Chapter 3: Danger in the Shadows
Chapter 3: Danger in the Shadows
“Is this the video surveillance room?”
Fatty Lei searched through the Basement and learned about all the rooms inside.
Then he sat down in front of the machine that was full of video screens, staring at the images thoughtfully.
Actually, Fatty Lei’s guess was correct; this was indeed the video surveillance room. However, as for why it was built underground, Fatty Lei couldn’t figure that out.
On the screens, the corpses were constantly being swept up by the violent wind and thrown high into the distance. Inside the entire Military Outpost, because of this storm, it became completely clean.
Fatty Lei, who had originally been worried about how to deal with those corpses, couldn’t help but feel a bit happy.
But he didn’t stay happy for long before his face scrunched up.
“Why am I so happy? The corpses are gone. But what about all that Yellow Sand? I can’t clean up that much sand by myself.”
It turned out that while the storm carried away the corpses, it also brought a thick layer of Yellow Sand into the Military Outpost.
Although because of the storm, this Yellow Sand hadn’t settled on the ground yet, Fatty Lei knew that once the wind stopped, a lot of this sand would definitely pile up in that area.
“Who cares! I don’t plan to stay here long anyway. Once the wind stops, I’ll find a way out. I can’t just wait here to die. If those ‘monsters’ attack again, I won’t be able to handle them.” Fatty Lei took his backpack from behind, pulled out a bottle filled with blue liquid, and took several big gulps.
“Ah~”
Fatty Lei put down the bottle. “If this place wasn’t so dangerous, staying here for a few days would actually be nice,” Fatty Lei thought to himself. “Even this drinking water tastes sweet. Do the soldiers here all drink this stuff?” Fatty Lei looked down at the blue liquid in his hand.
“Besides tasting good, it also makes me feel pretty comfortable after drinking it.” Fatty Lei closed his eyes and focused on the sensation.
Earlier, he had experienced shock, vomiting, panic, and was drenched by the rain. His face had long been pale, but after drinking this liquid, Fatty Lei’s face actually gained a rosy glow, and his whole body felt more energetic.
In truth, Fatty Lei had no idea that the liquid he drank was used to enhance soldiers for combat; it wasn’t meant to be drinking water at all.
Now, Fatty Lei only felt that he was full of energy, and his earlier fatigue was completely gone.
Fatty Lei felt like he had endless strength in his body, enough to pull an ox backwards.
Excited, Fatty Lei no longer sat quietly staring at the screens. Instead, he stood up and started pacing back and forth.
Although Fatty Lei didn’t know he had mistakenly drunk something he shouldn’t have, his mind was very clear in this excited state.
“There’s plenty of food! I don’t have to worry about food for a short time. It’s also safe inside the tunnel. For a short time, I don’t have to worry about attacks from those monsters. So for me, the biggest concern is my identity. That’s what I can’t explain clearly.”
Fatty Lei kept walking around, his mind completely focused on this problem.
“This place has no other living people besides me. It looks like they might send more troops here later. When that happens, I definitely won’t be able to explain myself clearly. After all, a species that can travel through the Universe should find it easy to check someone’s identity.”
“When that time comes, my identity will definitely be exposed and cause me trouble.”
Fatty Lei put his hands behind his back, constantly thinking of solutions.
He thought of many ways, but none were useful. Basically, as soon as they check, they’ll find out everything about Fatty Lei. Nothing can be hidden.
But Fatty Lei, already in an excited state, couldn’t calm down at all. All his bodily functions were in a state of extreme excitement—this was the consequence of drinking random things.
…
…
“Darn it! It’s been several hours already. Why am I still so excited!” Fatty Lei finally realized something was wrong.
By this time, Fatty Lei had been wandering around the spacious hall in the Basement for several hours.
“Could it be because of that blue liquid?” Only then did Fatty Lei remember that he had only drunk that stuff. Thinking of this, Fatty Lei quickly walked to the sofa, picked up his backpack, and pulled out the bottle of blue liquid from inside.
Fatty Lei had found this liquid in the Supply Depot, where there were more than ten metal barrels full of it. Fatty Lei carefully tasted a bit before safely filling a bottle.
Since he had searched for a long time in the Supply Depot and couldn’t find any drinkable water, he assumed that this sweet-tasting liquid, somewhat like the sports drinks from his original world, was what people in this world drank.
Actually, Fatty Lei didn’t know that on this Planet, there was no drinkable water source at all.
