Chapter 3: The Spirit of History and Reincarnation

“New module, new function, and a costume? What is this?”

Looking at the costume named Qingxu Sect’s Sect Leader, Chen Xiyi felt a bit confused. He could understand the first two, but the costume named Qingxu Sect’s Sect Leader was hard for him to grasp.

“This really can’t mean that the newly born Outer Realm Demonic Celestial is the Qingxu Sect’s Sect Leader, right?”

“As brief as always, and what is this charm thing…” Chen Xiyi looked at the added attribute but didn’t pay much attention to it. He equipped it right away.

He took a quick look at his character in the character panel. He did look like an immortal with an elegant demeanor. Even though he thought his appearance was plain, with the costume’s boost, his overall vibe improved a lot.

But Chen Xiyi didn’t like it much. It looked good, but the problem was it was too eye-catching. After looking at it for over ten seconds, he quickly turned it off.

In this empty world, looking good didn’t help much.

Then he turned his attention to the new module and function under the panel.

Chen Xiyi wasn’t sure what the Spirit of History was, but he understood Cycle. From the name, it probably meant reincarnation, right? What else could it be?

“Spirituality? Fairies?”

This made Chen Xiyi feel strange. He activated it without hesitation.

“Is Enlightenment and Spirit Communication a skill?” Chen Xiyi looked at the new skill. This skill was used to awaken the Spirituality in items with Historical Connotation and turn them into Fairies.

The Fairy Miniature Garden Blueprint gave Chen Xiyi designs for a place called Miniature Garden, where Fairies could live. Each Fairy had its own Miniature Garden.

The Complete Fairy Recipe Book was for making food that Fairies needed. Of course, if he got a Fairy skilled in cooking, like one awakened from a wok or a kitchen knife, it could help with that too.

As for the Fairy Care Manual, it was exactly what it sounded like—a guide for raising Fairies.

“This Spirit of History Module seems pretty amazing.”

Chen Xiyi couldn’t help but feel impressed. For example, if he awakened a Fairy from an axe, that Fairy could help him chop trees. If he awakened one from a pickaxe, it could help him mine and gather stones.

Even if he awakened Fairies from things like a furnace, fishing rod, hoe, or sink, it meant he might not have to do anything himself. By raising Fairies, he could just relax and enjoy life.

If he awakened a weapon-type Fairy, and another Outer Realm Demonic Celestial appeared, he would have a helper to fight with him.

More importantly, he’d have someone to talk to.

So Chen Xiyi eagerly picked up his wooden spear, ready to awaken a Fairy.

The failed use of the Enlightenment and Spirit Communication skill was like a cold splash of water for Chen Xiyi. The Spirit of Historical Heritage was not easy to come by.

At the very least, the item needed to be old and have some experiences.

The former was about Time, the latter about Connotation. Only then could the Spirituality be awakened and turned into a Fairy.

For example, items like Wang Xizhi’s calligraphy, the First Emperor’s Tai’a Sword, or Zhang Heng’s seismometer.

“Fame, Time, and experiences—these three make up the Spirituality.” Chen Xiyi felt a bit annoyed.

The first two were manageable, but the last one about experiences was tricky.

If he came across an item with Historical Connotation and wanted to get it, he had to buy it fairly or receive it as a gift. If he used dishonest methods to get it, the item’s final experiences would be flawed.

It didn’t matter if the item changed hands in between. The flaw came from how he obtained it—whether it was through proper trade or a gift—not from all its past experiences. The past experiences affected the Fairy’s abilities and type, not the flaw.

If he got it through bad means, the awakened Fairy might have negative traits like rebellion or greed. It might even disobey him.

After all, that was part of the item’s experiences.

But if he got it through positive means like a gift or a fair purchase, the Fairy would have positive traits.

Since he would be raising them himself, Chen Xiyi hoped for Fairies that were loyal and friendly, not troublesome ones.

“My things lack Historical Connotation, so if I want Fairies, I’ll have to rely on the Cycle Function.”

[Enter a random world, then this function goes on cooldown. Cooldown time varies.]

The Cycle Function wasn’t about reincarnation; it was about going to a random world. Chen Xiyi felt that the newly born Outer Realm Demonic Celestial was actually a good guy.

This way, his Spirit of History Module would finally be useful.

But a new problem came up: safety.

“I need to prepare a lot of things I’ve ignored before.”

Chen Xiyi said to himself.

“A new world means I can get a lot of non-renewable resources. I can move from the wood age to the stone age or even the iron age. With enough resources, I can get stronger quickly.”

Because things like stone and Iron Ore were non-renewable resources, Chen Xiyi had built everything from wood—like wooden armor, wooden weapons, and a Wooden Hut.

In his original Homestead, these non-renewable resources were already used up. They were mostly used to make essential things like the Furnace, Workbench, feed maker, and so on.

By the time he realized these resources were gone, it was too late. He had to use wood for everything after that.

Luckily, wooden tools worked just like stone or iron ones, even if the stats were lower. But some things couldn’t be made without non-renewable resources.

Thankfully, he had made those essential facilities. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to make many of the things he used now. It wasn’t like he was some genius.

He just relied on the various functions of the Sandbox Game called Homestead.

Basically, he selected the materials for crafting and waited for the progress bar to finish.

“Weapons, armor, tools, food.”

“I need to get ready soon. I’ve waited ten years, and finally, I can go out and see the world.”

Chen Xiyi’s face showed excitement. This was even more thrilling than defeating his first monster. After all, it meant he wouldn’t have to talk to himself in loneliness every day.
