Chapter 7: Zerg Infighting
Chapter 7: Zerg Infighting
As an otaku, Fatty Lei had played StarCraft. So he knew very well about the Zerg’s attack power. He had also watched the Europe and America movie ‘Starship Troopers’.
He still remembered how humans were swarmed by bugs in the film.
Fatty Lei’s face turned pale, his lips blue and purple.
“Damn it!” Fatty Lei felt terrible inside. He even wondered if he had done something bad, so he was punished like this and sent to this place by fate.
Fatty Lei thought and thought, but couldn’t recall doing any evil deeds that angered heaven and people. One might even say he was a very good, kind person in this restless society.
“It shouldn’t be like this…”
Fatty Lei stared at the bugs killing each other, his face changing colors several times.
If one didn’t know better, they might think Fatty Lei was performing a face-changing act.
The bugs split into two factions, fighting each other. Compared to when Fatty Lei first came to this world, the fighting between these bugs was even more cruel and unsettling.
“Crack! Crack!” “Squeal! Squeal!”
The sounds of bug bones breaking and their squeals mixed together, continuously echoing over the desert area.
Fatty Lei clenched his teeth tightly. Due to tension and fear, his muscles were taut all over, almost stiff.
The fight between the bugs didn’t last long before, quite dramatically, they all died out.
Both Zerg factions, not a single bug survived. This made Fatty Lei extremely happy.
Fatty Lei, hiding behind a sand dune, carefully observed for a long time. Finally, he shot his Laser Rifle a few times at the Zerg remains to confirm the bugs were truly dead.
Only after confirming this did Fatty Lei stand up from behind the sand dune.
“The Planetary Storm might start soon. I need to hurry back to the Military Outpost. These damn bugs wasted a lot of my time. I must hurry.” Fatty Lei looked at the sky; it was getting late.
There was about a three-hour time error for the Planetary Storm, so Fatty Lei didn’t know its exact start time. He only knew that within three hours, the Planetary Storm could start at any moment.
Looking back at the tightly tied Sand Beast, Fatty Lei tightened the rope around his waist. He then started walking toward the Military Outpost. He didn’t dare stay here long, not just because of the bug threat, but mainly because of the possible Planetary Storm.
Gathering his courage, Fatty Lei crossed the area filled with bug remains. On the way, he even raised his hand and shot at the bug bodies a few times.
After passing through the area covered with bug corpses, the Military Outpost finally came into Fatty Lei’s sight.
But Fatty Lei didn’t look happy. Instead, his pupils instantly contracted, and his body jerked to a sudden stop.
“What happened! How did it become like this!”
About one hundred meters away on each side of the Military Outpost gate stood two wriggling flesh pillars. Below each flesh pillar, there were dozens of tubes. At the end of these tubes was a circular flesh membrane about one meter wide.
The two flesh pillars were different colors. One was black, the other purplish-red.
Fatty Lei could hardly believe his eyes. His mouth hung open.
“Hive!!!!”
Fatty Lei felt cold inside. He truly didn’t expect such a deadly weapon to exist on this desolate planet.
What was this! This was a Hive! The Zerg troops producer, the supreme being of a race.
Such a creature suddenly appeared before Fatty Lei. How could he not be shocked?
Moreover, this time it wasn’t just one Hive, but two…
“God! Don’t mess with people like this!”
Fatty Lei’s ‘tiger body shook greatly.’ Fine sweat instantly covered his forehead.
At this moment, the desert within hundreds of meters around the Military Outpost gate had disappeared. It was replaced by the Zerg Hive’s unique terrain marker—a thick layer of dark ‘ground.’
Since there were two Hives, both needed to lay down such ground to cultivate their own Zerg warriors.
So in front of Fatty Lei, he could clearly see the purplish-red ground, and opposite it was the black ground. These were things produced by the two Hives, displayed before Fatty Lei.
There were no bugs around the two Hives anymore. It seemed the war bugs from both sides were wiped out in that mutual slaughter. For Fatty Lei, this was as good as it could get.
Fatty Lei quickly judged the situation. “Hmm! I’m about three hundred meters from the Military Outpost gate. They probably can’t produce war bugs quickly. If I sprint with all my might, I might make it into the Military Outpost. Once I get in, I’ll be safe.”
Fatty Lei looked up at the sky, his mind racing.
