Lei Yaotian followed Wangcai to the far end of the Laboratory. Wangcai pointed at a Cultivation Tank nearly twice the size of the others. “This is the new life form. It succeeded after countless failures, fusing dozens of creature Genes from Mr. Andrew’s World.”
Lei Yaotian looked where Wangcai’s finger pointed. Inside the huge Cultivation Tank’s pale green fluid, a tiny body floated.
This ‘little girl’ had long, glossy black hair and delicate features. Her small nose fit perfectly with her face, making her seem perfectly balanced.
“But why is it a girl? And she doesn’t look very old,” Lei Yaotian asked, frowning.
Wangcai knocked on the tank before explaining. “After many failures, I adjusted all the Gene Sequences. I found female life forms have stronger will to live and better resistance than males. That’s why I made this one female. But… there were some mistakes. That made her seem young,” Wangcai explained step by step.
“Still, her Combat Power is solid.”
“You tested it?” Lei Yaotian was curious.
“Yes!” Wangcai nodded. “She’s quite developed. Tests show her cells are very active. So, her calculated Combat Power is strong. And that’s before merging the Saiyan Gene. Once fused, her strength should multiply several times over.”
“Woah… that sounds terrifying,” Lei Yaotian said, looking shocked.
Wangcai smiled. “Well, it’s life from the Fantasy Dimension. Their Genes are naturally powerful. I screened, adjusted, and reordered their Gene Sequences too. I removed defects. So, this new life is much better than any before,” Wangcai detailed his research.
Lei Yaotian studied the little girl in the tank. He saw strange, deep black Runes covering her arms and waist. These weird symbols made the quiet, eyes-closed girl seem a touch wild.
“What are these Runes?” he pointed and asked.
Wangcai came closer to look. “I don’t actually know. They appeared as she grew and stayed on her body. I don’t understand it, but I think it’s fine.”
“Does she have barbarian Genes?” Lei Yaotian guessed, thinking about a Fantasy Dimension race.
Neither Lei Yaotian nor Wangcai knew the truth. The Runes appeared because too many species’ Genes had fused.
The Demon Race, humans, Elves, beastkin: about a dozen races. Andrew had sold him Genes from creatures like the six great magic dragon clans, vampires, and Abyss dwellers.
Besides that, Wangcai had changed the Gene Sequence order himself after merging them all.
So, some weird changes weren’t surprising.
“Let’s try fusing with the Saiyan Gene. Maybe this little one can handle the Saiyan’s strong Gene energy,” Lei Yaotian said to Wangcai, turning his head.
“Okay. We’ll try today. I meant to do it sooner, but work kept me busy,” Wangcai agreed. He walked to a nearby controller and tapped some commands.
“Huuuuummmmm!”
The blue Energy Output device in the distance started working hard.
Dozens of thin, soft tubes plugged into the girl’s back. Red liquid flowed down the tubes into her as the Energy surged.
Lights dimmed in the Laboratory. Energy Output to other tanks switched off.
Only this girl’s Cultivation Tank got Energy now, staying active.
“Glu-glug!”
The girl’s body shook. A few bubbles rose in the tank’s fluid.
Lei Yaotian stared hard at the girl. He wanted to see if this Saiyan Gene Fusion would work.
Wangcai said he’d bought Genes from many Fantasy Dimension creatures, then reordered them, making this new life perfect. Still, Lei Yaotian worried she couldn’t handle the Saiyan’s wild Gene.
Time passed. The red fluid slowly stopped flowing in. The girl in the tank calmed down, her shaking easing.
But only for seconds. Suddenly, her body started shaking violently again. It got worse and worse.
As she shook, the pale green liquid in the tank started churning wildly.
Now Wangcai looked serious. He watched the girl in the tank just like Lei Yaotian, studying her, before going back to his instruments. He recorded important data.
The situation in the tank alarmed Lei Yaotian more and more. Blood started seeping from the girl’s skin. Her flesh cracked open, only to heal slowly, then crack again. The back-and-forth was awful to see. Lei Yaotian gritted his teeth.
“Good grief, this is way too cruel,” he thought, seeing the girl tremble in pain, eyes squeezed shut.
“Wangcai! Stop it if she can’t take it! This is torment!” Lei Yaotian spun around, shouting at Wangcai who was recording data.
Wangcai looked up, seeing Lei Yaotian’s upset face. His Young Master’s sympathy was kicking in.
“Young Master, the system is fully engaged. The Saiyan Genes are in her body. If I stop it now, all fails. And she dies instantly. You wouldn’t want that, right?”
Hearing this, Lei Yaotian fell silent.
“Young Master, I know you feel pity. But we have to push through,” Wangcai said firmly before returning to his instruments and data.
“I hope you make it,” Lei Yaotian thought, complex emotions swirling. “As a made-life, please don’t hate us. You are still alive.”
If this genetic life looked utterly unlike him, Lei Yaotian might not have cared so much. But Wangcai had made her look so perfect.
That made this hard.
Actually, Lei Yaotian was overthinking. If he was colder, seeing her as just another made-up life, he wouldn’t have felt so conflicted.
But Lei Yaotian was from modern times. He hadn’t become that cold-blooded yet.
If only she’d looked ugly and monstrous…
“Hypocrite,” he cursed himself silently inside.
“Splat!”
Suddenly, the girl’s arm exploded inside the tank. Bright red blood burst out, dyeing the pale green tank crimson.
Lei Yaotian’s heart lurched. A mess of feelings flooded him.
After her arm blew apart, hundreds of tentacle-like things grew from her shoulder! They twisted together, slowly forming new bone and flesh.
Soon, a brand-new arm grew back.
“Amazing,” Lei Yaotian whispered in shock. “What Genes did Wangcai even buy? Self-regeneration?”
Science was truly powerful, he marveled. They’d made something this strong.
As the arm finished growing, her legs and belly also exploded… and grew back. This repeated dozens of times.
Lei Yaotian watched with wide eyes, stunned by the girl fused with dozens of creature Genes.
“Young Master! Young Master! We did it!” Wangcai yelled suddenly from his gear. His voice was loud in the quiet lab.
“What? Already?” Lei Yaotian was stunned. He thought merging the Saiyan Gene would cause some big show.
Like glowing auras. Or heavenly flower petals.
Sadly, none of that happened.
Wangcai saw the girl’s vital signs steady on the machines. He knew it worked.
The tank was red with blood, making it impossible to see clearly. Lei Yaotian leaned in, getting closer.
Just as Lei Yaotian bent forward…
SMACK!
A slender arm covered in sinister dark Runes punched through the tank’s crystalline wall!
It grabbed Lei Yaotian’s collar!
CRUNCH-CRACK-CRACKLE!
Cracks spread across the tank walls instantly. Then it shattered completely! Fluid sloshed across the floor…
“Urk… Urk…” Lei Yaotian choked, face turning purple. The arm’s strength was unnatural.
A girl with dozens of tubes stuck into her body stood there. She pulled Lei Yaotian closer. She peered intently, examining the thing she held.
Lei Yaotian saw clearly: Her eyes had pupils like a cat’s. Or maybe like a dragon’s. It looked incredibly weird to him.
She wrinkled her little nose. She sniffed around his face like an animal catching a scent.
“Ah-pah!” her face suddenly lit up with a sweet smile. She shouted something Lei Yaotian couldn’t understand.
