Chapter 50: On the Verge of Breaking Out
Chapter 50: On the Verge of Breaking Out
Fatty Lei stood on top of the Armored Vehicle, looking down at the situation inside the Basin.
Although the temperature was high and he was protected by Artificial Humans, Fatty Lei still felt a chill as if he had fallen into an ice cave. The scene in the Basin beneath the Sand Dune was truly shocking and terrifying.
The dense Bugs emitted sharp, screeching calls. If Fatty Lei had not lived in this World for two months and encountered these creatures numerous times, gaining a bit of resistance, he would have turned and run immediately.
Of course, Fatty Lei had asked whether their Armored Vehicles could escape if the Bugs charged at them.
Wangcai gave a very clear answer: the Armored Vehicles were faster than the Bugs.
It was only with this premise that Fatty Lei dared to act this way.
Moreover, the target of these Bugs was not Fatty Lei and his group but someone else.
Inside the Basin, Yellow Sand filled the sky as the Bugs lined up neatly like warriors about to go to battle. Some restless Bugs, always agitated, scratched the ground with their lower limbs, stirring up clouds of Yellow Sand.
Coupled with the wind blowing through the Basin, a scene of sand and dust everywhere appeared.
The Hive, which looked like a fleshy tumor, kept squirming as it produced its soldiers. Over time, it squirmed faster and faster, as if it knew it was about to face a brutal war.
“What kind of creatures are these Bugs trying to deal with?” Fatty Lei pondered for a long time but could not figure it out. After all, in this Desert, besides these highly destructive Bugs, there were only those…
“That’s right! It must be those Xenomorphs!” Fatty Lei clenched his fists tightly. He thought of the other dominant group among the two major races in this Desert.
“I never expected that the Xenomorphs and the Bugs are also fighting,” Fatty Lei murmured to himself.
Because Artificial Humans were present, Wangcai could not address Fatty Lei as Master. So he had to call him: “Commander Master, what have you thought of?”
Hearing this, Fatty Lei glanced at Wangcai and then continued to watch the situation in the Basin.
“I might have figured out who these guys’ enemies are.”
Wangcai immediately perked up, leaning in with a gossipy expression. “Who are the enemies of these disgusting Bugs, Master?”
Fatty Lei flicked Wangcai on the forehead with a ‘pop!’ “Use your brain a bit more in the future. Think carefully, who else could it be?”
That flick did not hurt at all, especially since Wangcai was an Intelligent Lifeform. But he still pretended to be in pain, letting Fatty Lei feel a little proud.
It had to be said that the sycophant Wangcai was getting better at reading minds and had taken a big step forward on the path of being a sycophant.
Data streams flashed in Wangcai’s eyes before he whispered, “Could it be those ferocious Xenomorphs?”
Fatty Lei nodded slightly. “I guess it’s those Xenomorphs. Otherwise, why would these Bugs be so nervous?” After answering Wangcai, Fatty Lei continued, “Whether in Combat Power or numbers, only those Xenomorphs dare to be enemies with these Bugs.”
After hearing Fatty Lei’s words, Wangcai tilted his head and thought, “But why are the Xenomorphs and the Bugs enemies? Their levels of cruelty are about the same, and their Combat Power is evenly matched. What’s more, neither side has a clear advantage in numbers, so a war between them doesn’t seem worth it.”
Wangcai was quite puzzled by this.
“Don’t overthink it. Many things are actually not that complicated. Essentially, they are very simple; it just depends on how you look at it.” Fatty Lei looked mysteriously at the Basin and said softly.
Wangcai stared blankly at his Master. He truly did not expect his Master to use his brain. In Wangcai’s perception, his previous Master was someone who did not like to think much.
So Wangcai thought his current Master should be the same.
But unexpectedly, his current Master was completely different from what he had imagined.
“It seems my current Master is slowly changing himself,” Wangcai thought to himself as he looked at Fatty Lei.
However, a Master who liked to use his brain and was motivated was a good thing for Wangcai. So Wangcai was very happy because the quality of a Master was crucial to him.
Wangcai did not want to encounter another lazy and unmotivated guy as his Master.
Although Fatty Lei’s personality and temper had been somewhat unpredictable earlier, that was just because he had been alone in this godforsaken place for two months and was in a phase of venting.
After all, Fatty Lei was just an ordinary person, not a perfect ‘god.’ He had his flaws and often made mistakes or said the wrong things.
After all, he was just an average ordinary person, right?
Of course, that was without considering Fatty Lei’s identity as a Transmigrator…
Wangcai had already thought about all this, so he understood it clearly.
Thinking of this, Wangcai put on an inquisitive expression and whispered, “I’d like to hear the details.”
The types of Bugs were very monotonous, with no other varieties of combat Bugs appearing. It seemed the level of this Hive was not very high, and it did not have the ability to produce more powerful Bugs.
Fatty Lei scanned them a few times and guessed.
Just then, he heard Wangcai’s question. Fatty Lei did not look away but quickly filtered the questions he had in mind through his thoughts and said, “Actually, this is just my guess. After all, I don’t know much about it either. Let’s just treat it as a discussion between the two of us. It’s not like I can talk to those blocks of wood about it.”
