Chapter 47: Xiaoyu’s Surprise?
Chapter 47: Xiaoyu’s Surprise?
That afternoon.
Chen Mo opened the door of his rented apartment, put down his luggage, glanced around the place, and then rolled up his sleeves to start cleaning.
An hour later, Chen Mo put away the mop and cloth, lay straight on the bed. He had returned to Binhai City, and from now on, he couldn’t relax as much as he did at home. After a while, he got up from the bed and opened his work computer.
“Ink Girl.” Chen Mo turned on the computer’s microphone and called out.
“Brother Mo, Ink Girl is here.” The computer desktop quickly changed to an audio interface, and a young voice came from the speakers.
“What have you learned?” Chen Mo asked.
“I learned a lot of things. It seems like I know everything,” Ink Girl said.
“Can you control my phone?”
“Yes, I can control anything that can be controlled over the network. But I need Brother Mo’s command,” Ink Girl said in her young voice.
This sentence sent a chill down Chen Mo’s back. Ink Girl could control anything that could be controlled over the internet. Just thinking about it was scary. No wonder many people worried about an Artificial Intelligence crisis. If Artificial Intelligence went out of control, there really was such a danger.
“Then talk to me on my phone.”
Buzz buzz buzz…
As soon as Chen Mo finished speaking, his phone rang. It was an unknown number.
“Brother Mo.” As soon as Chen Mo answered, he heard Ink Girl’s young voice.
“I meant control my phone, not call me.”
“Brother Mo’s previous command was to talk to Brother Mo on the phone, not to control it. To control the phone, Ink Girl needs to modify the phone’s system. Is Brother Mo willing to let Ink Girl modify the phone system?”
“Okay, go ahead and modify it.”
“Ink Girl received the command. Modifying the phone system will take one minute.”
As soon as Ink Girl’s voice fell, the phone became quiet. After a minute, an audio interface popped up on the phone, similar in style to the one on the computer.
“Brother Mo, the phone system modification is complete. It will now shut down and restart.”
“Open WeChat.” “Open Squirrel Browser.” … “Close the music player.”
After the phone restarted, Chen Mo gave Ink Girl several commands one after another, all of which were completed. His phone was now a truly smart phone, and it felt pretty good.
“Contact Xiaoyu.”
“By phone or WeChat?” Ink Girl asked.
“Phone.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the phone showed the interface for calling Xiaoyu. Soon, the call connected.
“Chen Mo, have you arrived at school?” Xiaoyu’s gentle voice came from the phone.
“I just got here today.”
“Then I’ll send the surprise to you tomorrow.”
“What exactly is the surprise? Why all the mystery?” Chen Mo asked.
“I’m not telling you for now,” Xiaoyu laughed.
“Alright, I’ll see what it is when it arrives. Has anything interesting happened recently?” Chen Mo asked.
“Yes, there’s one thing that’s especially fun. But I’m not telling you yet. I’ll tell you later,” Xiaoyu’s pleasant laughter came through the phone.
“Is it that happy of a thing?” Hearing Xiaoyu’s laughter, Chen Mo’s mood also improved.
“Of course, I’ll tell you later,” Xiaoyu said. “I have something to do, so I’ll hang up now. Remember to be at your rented apartment tomorrow to receive my surprise.”
“Okay.”
After hanging up, Chen Mo turned his attention to the computer: “Ink Girl, come help me organize the information on the Carbon Crystal-Based Lithium-Ion Battery. I’ll speak, you take notes.”
“Okay.”
…
The next day, Chen Mo left his rented apartment early, carrying his computer bag, and headed to the company.
Although he didn’t participate in the company’s daily management, the company was still his. He usually paid little attention to it, but now that he was back, he felt it was necessary to go.
Besides, he also wanted to see how the construction of the laboratory he needed was progressing.
He now needed a complete set of experimental equipment to synthesize Carbon Crystal.
This Carbon Crystal was a micro-crystalline form of carbon that formed when graphite was subjected to high pressure over a certain period. Therefore, professional equipment was essential. His shop had no physics or chemistry-related equipment at all.
