Chapter 2: Unknown Planet
Chapter 2: Unknown Planet
After the thunderstorm, the damp air was filled with a rotten smell.
Lei Yaotian had to close the Command Room door, which made his breathing a bit easier.
Sitting in the chair inside the Command Room, Lei Yaotian forced himself to calm down and think carefully.
“It seems I really have transmigrated. Whether that’s good or bad, I don’t know yet. Whether I have any protagonist template is something to set aside for now. The most important thing is to know what dangers are nearby and whether I can survive in this damn place.”
After Lei Yaotian calmed down, his Otaku brain started calculating quickly.
After all, the biggest advantage of being an Otaku was judging the situation.
He remembered that when he first appeared here, this place was in the middle of a fight.
So Lei Yaotian had to consider whether those fierce Bug creatures would attack this place again in the future.
If those things really attacked this place, he couldn’t fight them off; the only option was to hide. But Fatty Lei wasn’t very familiar with this place, so he needed to figure out its layout as soon as possible.
Thinking this, Fatty Lei stood up at once and walked out of the Command Room.
As he opened the Command Room door, a wave of bloody smell mixed with a strange stench made him feel nauseous.
Fatty Lei steeled himself, fought back the urge to vomit, and looked over the Military Outpost’s external facilities.
The whole Military Outpost was about the size of five basketball courts. Besides the over-twenty-meter-high walls, there were four tall Watchtowers.
The Command Room was built right against the northern wall. Over by the western wall was a semi-circular metal building, which he figured was the Supply Depot.
Fatty Lei recalled that, when he first transmigrated, the guy who told him to fight did point at that building and tell him to go get a weapon.
Beside the semi-circular metal building stood a three-story long metal building.
“Looks like that’s where the soldiers rest,” Fatty Lei thought to himself.
“Weapons! Food—these are what I need right now. I’d better check the Supply Depot first.”
Fatty Lei quickly made a decision.
He then walked quickly over, circled the semi-circular metal building several times, but after searching for a long time, he couldn’t find the door switch for the Supply Depot.
“Damn!”
Fatty Lei cursed under his breath.
‘I can understand their speech, but I actually can’t read their writing. That’s just ridiculous.’
Fatty Lei felt extremely annoyed.
Because of the heavy rain, the humidity was high in the air.
His clothes were soaked and clung tightly to his body, which felt very uncomfortable.
And with the rain, the smell of the corpses in the Military Outpost began to spread, making it unbearable for Fatty Lei.
Left with no choice, Fatty Lei gave up and went back into the Command Room.
Slumping down on the Command Room sofa, Fatty Lei’s face was dark with frustration.
“If I can’t open the Supply Depot, I have no way to get weapons. The weapons used by those soldiers outside are all broken and unusable. If there really is more danger, what should I do?”
Fatty Lei muttered softly.
No matter how much he thought, Fatty Lei couldn’t come up with a solution.
After all, transmigrating from Earth meant the gap in culture, knowledge, and technology was huge.
If Fatty Lei could use the tools of this era right after transmigrating, he’d be a real monster.
Fatty Lei suddenly stood up, walked over to the console instruments, and examined them carefully.
After looking for a long time, Fatty Lei still didn’t understand anything.
“Sigh~”
Fatty Lei had to let out a deep sigh.
“Bang!”
He punched the surface of the instrument hard, causing sparks and crackling as electricity surged wildly.
Fatty Lei said to himself, “If I can’t figure out how to open the Supply Depot and find weapons, food, and water inside, I don’t think I can survive.” Fatty Lei turned to look at the corpses outside. “Who knows if those ‘monsters’ outside will attack again?”
Every time he thought about this, Fatty Lei felt extremely upset.
Just then, a sudden “Sss~~” sound of gas leaking came from behind Fatty Lei.
“Crap! Where’s that leak?”
Fatty Lei quickly turned and looked left and right, seeing a one-square-meter hole in the metal floor not far behind him.