Although it occasionally rained, the rainwater contained many substances harmful to the human body and couldn’t be consumed. Moreover, the Empire’s Third Fleet had originally planned to withdraw from this Military Outpost, so they didn’t build the relevant facilities.
The water used by the original garrison here was strictly rationed.
Kalong’s squad had originally planned to stay for just two or three days after changing shifts before leaving.
But unexpectedly, just a few hours after the shift change, they were attacked by ‘monsters.’ So the water and supplies the personnel carried were all destroyed in that battle.
Fatty Lei, being new here, knew absolutely none of these factors.
Outside, the storm gradually stopped.
The Planet had moved to the other side of the Giant Planet, and the entire Planet was enveloped in darkness.
“Buzz~~”
When darkness fell, the sensing System in the Military Outpost immediately activated the lighting devices.
Through the videos, Fatty Lei could clearly see that dozens of strong lights on the Metal Walls illuminated the area hundreds of meters around the Military Outpost, making it as bright as day.
When the lighting devices started, Fatty Lei got a scare.
“What the! What was that sound!”
Fatty Lei dashed to the wall and grabbed his Laser Rifle.
Only after a while did he figure out that it was just the lighting System turning on.
Letting out a sigh of relief, but due to his body’s extreme excitement, Fatty Lei decided to go outside through the tunnel to take a look and breathe some fresh air.
“Click, click.”
Fatty Lei picked up his Laser Rifle, fiddled with it in his hands, and then went up the tunnel stairs to the exit.
The exit was closed. Fatty Lei saw a button on the wall, reached out, and pressed it.
“Hiss~~”
A sound like gas leaking was heard, and then the exit opened.
Fatty Lei held his gun and walked out through the tunnel opening.
When Fatty Lei stepped out of the Command Room, he found that the severed limbs and the colorful internal organs that had been stuck on the walls were all gone, swept away without a trace by the storm.
Unlike before, the air now was very fresh, completely free of the rotting smell.
The Planet had plunged into complete darkness.
In the sky, Fatty Lei could see the outline of the distant Giant Planet due to the light conditions.
This was a magical sight completely unseen on Earth. If this place weren’t so dangerous, Fatty Lei wouldn’t mind enjoying the view properly.
Fatty Lei quickly ran to the metal high platform, to the small slope that the ‘monsters’ had piled up with their bodies.
It was precisely because of this spot that those ‘monsters’ had broken through the humans’ defense, rushed in, and slaughtered everyone, leading to the complete wipeout of the humans here.
In other words, this was the weak point of the Defense System, which was why Fatty Lei paid so much attention to it.
Fatty Lei ran over, panting heavily, first tilting his ear to listen and see if there were any strange movements nearby.
If there was any sound, Fatty Lei decided he would turn and run without a second thought.
After listening for a long time, it was completely silent.
When darkness fell, there wasn’t the slightest sound on this Planet, making it seem completely lifeless.
Fatty Lei carefully peeked out and saw that the small slope made of monster corpses had been completely swept away by the storm. He finally relaxed a bit.
“Whew~”
Fatty Lei leaned against the protective barrier, using the light from the walls to carefully observe the surroundings.
Since that small slope was gone, the worry in Fatty Lei’s heart eased slightly.
From the earlier battle, Fatty Lei knew that those ‘monsters’ couldn’t possibly jump up here.
After all, the Metal High Wall was over twenty meters high; it wasn’t something you could just climb up easily.
Fatty Lei walked into the Watchtower, where the view was relatively better, offering a 90-degree field of vision.
Holding the Laser Rifle, Fatty Lei started pondering.
“I’ve already Transmigrated. This place looks like a Military Outpost. And those guys look just like me, and I can understand their speech. But I can’t read their writing, which is a bit tricky.”
While thinking, Fatty Lei looked at the Planet with a golden ring showing.
“Now, all the people here are dead. I don’t know if they’ll send more people for reinforcements. If there are no human gathering points on this Planet, that would really be a tragedy.”
Thinking of this worst-case scenario, Fatty Lei’s heart couldn’t help but tremble.
Just then, suddenly, a series of rapid ‘swish~ swish~ swish~’ sounds came from far away.
Fatty Lei immediately became alert, hiding behind the firing port of the Watchtower, tightly gripping his Laser Rifle.
“Could it be those monsters are coming back? Such a big storm didn’t blow them all away!” Fatty Lei cautiously observed the direction of the sound, his palm holding the Laser Rifle already sweaty.
An empty Military Outpost, a randomly appearing Transmigrator.
On a small Asteroid full of unknowns, facing unknown dangers, how far could he go…