Clearly, the ‘blocks of wood’ Fatty Lei referred to were the Artificial Human Soldiers, who only knew how to follow orders.
As an Intelligent Life, Wangcai’s intelligence and personality were no different from an ordinary person’s. So Fatty Lei practically treated Wangcai as someone he could discuss issues with and confide in.
Moreover, as Fatty Lei had said, aside from Wangcai, there was really no one else around with whom he could discuss things.
“First, these Bugs are not very intelligent. Don’t be fooled by their ferocity; they are just like these Artificial Humans—they only know how to follow orders and charge forward as Cannon Fodder.” Fatty Lei squinted at the Basin as he spoke to Wangcai.
“The one who truly possesses intelligence is that creature that looks like a big fleshy tumor.” At this point, Fatty Lei pointed at the squirming Hive.
“That thing?” Wangcai had never seen a Hive before, so he was not very clear about these key issues. When Fatty Lei pointed it out, Wangcai looked incredulous.
“How did you know, Master?” Wangcai suddenly thought of this question.
“Should I tell you that I used to play StarCraft?” Fatty Lei curled his lips and thought to himself. Of course, he would not say these words to Wangcai; Fatty Lei was not that stupid.
Regarding the matter of being a Transmigrator, Fatty Lei was determined to keep it to himself and tell no one.
But facing Wangcai, Fatty Lei still found an explanation.
“A interstellar traveler once told me about the species of these Bugs. That’s how I know. Otherwise, how do you think I figured it out?” Fatty Lei gave Wangcai an explanation.
Wangcai accepted it; he was not one to pry too deeply.
After hearing Fatty Lei’s words, Wangcai also focused his attention on the Bugs in the Basin.
After scanning the Hive a few more times, Wangcai said to Fatty Lei, “Commander Master, if we follow your reasoning, if we take out this Hive, these Bugs would be left without a Leader. Then they would fall into chaos, and if they’re chaotic, they would no longer pose a threat to us.”
Wangcai looked at the problem simply. First, he thought of the Xenomorphs and Bugs that occasionally appeared around their Military Outpost. Now that they had found a Bug nest and heard Fatty Lei’s words, Wangcai felt they should eliminate this Hive. That way, the threats around the Military Outpost would be greatly reduced.
“So we could take them by surprise at a critical moment and strike. It would be best if we could take out the Leaders of both sides. If not, just taking out the Hive alone would be good too.” A cold glint flashed in Wangcai’s eyes. In his view, anything that threatened his Master should be eliminated.
“I’m afraid it’s not as easy as we imagine,” Fatty Lei sighed deeply. “I’m also tempted by your suggestion, but we can’t act rashly.” Fatty Lei turned to Wangcai and said.
Wangcai was about to speak when Fatty Lei raised his hand to stop him.
“I know this could be very advantageous for us. After all, we’re spectators while they fight. If we strike unexpectedly, we might achieve unexpected results.” Fatty Lei said.
Wangcai nodded, his face showing an expression that said, “That’s exactly what I meant.”
Fatty Lei looked at Wangcai seriously. “But have you considered what we would do if we accidentally incited their hatred?”
Faced with Fatty Lei’s objection, Wangcai did not know how to respond.
“Maybe… maybe things won’t turn out that way.” Wangcai’s voice grew softer. He truly had not considered how to handle the follow-up problems; it was something he had never thought about before.
As an Intelligent Butler, this was his failure.
After Fatty Lei’s question, Wangcai deeply felt his own shortcomings.
At the same time, he secretly resolved to think more carefully about problems in the future.
“Taking out the Leaders of both sides is easy, especially since our weapons can attack from a distance.” Seeing that Wangcai had fallen into thought, Fatty Lei continued to explain to him.
“But if we eliminate both Leaders, the remaining Xenomorphs or Bugs would see us as mortal enemies. That would be a lose-lose situation. What’s more…” Fatty Lei paused here, thinking of an even more critical issue that concerned him deeply.
After eliminating the Hive, would these Bugs evolve another Hive?
Fatty Lei knew all too well about the terrifying Evolution speed of the Bugs.
That was why he was so worried.
If their side really eliminated both Leaders, there was no way they could wipe out all the remaining Bugs. There were just too many of them, so they would have to retreat.
Once they retreated, it would give the other side a chance to catch their breath. If his guess was correct, and the Bugs or Xenomorphs evolved another Hive, then their mortal enemies would definitely be his side.
Facing the overwhelming attacks of the Xenomorphs and Zerg with just a small Military Outpost, he knew he would not be able to handle it.
“Ah,” Fatty Lei sighed deeply, “We just don’t have enough strength!”
“Commander! A large number of biological signatures have appeared beyond the Sand Dune ahead!” Just as Fatty Lei was sighing, an Artificial Human Soldier emerged and reported to Fatty Lei.
“They’re here!”
Fatty Lei and Wangcai fixed their gazes beyond the opposite Sand Dune. One by one, the ferocious Xenomorphs emerged from behind.
As the Xenomorphs appeared, the Bugs in the Basin began to stir restlessly and hiss.
The ‘war’ was on the verge of breaking out…
