Chapter 90: The Miraculous Pill
Chapter 90: The Miraculous Pill
After thinking it over, Yao Xianxian realized Lin Mu was right. If he really were from the Hidden Family, he would have dealt with the Yan Family long ago. He wouldn’t have waited until the last incident where she herself nearly died.
But if Lin Mu wasn’t from the Hidden Family, then dealing with a behemoth like the Yan Family seemed incredibly risky. While he might have significant backing, the Yan Family wasn’t easy to deal with – their power was substantial and couldn’t be underestimated.
The girls who stayed with Lin Mu, their families might offer some support, but as long as Lin Mu hadn’t chosen one, those families wouldn’t back him wholeheartedly.
So where did Lin Mu get his confidence to stand against a dominant force like the Yan Family?
Yao Xianxian pondered this for a long time but couldn’t find an answer. She only felt Lin Mu becoming more and more mysterious.
“A-Mu, the reason I debuted as a celebrity actually relates to the cultivation technique I practice. I must constantly temper my will in this chaotic world, otherwise, achieving mastery is extremely difficult.”
Yao Xianxian put down her cup and said thoughtfully.
“That’s why, even now, I haven’t cultivated Zhenqi yet – it’s because I progressed slowly on understanding the technique. But since I debuted, I’ve met countless people, and you’re still the first person I just can’t figure out.”
“Can’t figure me out? Why? I’m a very simple person. Are you thinking too deeply about me?” Lin Mu smiled slightly, turning to look at her.
“You’re only simple on the surface. The shifts in your thoughts inside are like changing clouds in the sky. It’s completely impossible to grasp what you’re really thinking. Even knowing someone was coming to kill you, you remained calm as a mountain, not showing a hint of worry.”
Yao Xianxian examined Lin Mu carefully, her deep gaze seeming to want to see him clearly, to understand him completely.
“I’m naturally not worried. If worrying could make my foe spare me, I’d start praying right now. But sadly, they won’t let you off the hook. So instead of worrying, it’s better to figure out how to face it.”
Lin Mu laughed out loud and said.
“Wrong! You definitely already had a plan in your mind, you just didn’t say it. Otherwise, why would you be so calm?”
“I really don’t have a plan. Maybe it’s just that I’m naturally calm usually.”
“You’re lying! I don’t believe you!”
“Well then, I can’t force you to believe me.”
As the two traded words, the three girls finished cleaning the kitchen. Then they all gathered together boisterously, playing and laughing the entire afternoon. Later, Yao Xianxian had things to attend to, and the four girls parted reluctantly.
After resting at home for a while and eating dinner, Lin Mu got dressed, went out, hailed a taxi, and headed straight for Imperial Dynasty.
To Song Yuru and the others, he just said he was going to seek someone’s help. He didn’t mention it was a place like Zhao Ge, to avoid the three girls worrying at home.
Ye Zixi and the others already knew Lin Mu had been taken into custody. But within less than an hour, Shen Zhuguang personally released him. Though they didn’t know Lin Mu’s exact background, they understood it was formidable.
When Lin Mu arrived at Imperial Dynasty, the outside was already packed with various luxury cars. Lin Mu didn’t usually see so many cars. It seemed that after the middle-aged man turned into an idiot, many were vying for power inside.
Paying the fare, Lin Mu got out and walked straight towards the entrance. Several bouncers immediately surrounded him.
“Sorry! Closed today!”
“Closed? Even better. Saves the trouble of crowds and prying eyes.” Lin Mu replied with a slight smile.
“Kid, stop talking nonsense. We’ve cleared the place today. Move it! Or you’ll need an ambulance later!” a thug who seemed to be in charge spat and waved his hand. Several henchmen stepped forward, looking ready to shoo Lin Mu away.
Just as they were about to act, two young men walked out of the main door. One glanced over, saw Lin Mu, his face instantly changed, and he hurried over, already wearing a wide smile.
“Young Master Lin! What brings you here today?”
Seeing how respectful this man was towards Lin Mu, the thugs felt their hearts sink. They knew this visitor was someone they couldn’t afford to mess with and hastily stepped back.
Lin Mu glanced sideways, recognized the man’s face, and smiled slightly. This was the close subordinate beside the middle-aged man that day, all exceptional ex-soldiers.
“Just dropping by to look around, also to ask for a little favor.”
“Young Master Lin, um… it’s not very convenient today. The big brothers upstairs are having quite a conflict.”
“Oh? Even better. I’ll talk to them collectively then.” Lin Mu nodded, then took the lead and walked inside.
“Boss, who was that guy? He seemed like a big shot,” one of the thugs whispered to his leader.
“Don’t know. Never seen him before. No idea where he came from. But judging by the look? Definitely not someone to mess with. Better not cross paths.”
