter 86: The Blue Robe Isn’t Immortal, But It Has Immortal Charm
In the courtyard, there stood a small stove. Inside the stove, it looked like tea was boiling, and a faint aroma of tea and lotus seeds spread through the yard.
After Chen Changsheng sat down, Master Tang Shan went back into the house, washed two teacups, came out to the yard, poured some tea from the pot that was boiling, and handed it to Chen Changsheng and Tang Mingjing.
Chen Changsheng took it. In the cup, the tea was a light red color and had a faint, fresh lotus scent.
Chen Changsheng’s eyes brightened and he asked, “What kind of tea is this?”
Tang Shan answered, “Lotus seed tea. It helps boost energy and feeds the body. Wait for it to cool a bit first; it’s still a little too hot now.”
Tang Mingjing seemed not to wait any longer and laughed, saying, “In the past, my favorite drink was the lotus seed tea you brewed, Grandpa. This time, I came just at the right moment.”
Tang Shan smiled and said, “You little guy, always thinking about this tea; why not think about me, Grandpa?”
“How could that be? Mingjing thinks of Grandpa the most.”
“That’s more like it.”
Chen Changsheng watched the grandfather and grandson pair laughing and joking, and he couldn’t help but feel a bit comforted inside.
This small courtyard was very quiet. Pushing open the door led straight to the Lotus Pond. After summer started, a fresh scent filled the air, and the view was beautiful everywhere.
Master Tang Shan really was a tasteful person.
Tang Mingjing chatted with Grandpa for a few words, then got to the main point. He handed the Jade Pendant to Grandpa.
Tang Shan took it, held it in his hand, and looked it over.
“Why does it feel like this Jade Pendant has become a bit different?” Tang Shan mumbled to himself.
But he couldn’t say exactly how it was different.
Mr. Chen said, “The Magical Power saved inside has already been used up.”
“Magical Power?” Tang Shan paused slightly inside.
He smiled, weighed the Jade Pendant, and said, “It looks like what the ancestors said was true. This Jade Pendant really was given by an Immortal. When I first heard your great-grandfather talk about it, I thought it was a joke.”
“The Immortal really granted this treasure?” Tang Mingjing sounded shocked.
Tang Shan didn’t reply, but he looked at Chen Changsheng instead.
He opened his mouth and asked, “Mr. Chen, are you a Cultivation person?”
Chen Changsheng said, “I only happened to learn some Daoist Arts by chance. Actually, I’m still just a Mortal.”
After hearing this, Tang Shan stared at Chen Changsheng for a long while.
He pulled back his gaze and said, “Mr. Chen, are you sure?”
Chen Changsheng nodded; it wasn’t that he was being humble, he truly had no Magical Power. He only depended on plucking out hair strands. Although his Divine Sense was good, his Mortal Body hadn’t left behind Mortal limits.
Chen Changsheng then asked, “The Lotus Pond carved on this Jade Pendant matched the scene I saw before. Maybe there’s a connection, so I dared to come visit you. I wanted to look for some clues.”
Tang Shan nodded a little.
He looked at the Jade Pendant in his hand, paused a moment, then said, “Actually, when I saw you for the first time, I felt you were the person the ancestors were talking about.”
Chen Changsheng heard this and was startled. He asked, “What do you mean by that?”
“The Blue Robe isn’t an Immortal, but it has Immortal Charm. When fate meets it, it appears; when magic uses it, it solves.” Tang Shan said these words and added, “This is what the ancestors left behind.”
“Crackle.” The firewood in the stove made a crackling sound.
Suddenly, the yard became quiet.
Tang Mingjing looked over at Mr. Chen. Seeing that Blue Robe, he suddenly understood.
“Isn’t this just talking about Mr. Chen?” Tang Mingjing said.
“This Jade Pendant is also for the person in the words.” Tang Shan handed the Jade Pendant to Chen Changsheng.
Chen Changsheng took the Jade Pendant and held it in his hand, looking it over again.
He saw nothing unusual about it.
Chen Changsheng said, “Maybe I’m not the person in those words?”
He asked, “Besides this, did the ancestors leave any other things?”
Tang Shan explained, “The ancestors once said that a forebear once got advice from an Immortal. It kept the incense burning, making the family big and strong. So it was handed down over many years. The Celestial Immortal’s order fell on Tang Manor, to pass down this Jade Pendant to later times. After thousands of years, fate would bring someone to take it.”
“About that Celestial Immortal, is there any more to know?” Chen Changsheng asked.
Tang Shan looked at the gentleman and said, “It only says it was an Immortal lady. That’s all.”
Chen Changsheng paused inside.
An Immortal lady? That meant the person who left this Jade Pendant back then was a woman.
At first, Chen Changsheng thought it might be him who put it here years ago. Now, it seemed different from what he thought.
“Even if it really was left for me, what does this Jade Pendant mean?”
Chen Changsheng slightly frowned. He saw nothing special about the Jade Pendant. Even using his Dharma Eye, he found nothing strange.
Tang Shan shook his head and said, “I don’t really get it either. But if this Jade Pendant is really left for you, Mr. Chen, you should know how to uncover its secret.”
Chen Changsheng shook his head and said, “For now, I can’t see what’s hidden in this Jade Pendant.”
Tang Shan heard this and said, “Why not try to think harder?”
“I’ll give it a shot.”
Chen Changsheng thought for a bit.
He reached out, channeled the Magical Power from his sword into the Jade Pendant, and softly said a few magic words.
“Buzz.” The Jade Pendant glowed just a bit of blue light.
But after a little while, nothing else happened.
Tang Mingjing saw the blue light on the Jade Pendant and was shocked inside.
He opened his mouth, but no words came out.
Tang Shan’s eyes also flashed surprise. He looked at Tang Mingjing, seeming to ask what kind of person this gentleman was.
Chen Changsheng raised his head and sighed faintly, saying, “It looks like I can’t unlock this Jade Pendant.”
He tried to fill the Jade Pendant back up with Magical Power. Though it got full, still nothing happened.
Chen Changsheng thought it over but still passed the Jade Pendant back.
Tang Shan snapped back and spoke up, “Sir, why not keep the Jade Pendant and puzzle over it for a few days? If you can’t unlock it, just bring it back later. No problem with that.”
Chen Changsheng said, “Old sir, have you considered? What if the Jade Pendant isn’t meant for me?”
Tang Shan paused slightly after hearing this, then said, “This Jade Pendant has no other use. It’s been passed down for hundreds of years, but the one from the words never came to get it. If you, Mr. Chen, can unlock it, you’ll also solve my Tang family’s mystery from ten generations. Why not do it happily?”
In the end, the Jade Pendant stayed in Chen Changsheng’s hands.
He didn’t refuse again; a feeling in him knew this Jade Pendant must be linked to him deeply.
Tang Shan spoke up, “The tea has cooled. Mr. Chen, drink some tea first.”
Chen Changsheng nodded, then took a small sip of that lotus seed tea. Sadly, his mind was full of thoughts, so he had no heart left to taste the tea.
After finishing the cup of tea, Chen Changsheng said his goodbye and left that little courtyard.
Tang Mingjing, after seeing the gentleman go out the door, asked Grandpa, “Grandpa, about Mr. Chen…”
Tang Shan slightly frowned and said, “Can’t you tell?”
Tang Mingjing parted his lips a bit and said, “I thought him as a wandering mystic; I never expected…”
That flash of green light was way beyond what he thought.
“It couldn’t be that simple!”
Tang Shan sighed and said, “That Jade Pendant was surely left for him; no doubt about it.”
