Chapter 62: More Fat Means More Endurance

Lin Mu finished eating at the shop a little past nine, then stepped out. Mo Anyao was heading the same way, since her home wasn’t very far from the shop.

As they walked slowly down the street, a sportscar suddenly screeched out of a nearby alley. It lost control and smashed into a lamppost with a loud crash, then stopped.

Lin Mu and Mo Anyao glanced at the car in surprise. It had been moving so fast that the entire front was crushed. White steam poured out from the hood.

Right then, three vans sped out of the same alley. They braked sharply, and dozens of young men wielding machetes and clubs hopped out. They rushed toward the wrecked sportscar.

Other pedestrians who’d wanted to watch quickly hurried away. Gang fights weren’t something ordinary people should stick around for — they might get hurt themselves.

Lin Mu and Mo Anyao also turned to leave. It wasn’t their business, and they had no reason to get involved.

Suddenly, the sportscar’s door slowly creaked open. A fat person crawled out, bleeding heavily from the head and face. Once free of the car, he struggled to his feet and stumbled forward.

One of the young men chasing him threw a machete. It struck the fat man in the back. Already limping, he fell to the ground again.

Mo Anyao looked back, unable to bear it, and was startled by the sight of the fat man lifting his head.

“Isn’t that Xing Weilong?”

Xing Weilong often hung around their class, mostly to get close to Song Yuru, so nearly everyone knew what he looked like.

Plus, that annoying fat guy had a reputation for being arrogant at school — few people didn’t recognize him.

At that moment, the fat man spotted the two on the sidewalk. He strained to lift his head, saw Lin Mu, and stretched out a bloody hand weakly toward him.

“I’ll go check on Fatty. Call the police.”

Although the two of them had their disagreements, Lin Mu never wished death on Xing Weilong. Seeing the fat man barely hanging on, he decided to help despite his reluctance.

“Be careful, A-Mu!”

Even though she knew Lin Mu was strong, Mo Anyao was still nervous — there were dozens of men with gleaming machetes. As Lin Mu rushed over, she quickly dialed for the police.

Lin Mu ran forward and blocked the young men’s path. He glanced at the fat man, who despite his injuries had managed to crawl this far. All that fat had its benefits — it made him more resistant to beatings.

“Xing Weilong, what’s going on?”

“Save me, man… I’m done for today.”

After gasping out those words, Xing Weilong passed out.

“I thought you had things under control. Getting set up like this — seems like you’ve made too many enemies.”

Lin Mu shook his head helplessly.

“Kid, move aside if you want to live!”

The machete-wielding gang quickly closed in, one of them yelling at Lin Mu.

“Oh? I don’t think I will. What are you going to do about it?”

Lin Mu smiled casually, eyeing the group of fierce young men with interest.

“Cut him down!”

A bald young man at the front pointed his machete at Lin Mu and roared.

“Yes, boss!”

The group shouted roughly in reply, then charged at Lin Mu with their blades raised.

Pedestrians in the distance scattered in panic when they realized a real fight was happening. Mo Anyao screamed and covered her eyes, too frightened to watch.

She heard a chaotic clanging of metal, followed by screams and howls. Curious, she peeked through her fingers.

Lin Mu was slowly walking toward the leader. The ground was littered with young men writhing in pain.

Mo Anyao dropped her hands in disbelief, her eyes full of admiration. That was amazing — and it hadn’t even been a minute, had it?

“Kid, don’t come closer! Do you know who I am?!”

The leader’s hand trembled as he held his machete. He’d only seen a shadow flash past like a ghost, then all his men were on the ground.

Taking down dozens of armed men in under a minute, without a scratch — that showed incredible skill.

The young man knew he was no match for Lin Mu. He wanted to run, but his legs wouldn’t move.

“Who you are has nothing to do with me.”

Lin Mu chuckled lightly, amused by the young man’s obvious fear. He quite enjoyed the feeling.

“I’m from the Anji Society. Cross us, and you’ll end up in pieces!”

The young man’s body shook as he tried to sound threatening.

