Chapter 76: Missed?
Chapter 76: Missed?
Not only was Xiaoyu stunned, but even the female clerk at the jewelry store was looking at Chen Mo in surprise. After recovering, the female clerk looked at Xiaoyu with envy.
As a jewelry store clerk, she had seen many wealthy people. The bank card Chen Mo gave her was a special Construction Bank Black Gold Card. People who owned this kind of card were either rich or powerful.
Being proposed to so obviously by a wealthy second-generation heir was something she could only dare to dream about.
“Is there a problem?” Chen Mo looked at the dazed female clerk.
“No problem, please follow me.”
The female clerk quickly left the counter and led the two to the ring counter. This was a big order, and the commission would definitely be substantial. Her salary this month was going to double, the female clerk thought excitedly.
Xiaoyu’s mind was a bit muddled. She only snapped out of it after Chen Mo pulled her to the counter.
“Chen Mo, are you really buying this?” Xiaoyu was a little nervous.
Up until now, she hadn’t given herself to Chen Mo. But for Chen Mo to suddenly buy a ring, it seemed too fast.
“Otherwise?” Chen Mo smiled and looked at the female clerk. “Let us take a look at this pair of rings.”
“Don’t buy it, not yet.” Xiaoyu hurriedly stopped Chen Mo.
Everything was a bit too sudden. Her thought process hadn’t straightened out yet. Tonight, she had just come out with Chen Mo to relax. She hadn’t expected this situation at all.
“What’s wrong?” Chen Mo asked.
Xiaoyu didn’t know how to say it. Normally, something like this should be happy, but it all came too suddenly.
“Can we buy it next time? At least you should give someone a surprise, right?” Xiaoyu, confused for a while, finally managed to utter these words.
Hearing Xiaoyu’s somewhat bewildered words, Chen Mo laughed.
“Isn’t this a surprise now?”
“Who gives surprises like you do?” Xiaoyu didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Since they started dating, Chen Mo hadn’t even given her a single flower. Now he suddenly wanted to give her a ring. She had no mental preparation at all.
“Miss, this ring suits you very well. Would you like to try it on? It’s platinum. Each style of this ring is unique. Your boyfriend dotes on you so much. You’re really lucky.”
The female clerk was getting anxious for Xiaoyu, wishing she could take Xiaoyu’s place. Why wasn’t she so lucky to meet a wealthy second-generation heir who doted on her like that?
She had to persuade Xiaoyu. If Xiaoyu agreed to buy it, her commission would be even higher.
“Let’s not buy it for now.”
“Not needed for now. Let’s check out first,” Chen Mo said.
“Okay.”
The female clerk shot Xiaoyu a look full of envy and jealousy. If it were her, she would agree immediately, but she didn’t have that fate.
After leaving the jewelry store, Xiaoyu held Chen Mo’s arm. Her mind was still a bit muddled. Suddenly thinking of something, her face turned rosy, and she held Chen Mo’s arm even tighter.
“Where to next?” Chen Mo asked.
“You decide.”
“Then let’s go buy clothes. You always buy clothes for me. This time, I’ll pick some for you.”
“Okay.” This time, Xiaoyu didn’t resist.
Chen Mo spent the whole evening accompanying Xiaoyu shopping. Since she rarely had such an opportunity, Xiaoyu also let her mind relax, a sweet smile constantly on her face.
Tonight made her regain the feeling she had when she and Chen Mo first started dating. She also knew that even though life had changed, the person beside her still doted on her the same way. That was enough.
“Are you sure we don’t need to buy that ring?” Chen Mo said on the way back.
“Why are you asking me about this?”
Xiaoyu’s face turned red. Was she supposed to tell Chen Mo not to buy it? That would be like digging a pit for herself. But if they bought it now, she wasn’t prepared yet. Her feelings were very complicated at the moment.
After they finished shopping and returned to the car, they walked by the seaside, strolling like a young couple.
They didn’t leave until late at night.
On the way back, Xiaoyu had already fallen asleep leaning on Chen Mo’s shoulder. Looking at Xiaoyu’s sleeping face, Chen Mo felt a slight ache in his heart.