The other grinned, “Yeah, boss is wise!”
Lin Mu followed the two directly up to the third-floor office. Imperial Dynasty was indeed closed for business today; not a single guest was inside. Everywhere were henchmen packed like sardines.
Some had bulges in their clothes, clearly carrying weapons.
At the office door, even before entering, Lin Mu heard heated shouting inside. He caught snippets: they were arguing over management rights for Imperial Dynasty. It was a juicy piece of meat; none wanted to share it.
With a light turn of the doorknob, Lin Mu walked right in. The big-shot men inside collectively turned to look at him.
“Who’s this kid? How’d he get in? Throw him out! Zero respect!” One of them waved his cigarette, shooing like he was brushing away a fly.
But no one in the room moved. Those who had seen Lin Mu before respectfully greeted, “Young Master Lin!”
Shan Ji also turned around. He knew Lin Mu had been taken by Shen Zhuguang, but not that he’d been released. However, he’d received a warning from Shen Zhuguang: never provoke Lin Mu again, otherwise, if he died, no one would even collect his corpse.
Uncertain of Lin Mu’s true depth, Shan Ji didn’t dare act rashly. If Shen Zhuguang couldn’t offend him, Shan Ji certainly couldn’t. So he turned and lowered his head slightly, “Young Master Lin, you’ve come.”
“Chicken Brother, who is this?” Seeing Shan Ji act this way, the other big-shots weren’t fools. They understood Lin Mu wasn’t to be trifled with and immediately dropped their arrogant airs.
“This is Young Master Lin. Even Director Shen treats him with respect.” Shan Ji didn’t explain directly, instead invoking Shen Zhuguang’s name.
The faces of the big-shots changed instantly. They all knew who Shen Zhuguang was – you couldn’t survive in this world under him without his protection.
“So it’s Young Master Lin! Our deepest apologies! Please, have a seat!”
“Open the window.” Lin Mu instructed the subordinate behind him, who immediately went to open the office window. The entire room was choked with smoke, the air thick with floating haze from the men’s cigarettes.
Lin Mu sat down in the leather chair formerly used by the middle-aged man. The big-shots exchanged nearly imperceptible glances, the muscles around their eyes twitching.
“Alright, no need to trade glances. I know what you’re thinking.” Their little actions were crystal clear to Lin Mu. Competing for territory wasn’t his first rodeo – though back in the Cultivation World, he used to seize dozens, even hundreds of Cultivation Planets.
As for these little scraps on Earth? Lin Mu didn’t even glance at them. He wasn’t here to contest territory; he just needed some help.
“Relax. I’m not here to fight you for this stuff. I came to ask for a small favor.” Hearing this, the big-shots visibly relaxed. With Lin Mu’s powerful backing, if he truly set his mind to competing, none of them stood a chance.
“Young Master Lin, whatever it is, just give the word. There was no need for you to come personally!” Shan Ji laughed heartily.
“Because this matter isn’t suitable to discuss over the phone. That’s why I came myself.” Lin Mu smiled faintly, unconcerned, and continued, “Within the next couple of days, someone might arrive from Europe. This person is different from ordinary people… likely a killer.”
“What I need you to do is send your men to keep a very close eye on the movements in this area. Report anything unusual to me promptly. Of course, I won’t have you work for nothing.”
“Whoever finds him for me gets a handsome reward.”
“Do you know what this man looks like? Any distinguishing features?” one of the big-shots asked.
“Know nothing. Only that he’s coming from Europe. You need to closely monitor every foreigner.”
“That… seems a bit difficult?” another big-shot said with a troubled expression.
“Yeah, Donghai is a huge international city. There are tons of foreigners, plenty from Europe. If there are no specific traits, isn’t it like fishing for a needle in the sea?”
“That’s true. Plus, this man’s a killer. Tracking one is dangerous. Handle it badly, and we could all pay with our lives.”
“I understand everyone’s concerns. Precisely because of the difficulty, I’m offering rewards. Come here.” Lin Mu beckoned to the man who brought him in. “Roll up your sleeve.”
The man immediately rolled up his sleeve, revealing a strong arm.
“Watch closely.” Lin Mu’s right hand formed a sword-finger the instant he spoke and lightly traced it across the man’s arm.
A gruesome wound, ten centimeters long, ripped open the skin. Blood instantly poured out.
The man proved tough. Despite such a long wound opening on his arm, he didn’t utter a sound.
Lin Mu then took out a small, dark pill. Pinched between his fingers, powdery dust sifted onto the wound.
What happened next was astonishing!
The wound began healing at a speed visible to the naked eye. In less than a minute, it vanished completely without a trace. Not even a scar remained!
Seeing this, the big-shots couldn’t stay seated. They jumped up, eyes gleaming with extremely excited light.