Fatty Lei walked over and took a look.
There were stairs, seemingly leading downward, but the question was whether it was safe down there.
Fatty Lei felt a bit uneasy.
That was natural, since Fatty Lei was just an ordinary person. Feeling fear toward the unknown was normal.
Then Fatty Lei wondered how this tunnel entrance had opened.
“It seems I just hit that instrument a bit.” Fatty Lei turned his gaze toward the instrument he had punched hard. “Looks like this instrument must be the control center for this damn place. I need to study it carefully.” Fatty Lei then turned back and began calmly studying this strange thing.
…
…
“Whew~”
About two hours later, Fatty Lei finally understood a little, though not completely.
Although he hadn’t figured out all the functions of the control instrument, he at least knew which button controlled the Supply Depot.
Even though Fatty Lei couldn’t read the words, after several tries he could remember which button with which symbol controlled what.
Of course, after two hours of study, Fatty Lei only understood the switches for the Military Outpost gate, that tunnel entrance, and the Supply Depot.
As for other functions, Fatty Lei hadn’t figured them out at all.
For example, sending a signal to request help from the Third Fleet, but there was no reply—Fatty Lei didn’t know that.
Or that the Energy left in this Military Outpost was almost gone—Fatty Lei didn’t know that either.
The numbers and light spots on the instrument, as a Transmigrator, Fatty Lei simply couldn’t understand them all.
But even so, Fatty Lei was quite satisfied.
Inside the Supply Depot, Fatty Lei found food and water, and also clothes to change into.
For Fatty Lei, these were the most important things.
“Click! Click!”
Fatty Lei held a Laser Rifle, waved it around a bit, then slung it over his back.
“Damn! I can only use this Laser Rifle, since I used it earlier. The other weapons—I can only look at them; I don’t know how to use them. If something went wrong, I’d be in trouble.”
Looking at the weapons on the racks in the Supply Depot, Fatty Lei thought resentfully.
Now, Fatty Lei had changed into a new set of clothes.
The black Combat Suit, worn by Fatty Lei, actually made him look more spirited.
The Combat Suit fit well, and there were metal armor plates on the shoulders, chest, and abdomen.
Carrying a backpack he found in the Supply Depot, now filled with food, Fatty Lei walked out.
Scrunching his nose, Fatty Lei looked at the ground full of corpses and felt a headache.
“What should we do with these bodies? We can’t just leave them here like this. If we don’t handle them, not only will the smell from the rotting corpses be awful, but they’ll also breed bacteria and viruses.”
But for now, Fatty Lei had no way to deal with the bodies and could only let them rot and stink there.
Fatty Lei walked back up onto the Metal High Wall. After steadying himself, he began to observe the surroundings.
As a Transmigrator, Fatty Lei needed to know the environmental conditions of the place he was in.
Wherever he looked, there was nothing but desert.
A huge planet was visible in the sky. And another planet far beyond it, Fatty Lei could see with his naked eye.
On Earth, you couldn’t see a scene like this. Fatty Lei was completely shocked.
Fatty Lei had only seen such a scene once in a movie.
(Predator 4, where several humans were dropped on an unknown planet.)
“It seems this is an alien planet,” Fatty Lei thought to himself, seeing this scene.
This scene was very similar to a certain movie Fatty Lei had watched. So Fatty Lei was almost certain that he was now on some unknown planet.
“This damn place, it’s all desert, just desert. After the desert, there’s still desert, isn’t there anything else at all!!!” Fatty Lei looked around, and all that met his eyes was endless desert.
These desert areas stretched on and on, you couldn’t see the end at all.
This situation made Fatty Lei’s head hurt instantly.
“Hmm~ This is really troublesome now.” Fatty Lei thought that he alone had no way to walk into the desert area to leave this place, and it gave him a huge headache.
After all, he couldn’t stay here for long. Because he didn’t know if those earlier ‘monster’ Bugs would come again.