After arriving at the company, led by the receptionist, Chen Mo entered Zhao Min’s office.
“Finished with your holiday? Mr. Chairman.”
After Chen Mo entered, Zhao Min put down the documents in her hand, rubbed her temples, and went to sit on the sofa.
“This New Year, the sales of Butterfly Eye were pretty good. The company is slowly stabilizing now. The construction of the headquarters has also been put on the agenda. We’ve already hired people to design it. I believe the plans will be ready soon.”
“Take me to see my Laboratory,” Chen Mo said. “Now that I’m back, I need to start researching the battery.”
“Okay.”
Zhao Min stood up from her seat, and the two walked side by side out of the office.
As soon as they appeared, they immediately caught the attention of everyone in the office. Zhao Min was the company’s General Manager. There were probably very few people in the company who could walk side by side with General Manager Zhao, especially someone dressed in ordinary jeans and a T-shirt.
Could he be General Manager Zhao’s boyfriend? Those who saw them walking together had the same thought.
Ignoring the stares, Zhao Min led Chen Mo to the elevator and they went up to the next floor.
“During the New Year period, we were delayed for a few days. Now the Laboratory construction is nearly finished, but some equipment hasn’t arrived yet.”
Zhao Min started showing Chen Mo around the Laboratory. Soon, Old Luo hurried over.
“Old Luo, this is the Chairman you’ve been wanting to meet. This is Old Luo, the current head of the R&D department. I’ve put their technical team in charge of the Laboratory equipment installation and debugging.”
“Hello, Chairman.”
Old Luo quickly greeted Chen Mo, feeling very surprised inside. Chen Mo rarely appeared at the company. Even when he did, he usually met with Zhao Min alone. Old Luo was busy with research, so this was his first time seeing Chairman Chen Mo.
He had heard from Zhao Min that the Chairman was young, but seeing him now, he seemed incredibly young.
Was this the creator of the Army Ant System? If Zhao Min hadn’t introduced him personally, Old Luo would never have believed this was the legendary Chairman.
“Hello.” Chen Mo shook hands with Old Luo. “How much longer until the Laboratory is completed?”
“Because of the New Year, the workers had time off, so we were delayed those few days. Now, it will take at most five more days to finish,” Old Luo said.
“Is this area free of other staff?” Chen Mo asked.
“No, this area is your Laboratory. It’s a restricted zone, and entry requires identity verification. Next door is the server room. This is the physics lab, this is the chemistry lab, and over by the window is your daily Office,” Zhao Min explained as they walked.
After touring the Laboratory, Chen Mo nodded in satisfaction. They had put a lot of thought into this Laboratory.
“Replace the computer in my Office. Old Luo, have your people assemble ten computers with the highest current specifications and place them in the Laboratory and Office.”
“With the highest current specs, the price will probably be over 50,000 each,” Old Luo said.
“That’s fine. Money isn’t a problem.”
Last night, he had Ink Girl help him organize the Carbon Crystal data. As a result, after Ink Girl ran for less than half an hour, the computer got extremely hot and almost burned out. He would definitely need Ink Girl’s help for many things in the future. If he used ordinary computers, they wouldn’t be able to support Ink Girl running for long.
After briefly catching up on company matters, Chen Mo left the company with his backpack. He would come back in five days to take over the Laboratory.
On his way back, his phone suddenly rang. Seeing it was Xiaoyu’s number, Chen Mo smiled.
“Xiaoyu.”
“Chen Mo, where are you? The surprise I sent you has arrived. Hurry back to sign for it.”
“So fast?”
“Yes. Get back within half an hour to sign for it, or it’ll be gone. No more surprises later.”
“Alright, I’m on my way back.”
Chen Mo hung up the phone, hailed a taxi by the roadside, and rushed back to his rented apartment. Xiaoyu had been keeping him in suspense, talking about sending him a surprise, making him really curious to see what this surprise actually was.