Having made up his mind, Fatty Lei didn’t hesitate. Although he was a non-confrontational otaku in his original world, that only showed one side of his personality. It didn’t mean he was indecisive.
Moreover, after crossing into this world, Fatty Lei had some awareness.
Given the situation, besides striving to survive, Fatty Lei had no other thoughts.
“I, Lei Yaotian! Will definitely live on well!”
Fatty Lei roared, then started sprinting toward the Military Outpost gate.
Of course, before sprinting, he had pressed the remote control for the Military Outpost gate, and the gate was slowly opening.
However, Fatty Lei’s speed wasn’t very fast. After all, he was dragging a Sand Beast weighing over a hundred jin behind him.
Normally, at such a time, it would be best to discard the Sand Beast, which slowed him down. But Fatty Lei couldn’t bring himself to abandon this creature that was crucial for his water and food for a week. So he decided to keep dragging the Sand Beast as he rushed toward the Military Outpost.
Three hundred meters wasn’t too short, but not too long either.
Under normal circumstances, even dragging a Sand Beast over a hundred jin, he could cover that distance in about twenty minutes.
But today was different. On both sides of the gate, there were two Zerg Hives.
Fatty Lei knew his life was at stake, and he unleashed terrible potential.
In just ten minutes, Fatty Lei, panting heavily, rushed into the Military Outpost gate. He then dragged the Sand Beast inside with great effort and pressed the remote control button to close the gate.
Untying the rope from his waist, Fatty Lei ran to the Watchtower with his Laser Rifle.
Fatty Lei saw clearly that the moment the Military Outpost gate closed, a circular membrane under the black Hive burst open.
“Squelch!”
A creature resembling a Xenomorph let out an unpleasant squeal as it appeared there.
Meanwhile, opposite the black Hive, a War Bug was also produced.
The War Bugs from both sides looked similar. As soon as they appeared, without a word, they started a new fight.
From the Watchtower, Fatty Lei watched the War Bugs fight, his face changing expressions.
“The situation is very bad now. These bugs killing each other should be a good thing. But the problem is, once they determine a winner, they might attack me.” Fatty Lei watched the two bugs fighting below, his eyes flickering, thinking to himself.
Fatty Lei held the Laser Rifle with both hands, aiming it downward.
“I should just take them out while they’re fighting and there aren’t many War Bugs yet.” Fatty Lei felt he should take the risk. Otherwise, once they settled the fight, he would be in trouble.
Just as Fatty Lei considered whether to act, the fight below ended.
The black bug sliced the purplish-red bug into three pieces. But the black bug didn’t fare much better.
Fatty Lei saw that the black bug’s four upper limbs were reduced to just one blade arm, and its six lower limbs were down to five. Its triangular body was covered with large gashes, and green fluid kept oozing out.
Though badly injured, it had won.
The black Hive seemed very excited now. It quickened its body’s tremors. Thick vascular tubes continuously pulsed, pumping something into the flesh membranes below.
The purplish-red Hive, clearly afraid or something, made the vascular tubes on its body squeeze even faster.
The only remaining War Bug in the field stumbled toward the purplish-red Hive.
“It’s starting! They’ll soon decide the winner. When the purplish-red Hive is destroyed, I’ll attack the black Hive with all I’ve got! But before that, I must not let it produce more War Bugs.” Fatty Lei stared intently at the black Hive below, aiming the Laser Rifle barrel at it.
The half-crippled black War Bug stumbled to the front of the purplish-red Hive’s body.
As if sensing the danger it faced, the Hive’s vascular tubes wriggled even faster.
But at this point, what use was it?
The half-crippled black War Bug swung its only remaining blade-like front limb, destroying all the flesh membranes around the purplish-red Hive that hadn’t produced War Bugs yet.
After those membranes were destroyed, the purplish-red Hive seemed to know its impending fate. The vascular tubes stopped wriggling, and its entire large body began to shrink slowly.
But this didn’t make its opponent spare it. It was all in vain.
The black bug raised its only remaining front limb, stood upright, let out a very unpleasant squeal, and struck the purplish-red Hive’s body.
Green fluid splattered everywhere.
Meanwhile, Fatty Lei, who had been observing from the Watchtower for a long time, pulled the trigger.
“Buzz! Buzz!”
The Laser Rifle’s power was set to maximum output. A spiral of dark blue light shot toward the black Hive.
