Chapter 58: The Challenge Letter
Chapter 58: The Challenge Letter
“No way! Mom, your daughter just missed you and dad so much while in Jingdu!”
Her mother had seen right through her. Situ Xiu’s pretty face instantly turned slightly red, and she acted coquettishly in protest.
“But it’s been two years. Why didn’t we hear you say you missed us before?” the beautiful middle-aged woman said with a laugh.
“Mom, just because I didn’t say it doesn’t mean I didn’t miss you in my heart! Anyway, my decision is final.”
“Dad, please help me transfer to Donghai University!”
Having said that, Situ Xiu immediately turned and fled, afraid that if she stayed another minute, her sharp mother would see through her lie.
“This child, really!”
Seeing Situ Xiu turn and run away, Situ Feng looked quite speechless.
“A grown daughter cannot be kept at home. We can’t control whether we agree or not anymore.”
“Oh? You noticed something?” Situ Feng asked curiously.
“Did you hear about what happened at the banquet last night?”
“Huh? What happened?” Situ Feng clearly had no idea.
“You! You should spend more time caring about our daughter when you have the chance. I saw Xiu’er talking with a young man for a while. That young man even gave her a birthday gift in the end; it seemed to be a few words.”
“I suspect that Xiu’er might be interested in that young man.”
The middle-aged woman analyzed everything logically, acting like a female Zhuge Liang.
“Dear, aren’t you perhaps overthinking this?”
Situ Feng smiled and shook his head, then took a sip of his bird’s nest and abalone porridge.
“Don’t you not believe me. Just wait and see. People say a father knows his daughter best, but look at you, you’re not doing your duty at all. Hurry up and finish your porridge, then go rest. Don’t overwork yourself.”
The beautiful woman shot Situ Feng a glare, then turned and left the study.
“Ah, I’d like to rest too, but someone has to be the Family Head!”
Situ Feng let out a long sigh. After finishing his porridge, he made a phone call to arrange his daughter’s school transfer. Then, he immediately began handling other matters.
Early the next morning, Lin Mu finished breakfast and ambled his way to the classroom. To his surprise, he saw Mo Anyao in the classroom again.
“Morning!”
Lin Mu greeted her and found a seat to sit down.
“Just now, while I was walking, I saw someone’s eyes wandering all over the place, and he almost ran into a lamppost.”
Mo Anyao chuckled, looking at Lin Mu teasingly.
“Uh, well, I was just admiring the scenery.”
Lin Mu immediately looked somewhat embarrassed. That scene had actually been noticed by Mo Anyao. At the time, he was looking around and unintentionally spotted two scantily clad beautiful women.
After staring a couple of seconds too long, he failed to notice a utility pole in front of him. At the very last moment, he sidestepped to avoid it. Lately, Lin Mu had realized he was inexplicably starting to pay attention to women.
Whenever there was a pretty woman, his gaze would unconsciously be drawn to her. He felt somewhat troubled by this himself, not understanding why he had become like this.
Mo Anyao giggled. “Hehe, those two beauties really were quite pretty.”
“Not bad, not bad!”
Lin Mu broke out in a fine sweat and hurriedly laughed it off.
More and more students filled the classroom, and it was gradually nearing class time. Lin Mu also took out his books, ready to start the lesson.
Right at that moment, a beauty suddenly walked in through the classroom door. The previously somewhat noisy classroom instantly fell silent, as if a cold wind had whooshed through the room. Everyone shivered.
Feeling that familiar chill, Lin Mu immediately looked up. Sure enough, as he expected, it was Ji Qinglan.
Walking all the way to Lin Mu’s side, the cold-faced Ji Qinglan suddenly broke into an stunningly beautiful smile. She reached out and linked her arm with Lin Mu’s.
“A-Mu, come with me for a moment. I need to talk to you about something.”
Lin Mu was startled, then a trace of a bitter smile flickered across his face. This Ji Qinglan was going to be the death of him. Pulling a stunt like this so early in the morning, he was going to become famous in school again.
“What is it?”
“Just come, you’ll know in a moment.”
Ji Qinglan pouted her little mouth and pulled Lin Mu out of the classroom.
Only after the two had left did the classroom suddenly erupt.
“Whoa! Wasn’t that the Frost Maiden, Ji Qinglan?”
“Yeah! It was her! Isn’t she supposed to be an ice block?”
“Oh my god! The ice melted! The Frost Maiden also likes men!”
“That brat Lin Mu! He’s already monopolizing three former school belles, and now he’s not even sparing the current school belle!”
“Beast!”
“Shameless!”
A group of male students immediately started loudly criticizing Lin Mu, filled with righteous indignation. Mo Anyao, sitting quietly to the side, also felt dizzy. What charm did this Lin Mu have that made these school belles fall for him one after another?
Was it just because he’s a bit handsome and his kung fu is good? Is he really that popular?
Ji Qinglan pulled Lin Mu along at a quick pace, and soon the two reached the other end of the corridor.
“Alright, what’s this about so early in the morning?”
Lin Mu glanced back. From the doorways of all the classrooms along the corridor, sneaky heads were peeking out, trying to spy on what the two were doing.
“Dad wants to see you tonight. Come home with me.”
