Chapter 174: Case Handover
Chapter 174: Case Handover
Officer Fu poured out the bullets and carefully rubbed the cross-section of one.
“Officer Fu, these are the evidence collected by the officers from that hotel room. According to the statement provided by the reporting Mr. Dong, the perpetrator at the time had a soft, sword-like weapon. It’s quite likely these bullets were sliced apart by that weapon,” Wang Zhiyi said, pointing to the documents on the table.
“A Soft Sword?” Fu Feng’s eyebrows shot up immediately. If this person truly used a Soft Sword to slice these bullets apart, then their skill must be exceptionally high. Ordinary people cannot wield such a specialized weapon, let alone use it with such mastery.
“Based on the description, it should be a weapon of the Soft Sword type,” Wang Zhiyi nodded.
“Who is this Mr. Dong who reported the case?” Fu Feng looked thoughtfully at the other documents and continued asking.
“This person is the owner of the Jingdu Fuheng Group, with a net worth exceeding ten billion. The group has wholly-owned subsidiaries across various industries, operating on a very large scale. He is also a person with significant social influence, so we took Mr. Dong’s report very seriously,” Wang Zhiyi briefly introduced Dong Yueming’s background.
“So it’s him. I wondered which Mr. Dong it was. Hmph!” Fu Feng nodded slightly and let out a quiet snort, clearly also aware of this Dong Yueming. “Where is he now?”
“He’s at a private hospital under the Fuheng Group, currently undergoing treatment. If Officer Fu wishes to see him, you can go there,” Wang Zhiyi turned on his computer and marked an address on the map.
“The hospital? Why is he in the hospital?”
“The documents mention this. Mr. Dong suspected that the perpetrator had secretly used some serious technique on him. After returning, he discovered he could no longer function like a normal man. So he has been undergoing checks at the hospital these past few days,” Wang Zhiyi took a file from the folder and handed it to Fu Feng.
After glancing at the file, Fu Feng nodded, then stood up to take his leave. “Alright, this case is now formally transferred to us. We will handle the follow-up matters; you no longer need to be responsible.”
“Then we’ll trouble you, Officer Fu,” Wang Zhiyi stood up and saw Fu Feng to the door. He watched the BMW SUV drive away before returning to his office.
As soon as he sat down, he immediately made a phone call.
“Hello, Boss Dong, it’s Wang Zhiyi,” Wang Zhiyi said with a smile as soon as the call connected.
“So it’s Director Wang. Has there been any progress in the case?” Dong Yueming, lying on the hospital bed, immediately asked with delight.
“There has been some headway in the case. However, because the perpetrator is not ordinary, it has now been handed over to another department. I expect someone might come to re-interview you in the next few days. Please cooperate with them when they do,” Wang Zhiyi outlined the general situation.
“Fine, that’s not a problem. As long as they can catch that guy, I’ll cooperate however needed,” the two chatted for a few more moments on the phone before hanging up.
In the car, Fu Feng took out the documents and looked through them carefully again. He then took the USB drive from the folder, plugged it into the car, and operated the touchscreen. The car’s display immediately began playing the surveillance footage from the USB drive.
At first, Fu Feng didn’t pay much attention, merely glancing at the footage while driving. But when a young man appeared in the hotel lobby, in the very next second, Fu Feng swerved right and slammed on the brakes, bringing the BMW to an abrupt stop by the roadside.
In just a one-second interval, that young man disappeared from the surveillance footage. If the video hadn’t been edited, then this young man’s speed was simply too fast, exceeding the camera’s ability to capture dynamic motion.
Retrieving a laptop from the back seat, Fu Feng plugged the USB drive into the computer. He opened a specialized software, navigated to the previous timestamp, and played it back at twenty-four times slower speed.
This time, the figure of the young man finally appeared on the screen. In less than a second, he dashed to the stairwell on the right side of the lobby and then disappeared into the stairs.
Even at twenty times slower speed, the young man’s form remained very blurry, almost just a blur of light on the screen. After all, the hotel’s surveillance camera wasn’t an ultra-high-speed camera and couldn’t capture such rapid movement.
“Truly a remarkable Expert. Just looking at this speed shows he’s no ordinary person!” Frowning slightly, Fu Feng closed the notebook, tossed it onto the passenger seat, and drove off.
While filming, Lin Mu suddenly spaced out for a moment. He watched as a white car whizzed past on the road, his gaze flickering slightly. Fortunately, no one else noticed, only Yao Xianxian, who was acting opposite him, caught it.
“A-Mu, what was that just now? Why did you space out suddenly?” Yao Xianxian asked while drinking water after they finished filming that scene.
