Chapter 42: Meeting?
Chapter 42: Meeting?
Seeing Chen Mo holding Xiaoyu, the scene turned out safe, and applause immediately rang out.
The bride Qianqian saw it was Chen Mo and Xiaoyu, and immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
This was an accident. Luckily, Xiaoyu was caught by Chen Mo; otherwise, if she had really fallen in front of everyone, the situation would have been very embarrassing.
After thinking for a moment, Qianqian hurriedly grabbed the host’s microphone.
“The hero should kiss the beauty.”
At that moment, Xiaoyu was holding the flower bouquet and also in Chen Mo’s arms. Combined with the bride’s words, cheers immediately erupted on the scene.
“Kiss her,” “Kiss her.”
Xiaoyu’s face instantly turned bright red, and she stared straight at Chen Mo. “Not here.”
Only Chen Mo could hear her words, but everyone’s eyes were on them at that moment.
“No… mmm… mmm.”
The venue was immediately filled with cheers and applause, and the atmosphere became very lively.
Until the wedding ended, Xiaoyu followed Chen Mo as they left, her face still flushed. Thinking about what had just happened made her feel embarrassed; even she hadn’t expected something like that to occur.
“Were you doing that on purpose just now?” Xiaoyu held onto Chen Mo’s arm, her gaze slightly unfriendly.
“Your falling wasn’t my fault. If I hadn’t caught you, and you fell in front of so many people, wouldn’t that have been mortifying?” Chen Mo laughed.
“I meant you kissing me.”
When Xiaoyu said this, there was still shyness on her face. Given their relationship, kissing was normal, but with so many people watching this time, she felt very uncomfortable.
“The bride knew about our relationship, which is why she said that to ease the awkwardness of the situation. Plus, the atmosphere was so lively, and it was a festive day today—I didn’t want to spoil the mood either.”
“You bad guy.”
In response to Chen Mo’s explanation, Xiaoyu snorted lightly, feeling that what he said made some sense.
After seeing Xiaoyu home, Chen Mo looked around. This seemed to be the residential area where his aunt lived.
Should he go up to his aunt’s place for a while?
But then he remembered that his aunt wanted to introduce a girl to him, and Chen Mo immediately dismissed the thought. He wasn’t so unfortunate as to need a blind date, and he already had Xiaoyu. If he refused directly later, it would be hard to explain to his aunt. So, for a while now, his aunt’s home had been off-limits.
“Xiaoyu, did everything go smoothly at the wedding today?” As soon as Xiaoyu walked in, Shao Zhen, who was watching TV, asked.
“Pretty smoothly. There were quite a few old classmates I hadn’t seen in years. What about Uncle Zhang?” Xiaoyu put down her bag and sat on the sofa.
“He went out to have drinks with friends. Have you started your internship?” Shao Zhen asked.
“It’ll start after the New Year,” Xiaoyu nodded.
“What will you be doing? And where?”
“I was hired by a good company. I’ll probably work in the Finance Department, but the specifics will depend on the assignment. It’s in Binhai City,” Xiaoyu replied truthfully.
“Binhai University, right? What a coincidence—I have a nephew who also goes to Binhai University. He happens to be in the same year as you and is also in Binhai City. Should I introduce you two? That way, if you run into any difficulties with work or life over there, you can look out for each other.”
“Is that so?” Xiaoyu thought wryly to herself.
How could she refuse? Aunt Zhen was only suggesting introducing someone so they could help each other out later—not saying they had to do anything specific. Her kind intentions made it impossible to decline.
“Since it’s Aunt Zhen’s nephew and he’s also a classmate, it’s fine to get to know him,” Xiaoyu reluctantly agreed.
“Okay, then I’ll have him come over tomorrow.”
…
“Mo, tomorrow help me deliver some pastries to your aunt’s house.” As soon as Chen Mo walked through the door, his mom called out to him.
“Seriously?”
Chen Mo knew what his mom was planning. With her asking him to deliver something, how could he refuse? Countless methods flashed through Chen Mo’s mind, but ultimately, he dismissed them all.
“Are you refusing to help now?”
“Alright, I’ll go.” Chen Mo immediately gave in.
Early the next morning, Chen Mo was woken up, given some rice cakes, and practically shoved out the door by his mom. Before he left, she still reminded him to wear something nice.
When he reached his aunt’s door, Chen Mo thought for a moment and called Xiaoyu.
At that time, Xiaoyu was sitting on the sofa in the living room with Aunt Zhen, watching TV. When her phone rang, it was like grabbing a lifeline.
“Aunt Zhen, I need to take this call.”
After saying that, she went into the room.
“Xiaoyu, call me in two minutes—it’s an emergency,” Chen Mo said as soon as the call connected.
“What happened?” Xiaoyu asked, puzzled.