Xiaoyu had a lot of work recently and must have been very tired. Yet she was still willing to come out with him to relax. After shopping all evening, she was a bit excited earlier and didn’t feel it, but now that they were heading back, she was so tired she fell asleep on his shoulder.
Wang Hai seemed to know Xiaoyu was asleep. He drove very smoothly, with no sense of bumpiness at all.
In Chen Mo’s impression, Wang Hai, who was both a driver and bodyguard, rarely spoke. He never initiated conversation, only answering when Chen Mo asked him something.
“Chairman, we have a car following us,” Wang Hai said calmly, glancing in the rearview mirror just as Chen Mo was thinking about him.
“Following?” Chen Mo frowned.
“Yes, two cars. They’ve been following us all the way back from the Commercial Plaza,” Wang Hai said.
Chen Mo looked back at the cars behind them and indeed saw two vans closely following their car.
Chen Mo took out his phone and typed into the communication interface with Ink Girl to investigate the people following him. With Wang Hai present, it wasn’t convenient for him to speak with Ink Girl, as it could easily expose her.
Soon, Ink Girl sent the information to his phone.
“A professional extortion gang. Two vehicles, eight people.”
Seeing this information, Chen Mo relaxed. If they were specifically targeting him, it would be troublesome. After all, his status was different now. If someone had designs on him, it could be dangerous. But this incident served as a reminder.
“Shake them off,” Chen Mo said.
“Okay.” Wang Hai gradually accelerated, overtook several times, and changed routes directly.
“Wang Hai, what did you do in the military?” Chen Mo asked after losing the trailing vehicles, turning his attention to Wang Hai. Wang Hai had been with him for so long but rarely spoke. Chen Mo didn’t know much about him.
“Ordinary soldier,” Wang Hai said.
Chen Mo didn’t believe this answer at all. Wang Hai had gunshot wounds and some knife scars on his wrist. These kinds of injuries weren’t something an ordinary soldier should have. But since Wang Hai didn’t want to say, Chen Mo didn’t press further. With Ink Girl around, he could look it up himself later.
He hadn’t cared about Wang Hai’s identity before, but now it piqued his interest a little.
Soon, Wang Hai drove them back to the villa. The car stopped, and Chen Mo woke Xiaoyu up.
“I’m going to take a shower first.” After returning to the villa, Xiaoyu put her things away, her face red, and ran into the room.
Watching Xiaoyu’s cheerful demeanor, Chen Mo smiled and shook his head, then casually turned on the TV. After about twenty minutes, there was movement from the room.
Xiaoyu came out holding a hair dryer and handed it directly to him. “Help me dry my hair.”
“Okay.” Chen Mo took the hair dryer.
Xiaoyu seemed a bit reserved tonight. After Chen Mo took the hair dryer, Xiaoyu’s body tensed up, staying completely still. It was completely different from when she usually asked him to help dry her hair.
“Xiaoyu, are you feeling unwell?” Chen Mo asked.
“No, I’m just struggling with something.” Xiaoyu kept her head down, letting Chen Mo dry her hair. Her two hands twisted together holding her nightgown, as if she was making some decision, feeling very conflicted inside.
“Struggling with what? That I didn’t buy the ring?”
“No, not that. Forget it, I’ll stop struggling. We can talk about it later.” Xiaoyu muttered quietly, “It’s your fault for not taking the initiative, dummy. Serves you right.”
“What is it exactly?” Chen Mo didn’t understand and hadn’t thought about other possibilities at all.
“Something good. I wanted to give you a gift, but I changed my mind now,” Xiaoyu said with a light hum.
“Don’t change your mind. What gift?”
“We’ll talk about it later.”
Xiaoyu smiled, got up from the sofa, and swaggered back to the bedroom. Watching Xiaoyu’s retreating figure, Chen Mo thought about it but still didn’t know what he had missed.
Early the next morning, Chen Mo and Xiaoyu arrived at the company and went straight into the Office. They were followed by an extortion gang last night, but Wang Hai’s keen observation skills made him a bit curious about Wang Hai’s identity.
“Ink Girl.” Chen Mo sat in front of the computer and said.
“Brother Mo, Ink Girl is here.”
“Help me check Wang Hai’s information.”
