Chapter 94: The Test

Xiaoyu was now also very curious about this robot that Chen Mo had been testing all morning. This was the first time she got so close to such high technology; she had only seen it in movies before.

“It? It can do everything an ordinary person can do. Once all the data testing is complete, it will be my robot assistant,” Chen Mo said.

“You researched this robot just to let it be your assistant?”

When he was doing research, he needed Ink Girl’s assistance. The speed of his research would be countless times faster. If he got a human assistant, many things could be exposed, so he didn’t have that idea for now. He had no choice but to use a Robot as a substitute.

Ink Girl was the best candidate for this role, which was why he thought of a robot assistant.

“Then you go ahead and find one,” Xiaoyu pouted, her tone carrying a hint of sourness.

“I smell vinegar. Is my Xiaoyu jealous? It’s a bit sour!” Chen Mo teased.

“Who’s jealous?” Xiaoyu seemed to have her thoughts seen through, her face turning slightly red.

“Alright, I’ll stop teasing you. There are too many things in the Laboratory, and many are in a confidential state. I wouldn’t feel at ease with other assistants. While you’re in the Laboratory, you can’t help me with the technical research. So, I wanted a robot assistant. It can handle everything an ordinary person can do, and it can also help me with experiments,” Chen Mo explained with a laugh.

“It’s that amazing?” Xiaoyu said, surprised.

Immediately after, she reached out and touched the Robot’s body; it was still the cold carbon-aluminum alloy, without any warmth. “What’s its name?”

“Its name is Ink Girl, like the ‘ink’ from ink fish. It’s derived from my name; I used a homophone,” Chen Mo said.

This was the first time Chen Mo introduced the existence of Ink Girl.

This Robot was Ink Girl’s first carrier, but not a true carrier in the real sense. It could only be considered Ink Girl’s external tool.

Because it could only receive Ink Girl’s commands and could not run Ink Girl’s programs. However, it was still one of Ink Girl’s avatars.

“Ink Girl? That’s a nice name.”

“Ink Girl, say hello to Xiaoyu,” Chen Mo said.

“Sister Xiaoyu, hello, I am Ink Girl.” As soon as Chen Mo finished speaking, Ink Girl’s childish voice rang out.

“Hello,” Xiaoyu said, slightly surprised, and also greeted the Robot.

Xiaoyu didn’t think about it in terms of the world-controlling Artificial Intelligence from movies. What came to her mind was an upgraded version of a Smart Assistant, and she was very familiar with Smart Assistants too.

“I didn’t teach her that. She learned it herself,” Chen Mo said, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. “Ink Girl is very smart; she can learn on her own. But what Ink Girl said is right; you are beautiful, both inside and out.”

“Is that any way to compliment someone?” Xiaoyu pretended to be annoyed, but there was a thread of sweetness in her heart.

“Brother Mo, that’s so corny!”

“Hahahaha…”

As soon as Ink Girl finished speaking, Xiaoyu laughed, her body shaking with laughter.

This was the first time she heard someone, or rather a Robot, call someone corny. She even wondered if this Ink Girl was actually a person pretending; it was just too clever.

Chen Mo also awkwardly rubbed his nose. He was just saying some sweet nothings and ended up being stabbed in the back by an Artificial Intelligence. From ancient times to the present, he was probably the first person this happened to.

“You even know what ‘corny’ means now?”

“I don’t know the feeling of being corny, but I know that when people hear you say things like that, they describe it as corny.”

Hearing their conversation, Xiaoyu laughed again. The chat function of Smart Assistants was quite flexible, but she found that chatting with Ink Girl felt more like talking to a person rather than a machine.

“Now I’m starting to wonder if you were switched to a ‘scheming’ mode,” Chen Mo said, amused and exasperated.

“There are mode selections?” Xiaoyu asked.

“Yes. When I was researching Ink Girl, I got the inspiration from the silly girl in ‘Magic Phone’. She can switch personality modes. Right now, Ink Girl is in the well-behaved personality mode. There are other personality modes, but I haven’t tried them,” Chen Mo said.

Ever since Ink Girl was created, she had always been in the well-behaved mode. He should try a different personality mode someday for a change of pace.

“Alright, stop messing around. Hurry up with your test. If she really becomes scheming, she might expose all your secrets,” Xiaoyu said, laughing.

“Okay, enough small talk. Ink Girl, start the test now. Take a few steps.”

Chen Mo shifted his focus back to the Robot and began preparing to test its performance. Now, Ink Girl’s performance was the main focus of his work.

As soon as his voice fell, the Robot began to move.

“Go fill the water cup on the table with water.” Chen Mo took the water from Xiaoyu’s hand and gave it to the Robot.

“Bring the water cup to me.”

Instruction after instruction allowed Chen Mo to continuously test the Robot’s performance. Ink Girl understood all these instructions, but to execute them perfectly, it still needed constant practice, learning, and adjustment.

Xiaoyu watched this scene in amazement. Such a sight, she had only seen in futuristic sci-fi movies; she never expected to see it happen right before her eyes.

It was all too shocking. This Robot was exactly like a person. If they filmed this and posted it online, it would probably cause a sensation again.

Xiaoyu sat to the side, quietly watching Chen Mo’s back. She suddenly realized that the future was so close to her.

Chen Mo was fully focused on testing the machine.

The Robot had just been completed, so many things needed adjustments. Fortunately, Ink Girl could imitate, learn, and then automatically adjust, so it adapted very quickly.

Moreover, he also wanted to test how long the Robot could work when constantly operating and computing.

Two hours later, the Robot, which had been active, suddenly stopped its work, slowly walked to the charger, picked up the charging head, and plugged it into its port.

“Ran out of power already?”

“Yes. The battery’s power can only sustain three hours of continuous movement and receiving instructions,” Ink Girl said.

“How long to fully charge?”

“Half an hour.”

“It seems we need two Robots working in shifts, or we need to get a higher capacity battery.”

For Robots, the Arc Reactor from Iron Man was the best Energy source. But that kind of technology was impossible in the short term. Only by obtaining higher-level permissions in the Science and Technology Library in the future could he acquire similar technology.

Chen Mo thought for a moment and finally decided on the first method.

Getting a higher capacity battery would require a lot of effort. Having a few more hours of battery life wasn’t very meaningful for an assistant Robot that would primarily stay inside the Laboratory.

“Okay.” Zhao Min agreed without a second thought, picked up the invitation letter she was holding, and left.