“I’ll explain when there’s a chance. Remember, two minutes. I’m hanging up now.”
After ending the call, Chen Mo went up to his aunt’s door and knocked. Soon, the door opened, and the first thing Chen Mo saw was his aunt’s smiling face.
“Aunt Zhen, Mom asked me to bring you some pastries that Xinxin likes.”
“Come in quickly.”
Aunt Zhen took the pastry box from him and pulled him inside.
“Aunt Zhen, is Xinxin back?” Chen Mo sat on the sofa and turned his phone volume to the maximum.
“No, but a young niece is here. She just went into the room; she’ll be out in a moment.”
Xiaoyu, who was about to leave the room, paused when she heard someone come in. She pressed her ear to the door, listening to what was happening outside.
Suddenly, Xiaoyu blinked—the voice sounded familiar. She gently opened the door a crack and saw Chen Mo sitting on the sofa. She stood there, stunned.
Then, as if remembering something, Xiaoyu started smiling happily. She even climbed onto the bed, burying her face in the blanket and laughing uncontrollably.
Aunt Zhen’s nephew from Binhai University was Chen Mo.
She suddenly understood why Chen Mo had contacted her earlier and asked her to call him in two minutes. So he also knew what was about to happen and wanted to use the call as an excuse to escape.
But Chen Mo didn’t know that the person he was about to meet was her.
Xiaoyu laughed heartily—what a coincidence! This jerk said she would get dragged into a blind date if she went home, but here he was getting dragged into one too. Thinking about Chen Mo’s awkward predicament made her want to laugh.
After getting up from the bed, Xiaoyu sat at the dressing table, watching the time on her phone and smiling happily. She wanted to see what excuse he would come up with to escape if she didn’t call him.
“I’ll call her out so you two can meet. You’re both young, and she also studies and works in Binhai City,” Aunt Zhen said before heading into the room.
“Xiaoyu, my nephew is here. Why don’t you come out and chat with him?”
“Aunt Zhen, um, I need to put on some makeup and change clothes. I’m dressed too casually like this; it’s not good,” Xiaoyu said with a smile.
“Oh, of course.” Hearing Xiaoyu’s reply, Aunt Zhen immediately beamed.
After Aunt Zhen left, Xiaoyu couldn’t help but laugh and called Chen Mo.
In the living room, Chen Mo was feeling uneasy, completely lacking his usual calm. He was praying that Xiaoyu would call soon; otherwise, once the other person came out, the situation would be awkward.
“She’s putting on makeup and changing clothes. Watch some TV; it’ll just be a few minutes.”
“Okay.” Chen Mo’s smile was a bit forced.
Suddenly, his phone rang, making Chen Mo perk up. He hurriedly answered.
“Hey, Chen Mo, where are you?”
“What? At the hospital? I’m on my way. Wait for me.” Chen Mo turned to Aunt Zhen and said, “Aunt Zhen, my friend had an emergency and is at the hospital. I need to go right now. I’ll visit another time. Goodbye, Aunt Zhen.”
With that, he rushed out with his phone, looking extremely anxious, which left Aunt Zhen bewildered. Not only Aunt Zhen, but even Xiaoyu on the other end of the phone was stunned.
“Xiaoyu, I’m at the place where I dropped you off last night. Come down, and let’s go hang out.”
After escaping from Aunt Zhen’s house, Chen Mo finally relaxed and wiped the sweat from his brow.
Meanwhile, Xiaoyu was trying hard not to laugh, barely holding it in.
“Okay.”
After hanging up, Xiaoyu changed her clothes, tidied up a bit, and then walked out of the room. As soon as she stepped out, she saw Aunt Zhen, who didn’t look very happy.
“Xiaoyu, my nephew had an emergency and just left. I’ll introduce you next time.”
“It’s fine, Aunt Zhen. Can you give me his contact info? I’ll reach out to him.”
“Oh, of course, of course.” Aunt Zhen immediately brightened up. “This is his phone number. His name is Chen Mo. And here’s a photo of him.”
“He’s quite handsome. I’ll definitely have to meet him next time.” Seeing Chen Mo’s photo, Xiaoyu smiled.
“He’s a good kid, same school as you, and building his career in Binhai City. You two should stay in touch and look out for each other.”
“Since he had an emergency and I also made plans with a friend, I’ll head out too.”
After saying goodbye to Aunt Zhen, Xiaoyu left. When she saw Chen Mo, she couldn’t stop laughing. Remembering how he had fled earlier made her crack up.
“What’s so funny?” Chen Mo asked.
“Do you believe in fate?” Xiaoyu linked arms with Chen Mo as they walked toward the street.
“Of course I do. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have met you,” Chen Mo said.
“Right, it really is fated.”
Thinking back to what had just happened, Xiaoyu started laughing again.