And since this area was all desert, there must be a lack of water here.
Although there was food and water in the Military Outpost, over time it would all be used up.
So in Fatty Lei’s view, only by leaving this place and finding a city or settlement with living people could he truly consider himself saved.
But Fatty Lei simply didn’t know that on this planet, which was only one percent the size of the Moon, aside from this Military Outpost, there were no other ‘human’ settlements.
Of course, excluding the Zerg…
And Fatty Lei also wanted to blend into a ‘human’ settlement to see if there was any way to get an identity.
You have to understand, Fatty Lei had transmigrated here; in this era, he had no identity at all, completely a person with no records.
If he waited until the ‘reinforcements’ for this place arrived, he figured he would be exposed. Who knows what fate would await him then… Sliced into pieces?… Research with lines plugged into his head?…
These things were not impossible, so whenever he thought of these images, Fatty Lei’s body would shiver.
“No! I absolutely refuse to be a lab rat!”
Fatty Lei would never allow himself to suffer such abuse.
Just as Fatty Lei was imagining himself being abused, a black line suddenly appeared at the edge of the desert on the horizon. The appearance of this black line made Fatty Lei very puzzled. “What is that thing?” Fatty Lei raised his hand to shield his forehead and peered carefully.
He saw that the black line on the horizon was rapidly rolling toward the Military Outpost.
The already gloomy sky suddenly turned dark yellow.
A “Whoosh~ Whoosh~ Whoosh~” sound reached Fatty Lei’s ears.
“It’s a sandstorm!”
This time Fatty Lei saw clearly what it was; that black line was actually Yellow Sand churned up by a sandstorm.
Actually, what Fatty Lei didn’t know was that sandstorms were very common on this planet. Basically, at this time every day, there would be one.
And it lasted for five or six hours.
Perhaps due to the gravity or magnetic force from the nearby planet, this sandstorm was fierce and highly destructive.
Fatty Lei didn’t dare stay on the metal platform any longer and quickly jogged all the way back to the Command Room.
After entering the Command Room, Fatty Lei closed the door of the Supply Depot and also shut the Command Room door.
Still uneasy, Fatty Lei then opened the small door to the underground passage and went down the stairs into the tunnel.
As Fatty Lei entered the tunnel, with a “Click~ Shhh~” sound, the tunnel entrance closed.
Immediately after, the sound of the sandstorm raging came from above.
“Whooooo~~ Whooooo~~ Whooooo~~”
“Bang! Crash!”
It seemed like many objects were swept up by this gust of wind, crashing into the walls inside the Military Outpost with huge impact noises.
“Oh my god! What kind of horrible place is this? Not only are there lots of monsters, but it also has sandstorms.”
Fatty Lei stood there, his face pale, pricking up his ears to listen for a while, then pulled himself together and walked down the stairs.
On both sides of the tunnel walls, there were installed tubular long lights.
So Fatty Lei didn’t have to worry about not seeing the path ahead due to darkness.
The stairs weren’t long; after about thirty seconds, Fatty Lei reached the bottom.
As soon as he reached the bottom, Fatty Lei’s field of view suddenly opened up.
“Whoa! It’s really spacious down here!”
A wide area the size of a basketball court appeared before Fatty Lei’s eyes.
On this area, the front wall was hung with dozens of things like video screens, inside which scenes of the raging wind were playing.
On the left side, a row of instruments that Fatty Lei couldn’t understand at all kept beeping ‘beep beep beep’.
On the right side, a circle of sofas was arranged there, and there was also a small bar with many types of alcohol and cigarettes placed on it.
“Who knows what this place is for, why are there things like this here.” Fatty Lei muttered to himself as he walked over to the bar, took out a pack of cigarettes, and brought it under his nose to smell.
“Damn! Good cigarettes!”
As an experienced smoker, Fatty Lei immediately judged the quality of the cigarettes.