Ji Qinglan suddenly dropped a bombshell. Lin Mu was so shocked he was momentarily stunned, staring blankly at Ji Qinglan for a good while.
“Hey! Did you hear me or not?”
“What? Your dad wants to see me? Why?”
Coming back to his senses, Lin Mu rolled his eyes in exasperation. What was this all about? They had only met twice, and now he had to go meet her parents? Wasn’t this efficiency a bit too high?
“I told Dad everything about us. He wants to meet you, his future son-in-law.”
Ji Qinglan’s pretty face flushed slightly, making her look utterly adorable. Her gaze was shyly fixed on Lin Mu.
“Why did you tell your family so quickly?”
“It just slipped out; I wasn’t paying attention for a moment. You don’t want to go, do you?”
Instantly, a layer of frost seemed to cover Ji Qinglan’s face, and a chilling aura began to emanate from her. The crowd of peeping onlookers behind them immediately pulled their heads back in.
“Fine, fine, I’ll go!” Lin Mu sighed.
Watching Lin Mu walk back to the classroom listlessly, a sly glint flashed in Ji Qinglan’s eyes.
“Hmph! How can the future husband of this young lady be snatched away by another woman? Since you have so many rumored girlfriends, I’ll just declare first that you already belong to me!”
When Lin Mu returned to the classroom, the moment he entered he saw two students wearing black martial arts uniforms. Just as he was wondering about them, a male student in the classroom pointed at Lin Mu.
“There he is. He’s the Lin Mu you’re looking for.”
The two students immediately turned to look at Lin Mu. One of them walked over, bowed, and handed over a stiff card.
“Hello, Lin Mu. This is a challenge letter from our club president. This afternoon at four, in the Stadium. We await your honored presence.”
Lin Mu was already feeling depressed, and now someone was issuing a challenge. He casually took it and glanced at it.
Since they had come all the way to challenge him, and in front of so many classmates, he couldn’t refuse.
“Alright, I understand. I’ll be there on time this afternoon.”
After saying just a couple of words, Lin Mu walked past the two back to his seat. He exerted a slight force with his body and easily pushed the two aside.
The two young men were inwardly shocked. They had also trained hard for many years, yet Lin Mu had pushed them aside so easily. He really had some skill!
At that moment, Ye Zixi also arrived at the classroom. She saw these two people who were just leaving. She sat down next to Lin Mu and asked curiously, “What did those two Japanese people want?”
Lin Mu passed her the challenge letter. Ye Zixi opened it and looked, and her expression immediately became serious.
“Yagyū Kojirō! It’s actually him!”
“What? Is this person very strong?”
Lin Mu opened his book and asked casually.
“Very strong, quite strong indeed! Currently, no one in the school can beat him. At best, some can fight him to a draw.”
“Oh? There aren’t any real experts among the students, right? Even if there were experts, they might not necessarily fight him. So he can’t be that amazing.”
Lin Mu still looked nonchalant.
“No, this Yagyū Kojirō is a genuine Martial Artist. I’ve seen him once; he’s definitely an Expert!”
Ye Zixi put down the challenge letter and stared very seriously at Lin Mu.
“Is he that good? Then I’ll have to go see for myself this afternoon. It just so happens my kung fu has been improving lately. I need to find someone to spar with to see if I’ve made progress.”
Lin Mu nodded, looking very interested.
Ye Zixi, however, felt somewhat worried. Even though Lin Mu could beat Li Guangrui, Yagyū Kojirō and Li Guangrui were not on the same level.
After class, Ye Zixi went to another lecture. Lin Mu had nothing to do. There was a long break between the big lectures, so he went to the park to stroll around a couple of times and clear his mind.
Just as he was thinking about how to handle going to Ji Qinglan’s house that evening, a sudden plop sound came from not far away—the sound of something hitting the water. Turning to look, Lin Mu immediately saw a human figure sinking beneath the water’s surface.
Glancing around, he realized he was the closest one. He sighed helplessly; it seemed he could run into anything.
But since he had seen it, he couldn’t just stand by and watch someone drown. Changing direction, Lin Mu quickly ran to the lakeside, kicked off his shoes, and dove straight into the water.
Diving down a little, Lin Mu saw the figure of a woman gradually sinking. She was struggling continuously, but her struggle made her choke on several mouthfuls of water, and she soon lost consciousness.
After pulling her out, Lin Mu used a slight True Qi External Release to stimulate her stomach. She immediately started vomiting water continuously. After a good while, she slowly regained consciousness.
Lin Mu took a careful look at the woman. She seemed quite beautiful. Even though she was soaked, her natural beauty was evident; a beauty was still a beauty.
“How are you feeling? Better?”
Seeing the woman awake, Lin Mu crouched beside her and asked.
“Yeah, better. Thank you.”
The woman coughed a few more times, then slowly and somewhat awkwardly climbed to her feet.
As she stood up, Lin Mu’s expression turned slightly strange. It turned out the woman’s clothes were very thin. Now that she was standing, they clung tightly to her body, revealing her lovely figure.
Noticing Lin Mu’s gaze, the woman seemed a bit shy and discreetly tried to pull her clothes away from her body.