“It’s nothing. I just saw that BMW pass by again—the same one from before where the man got out to rescue someone. I just took an extra look,” Lin Mu shook his head with a smile. Things that could attract his attention were naturally not ordinary. The reason that BMW caught his eye was simply because the person driving it was quite unusual.
“Well, the waters run deep here in Jingdu. Various forces are deeply intertwined, and naturally, the number of Experts is countless—official, unofficial, there are simply too many. Any force that can establish itself in Jingdu is not to be underestimated,” Yao Xianxian glanced back at the road, but the white BMW had long since vanished. She turned back and whispered to Lin Mu.
“Of course. This is the center of Huaxia; how could there be few Experts? I just didn’t expect to encounter an Expert who has reached the Qi Cultivation Realm on the road,” Lin Mu gave a slight smile, feeling a strange premonition that he and this BMW man might have some kind of interaction. However, the thought was fleeting, and he didn’t pay it much mind.
“The real Expert is standing right in front of me. What does that BMW driver amount to?” Yao Xianxian covered her mouth with a laugh, her eyes curving into little crescents.
The two rested for a while before the director notified them to continue filming the next scene. While they were busy with the shoot, Fu Feng, driving his BMW SUV, had already arrived at the entrance of the private hospital Wang Zhiyi had indicated.
After asking a nurse for directions, he went straight to the twelfth floor. Dong Yueming was currently in a Special Care Ward on the top floor.
When he reached the ward’s entrance, two bodyguards standing on either side stopped him.
“Who are you here to see?” the bodyguard on the left asked warily, looking at Fu Feng.
“Here to see your boss. I’m a police officer,” Fu Feng took out a small blue-black booklet. The seal on the cover resembled a police badge, but upon closer look, it had over a dozen additional intricate patterns resembling wheat ears, giving it a rather mysterious feel.
“Let that officer in,” just as the bodyguard took the booklet to examine it carefully, Dong Yueming’s voice suddenly came from inside the ward.
The bodyguard blocking the way immediately returned Fu Feng’s credentials and let him enter the ward.
The ward was decorated cleanly and neatly. Although it looked ordinary, Fu Feng could tell at a glance that all the materials used were top-end. The ward’s decorations alone were immensely valuable, not to mention the array of advanced equipment lined up against the wall.
“What should I call you, officer?” Dong Yueming, lying on the bed, appeared quite normal, not looking ill at all.
“It seems you’ve received the news. I’m the one taking over this case. You can call me Officer Fu. The police station is no longer handling your case because it’s beyond their capabilities,” Fu Feng pulled over a chair and sat down by the bed.
“That’s excellent news. To be honest, I didn’t think regular police could deal with that guy either. He wasn’t even afraid of guns; my bodyguards couldn’t last a single encounter against him. He was truly formidable,” Dong Yueming nodded repeatedly, looking genuinely fearful.
“I’ve reviewed some of the documents and have a general understanding of the situation. However, there are some details I need to inquire about in person to get a more precise picture,” Fu Feng nodded.
“Of course, Officer Fu, please ask away. I will hold nothing back and tell you everything I know,” Dong Yueming immediately said, fully cooperative.
Fu Feng then took out a notebook and began asking various questions about the incident at the time. Dong Yueming appeared somewhat awkward at one point because he had indeed concealed some facts, such as why he had rented the room there in the first place.
However, Fu Feng was quite perceptive. Just seeing Dong Yueming hesitate and stammer told him the man was hiding something. But Fu Feng wasn’t particularly concerned about these issues; compared to that Expert, they were minor matters.
“Are you certain he was holding something like a sword, but it looked soft, not as rigid as a typical sword?” After finishing the other questions, Fu Feng closed his notebook.
“I’m absolutely sure. There was a period in the middle where the weapon he held drooped in his hand. I saw it very clearly. Although I don’t know where he pulled it out from, it really did look like a sword,” Dong Yueming nodded firmly.
“By the way, about your injury, have any test results come back?” Fu Feng glanced at the medical equipment not far away; all the readings were within normal ranges, with nothing noteworthy.
“Not yet. Several specialists have been invited for consultations, but none of them could find any issues. Examinations with the equipment also showed nothing abnormal. Apart from my pre-existing three highs, everything else is normal. The doctors said my body is actually quite healthy,” Dong Yueming sighed. Just mentioning this filled him with frustration. Could it be that the fright from that day shocked him into impotence?
“If you don’t mind, I could give it a try,” Fu Feng said with a faint smile.
“Officer Fu, you understand medicine too? That’s wonderful!” Dong Yueming’s eyes lit up, and he immediately spoke with delight.
