Chapter 50: Xiaoyu Joins the Company
Chapter 50: Xiaoyu Joins the Company
Xiaoyu sat on the sofa, her eyes fixed on the variety show playing on her laptop. She let Chen Mo blow-dry her hair for her, a sweet smile on her face.
“This surprise today was a bit big. When did you start planning it?” Chen Mo asked as he dried Xiaoyu’s hair.
“It was when I first said I wanted to give you a surprise. But since you tricked me into coming back then, I decided to delay it. That’s what you get for not being honest,” Xiaoyu said with a light snort, wrinkling her nose.
“What if I trick you again in the future?” Chen Mo asked.
“You wouldn’t dare! If you dare trick me, I’ll move out and live with Ruoxi, and you can wash your own stinky socks,” Xiaoyu said with a laugh.
“That serious? Can we switch to another way?”
“No way. If I don’t teach you a lesson, you’ll bully me later,” Xiaoyu said.
After drying Xiaoyu’s hair, Chen Mo put the hair dryer away and sat back on the sofa, holding Xiaoyu in his arms.
“I have work tomorrow. Tonight…” Xiaoyu nestled in Chen Mo’s embrace, her gaze shy.
“No rush. You’ll be mine sooner or later anyway. Whenever you’re mentally ready, just tell me,” Chen Mo said.
“Shameless. Who said I’m yours?” A faint smile hung on Xiaoyu’s lips.
“Ever since I made you fall for me at the library, you were destined never to escape my grasp.”
…
The night passed without incident. The next morning, Xiaoyu had already prepared breakfast. After eating, Chen Mo went to the shop, and Xiaoyu headed to the company.
“Xiaoyu, you’re so lucky even I’m a little jealous,” Li Ruoxi said, walking shoulder to shoulder with Xiaoyu into the company. “You just got here and the President already noticed you. You’re the President’s assistant right away—it’s a position countless people dream of.”
“I don’t know why either,” Xiaoyu said. “I’m a little worried now, since I don’t have any experience in this area.”
“Do your best. Everything goes from unfamiliar to familiar. When you make it big later, just remember your best friend who once shared a bed with you,” Li Ruoxi said with a laugh. “We part ways here. Good luck with your work.”
“Okay.”
Xiaoyu looked around and headed toward Zhao Min’s office. Once inside, Xiaoyu suddenly felt nervous. It was her first day, and she had heard that General Manager Zhao had a very strong personality.
“General Manager Zhao.”
Zhao Min looked up and studied Xiaoyu carefully.
Xiaoyu was very pretty. Though not stunningly beautiful, her gentle yet wild temperament was very unique and eye-catching.
“Sit down,” Zhao Min said with a smile. “You’re He Xiaoyu, right?”
“Yes, the ‘yu’ as in ‘fisherwoman’,” Xiaoyu nodded.
“A nice name. From now on, I’ll call you Xiaoyu. You don’t need to call me General Manager Zhao—that makes me sound old. Call me Sister Zhao or Sister Min.”
Xiaoyu froze for a moment, not reacting right away, and blinked as she looked at Zhao Min. Anyone could sense that Zhao Min seemed a bit different toward her.
“Sister Zhao,” Xiaoyu called out, though she was full of confusion inside.
“Mhm. Did Minister Li tell you about the specific tasks yesterday? It’s your first day today. If you don’t understand anything, just ask. Also, here’s some company information—read through it, and if you don’t understand, ask me directly.”
Seeing that Zhao Min wasn’t as stern as she had imagined, Xiaoyu secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
If the General Manager was a tough, hard-to-handle woman, her future days would be difficult. But now, seeing Zhao Min, her anxious heart settled.
“Okay, Sister Zhao.” Xiaoyu took the folder Zhao Min handed her and left the office.
…
Chen Mo sat in the shop, wearing headphones as he directed Ink Girl in drawing the design for the phone case. With four computers working at once, he wished he had four mouths.
“Ink Girl, change the third colored pattern on the butterfly eye in the drawing to a blue gradient. The center pupil is where the camera is—change the surrounding lines to black…”
Ink Girl worked quickly, but he couldn’t keep up with giving instructions. Also, the colored patterns being made were somewhat different from the ones he saw in the Science and Technology Library.
Relying on his strong memory, he recalled the appearance of the Butterfly Eye pattern and described it, completing a preliminary version of the design.
If there was even a slight flaw in the Butterfly Eye’s colored patterns, it would completely ruin the aesthetic. So after the pattern was initially done, many areas required him to modify them by hand.
Two hours later, Chen Mo slumped into his chair.
To him now, designing the phone exterior was even harder than designing the phone’s motherboard.
With Ink Girl’s help, designing the motherboard only required him to name the components and explain the connections—Ink Girl could finish it immediately. But the Butterfly Eye’s exterior design, its colors and lines, weren’t like the simple component connections on a circuit board.
Two hours to complete four exterior designs—fully copying the Butterfly Eye pattern appearance from the Science and Technology Library, and with Ink Girl’s help—this speed wasn’t slow.
“Ink Girl, send the phone exterior and motherboard design files to the company President, Zhao Min,” Chen Mo said.
“Okay, Brother Mo. The email has been sent successfully,” Ink Girl’s childish voice sounded as soon as Chen Mo finished speaking.
Shortly after, Chen Mo’s phone rang.
“Answer,” Chen Mo said.
“Connected,” Ink Girl said.
“Chairman, I received the email. I really want to open up your head and see what it’s made of. With such strong artistic talent, it’s a shame you’re not an artist,” Zhao Min’s voice came through as soon as the call connected.
“I don’t do art stuff. Don’t make a fuss—these are just four designs. I have a few more in mind. I’ll design and send them to you when I have time later, to save trouble.”
“Okay,” Zhao Min said.
“How is Xiaoyu doing?”
“She just arrived at the company and is getting familiar with things. Worried already after such a short time? Why don’t you come to the company?” Zhao Min teased.
“I’ll go after the lab is done,” Chen Mo said.
“Won’t she find out your identity then? Aren’t you afraid she’ll chop you up when she finds out?” Zhao Min laughed.
“We’ll cross that bridge when we get there. It’s not like I’m hiding it forever,” Chen Mo said.
After hanging up, Chen Mo turned his attention back to the computer.
“Ink Girl, embed the phone Smart Assistant into the Army Ant System.”
The most important feature of the phone to be released was the phone Smart Assistant.
Currently, no phone on the market could achieve complete hands-free control. Once the Butterfly Eye equipped with the phone Smart Assistant appeared on the market, it would cause a second sensation.
“Okay, Ink Girl received.”
As soon as Ink Girl’s childish voice faded, the code editor opened on the computer, and lines of code streamed across the screen like flowing water.
“Brother Mo, Ink Girl has completed the embedding.”
“Change my phone’s system to the Army Ant System with the embedded Smart Assistant,” Chen Mo said.
“Brother Mo, please wait a moment.”
Ink Girl fell silent. Soon, the phone restarted on its own. After booting up again, there was an additional Smart Assistant option in the settings menu.
“Ink Girl, I’m going to test the Smart Assistant now. Temporarily don’t control my phone,” Chen Mo said as he opened the Smart Assistant.
“Okay.”
“Open the browser.”
Ink Girl’s voice fell silent. After voiceprint recognition, Chen Mo spoke.
Five minutes later, after the initial test was done, Chen Mo let out a sigh of relief. He sent the Smart Assistant’s Source Code, documentation, and the Army Ant System with the embedded assistant to Zhao Min.