“Oh? We live in a society with laws, and you dare act like this? Too bad — I don’t believe in playing by your rules.”

After saying this calmly, Lin Mu moved. His figure vanished, then reappeared gripping the young man’s machete-wielding wrist before he could dodge.

With a light squeeze to a pressure point, the machete clattered to the ground. The young man dropped to his knees, howling in pain.

“Please, spare me! I was wrong!”

The agony from the pressure point shot through his heart.

“Weren’t you pretty tough just now?”

Lin Mu looked calmly at the young man’s twisted face.

“Boss, I really was wrong. Let me go, I’m just a lackey following orders.”

“Is that so? Then tell me, why are you trying to kill Fatty?” Lin Mu raised an eyebrow.

“Boss, I don’t know. I’m low-level — just a fighter. When orders come, I carry them out. I don’t ask questions.”

“Well, you must at least know who gave the order to kill Fatty.”

Lin Mu nodded and continued questioning.

“I know that. It was my boss — he’s a branch leader in the Anji Society.”

“His name?”

“Pi Hongxing.”

The young man’s face was contorted with pain as he hurriedly answered.

“If you’re lying, you’ll suffer worse than death.”

Lin Mu spoke mildly, then released him.

“Boss, I wouldn’t dare lie to you.”

The young man sighed in relief, but as he finished speaking, a sharp pain struck his neck, and he collapsed unconscious. Lin Mu had knocked him out.

Lin Mu then knocked out the rest of the gang members one by one before returning to Mo Anyao. Just then, police sirens sounded in the distance.

They’d arrived in under ten minutes — the police worked pretty fast.

“Let’s go, Anyao.”

“What about Fatty? We’re just leaving him?”

“Don’t worry, an ambulance will be here soon. Fatty just lost some blood; he won’t die.”

Lin Mu smiled and shook his head. He’d already assessed the fat man’s injuries — nothing serious.

“Okay, but A-Mu, you’re really amazing!”

Mo Anyao looked at him with admiration, her eyes shining.

“It’s nothing special. These thugs are just too weak compared to me.”

“I’ve only seen skills like yours in movies.”

“Movies use lots of special effects — it’s fake. But there are many true experts in real life.”

Lin Mu said meaningfully.

“You beat Yagyū Kojirō this time. Probably no one at school will dare challenge you again.” Mo Anyao grinned.

“Not necessarily. There are still a few experts at school. Beating Yagyū Kojirō was no problem, but some people just don’t like fame and competition.”

“Really? There are people that strong at school?”

Mo Anyao was astonished.

“Do you know any of them?”

“Yes, I know a few. Experts can sense each other’s presence.” Lin Mu smiled.

“I don’t really understand your world, but it seems pretty cool — you all know martial arts!”

Once her earlier fear faded, Mo Anyao grew excited. After all, a real-life martial arts master had just appeared before her eyes — anyone would be thrilled.

Watching Mo Anyao skip cheerfully ahead, Lin Mu chuckled softly to himself and shook his head slightly.

When Lin Mu got home, the three girls weren’t there — probably out having fun again. After showering, he headed to his room to rest and noticed an unread message on his mobile phone.

Opening it, he saw it was from Ji Qinglan. She basically told him not to be angry, that her grandfather meant no harm, but old people tend to overthink things, and she hoped he wouldn’t take it to heart.

Lin Mu thought for a moment, then sent a reply.

“I’m not angry. But if someone looks down on me, I won’t cling to them needlessly. Whether I have what it takes in the future — we’ll see. Everyone’s eyes are sharp. Good night.”

Ji Qinglan, who’d been anxiously waiting in bed, felt relieved when she saw Lin Mu’s message. She tried to sit and meditate, but couldn’t focus, so she gave up and went to sleep.

The next day, as soon as Lin Mu entered the classroom, he noticed many students gathered around. Curious, he set down his books and went to look. He froze when he saw who was sitting there.

It was Situ Xiu.

“What? I heard she was studying in Jingdu. What’s she doing here in Donghai?”

Muttering to himself, Lin Mu was clearly surprised.
