Chapter 10: This Girl Is Not Simple
Chapter 10: This Girl Is Not Simple
Du Xiaoyue’s words made Lin Mu’s smiling face suddenly darken. His chest puffed out a little, and he seemed to grow taller.
“Hmph! An engagement? Do you think I care about that? Even if you begged to marry me, I wouldn’t be willing to marry you! Do you think all the men in the world are that spineless?”
Cold words spilled from Lin Mu’s mouth, like a biting wind sweeping over the group of girls across from him. They had been smiling and ready to watch the fun, but in an instant, they were all stunned, standing as still as wooden chickens.
“You!”
Du Xiaoyue had never imagined Lin Mu would counterattack like this. For a moment, she was tongue-tied and didn’t know what to say. She could only stare blankly at Lin Mu’s face, as if she were seeing him for the first time.
“You what, you! Marry whoever you want, what does it have to do with me? From today on, the engagement is canceled!”
Lin Mu glanced indifferently at Du Xiaoyue, a cold sneer curling at the corner of his mouth.
“That was really great!”
Just as all the girls were stunned and dumbfounded, Tang Beibei suddenly burst into loud laughter. She patted Lin Mu’s arm hard, because reaching his shoulder was too much effort for her.
The two exchanged a smile, then turned and strode away proudly, like proud roosters, full of vigor and spirit.
Watching their retreating backs with gritted teeth, Du Xiaoyue’s expression shifted between dark and light. Her small fists were clenched tightly, looking utterly furious.
“What… what evil has gotten into Lin Mu?” Wang Ya stood dumbfounded, unable to believe it.
It turned out that the story of the five of them going to the sophomore lecture hall to find Lin Mu and thoroughly humiliating him had already spread far and wide. It wasn’t because of Lin Mu, but purely because Du Xiaoyue was too beautiful.
The relationship between Du Xiaoyue and Lin Mu had gradually become known, and regarding their engagement, most people shared the same view as them, believing that Lin Mu was simply not worthy of Du Xiaoyue.
Just as they were planning to pick on Lin Mu again to make him even more embarrassed, they suddenly discovered that Lin Mu had quietly disappeared from Donghai University.
After some inquiries, they learned that Lin Mu’s relative had come to the school to ask for leave, saying he was sick and uncomfortable and was staying in the hospital for treatment, which was why he hadn’t been attending classes.
They finally ran into Lin Mu today. Du Xiaoyue and the others had planned to mock him freely again, but who would have thought Lin Mu would suddenly seem like a different person, shocking them all into disarray.
“Hahaha! Lin Mu, that was so satisfying just now!”
Tang Beibei hopped joyfully, her big eyes squinting into slits from laughter.
“So, did that girl have a grudge against me before?”
Lin Mu chuckled, feeling inexplicably cheerful as he looked at Tang Beibei.
“More than a grudge! It was a huge humiliation!” Tang Beibei stopped, raised a delicate fist and waved it angrily, then detailed what had happened in the lecture hall.
“So, this Du Xiaoyue wanted to force me to break off the engagement?” Lin Mu frowned. “Then wasn’t I just doing what she wanted?”
“Broken off is broken off. What’s so great about a woman like that? She has the heart of a snake!”
Tang Beibei spat in disdain, her face full of contempt. Lin Mu shrugged slightly, neither agreeing nor disagreeing.
“Hey, you’re not regretting it because she’s pretty, are you?” Tang Beibei eyed Lin Mu suspiciously, looking as if she would turn and leave immediately if he dared say yes.
“Of course not. I just feel letting it go like that is really letting her off too easily.” Lin Mu laughed and shook his head.
“Ugh, that kind of woman is nothing but trouble. It’s better to stay away from her.” Tang Beibei looked utterly disdainful. “Come on, I’ll take you to the class. You can’t forget your classmates. Go and reintroduce yourself to everyone!”
Lin Mu nodded. Since he didn’t know the way, he could only follow Tang Beibei around.
Teaching Building A, History Department, Class Three.
Tang Beibei led Lin Mu as they wandered along. They had just reached the front door of the classroom when, before even entering, a cold gleam suddenly shot out from inside the room.
Lin Mu, following behind, flicked his eyes and his right hand twitched slightly as if to do something, but he immediately restrained the impulse.
Because Tang Beibei, in front of him, swiftly raised her right hand. The next moment, she had caught a red throwing dart between her index and middle fingers. The sharp point was less than a finger’s length from Tang Beibei’s eye.
“Chen Hao!” Moving the dart away from her face, Tang Beibei pointed at a boy in the classroom and stamped her foot with an angry shout. “How many times have I told you! No playing with throwing darts in the classroom! What if you hit a classmate?!”
“Sorry! Sorry!” The boy named Chen Hao hurriedly apologized repeatedly, wearing an embarrassed smile. “Class Monitor, I didn’t mean to. I just slipped up this time!”
Tang Beibei shot him an exasperated look. “Just admit your skills are lousy, but you still love showing off in front of everyone. I feel embarrassed for you!”
Walking into the classroom, Tang Beibei looked utterly disappointed. With a casual flick of her hand, the throwing dart vanished. A dull thud sounded, and the dart was now embedded in the target on the back wall of the classroom.
Without the slightest error, it had hit the bullseye dead center!
