Chapter 166: Thank You
Chapter 166: Thank You
Jiangnan Grand Hotel.
Lan Xin looked up at the luxurious hotel and was secretly amazed. Staying here for one night, even the cheapest room cost over a thousand. Did the employees of Legion Ant Company really spend this lavishly on business trips?
But now was not the time to think about these things. They had sought technical help from Legion Ant Company and originally planned to send someone to Binhai City. Instead, the people from Legion Ant Company came in person. It had to be said that Legion Ant Company’s way of doing things was truly different from others.
Before long, Lan Xin saw four people walking toward her. After getting a clear look at the newcomers, an expression of disbelief flashed across Lan Xin’s face.
Chen Mo, the big boss of Legion Ant Company, and his legendary girlfriend, He Xiaoyu. She never expected that the people Legion Ant Company mentioned would be their big boss.
Did Jiangnan City Bureau really have that much influence to invite the big boss of Legion Ant Company?
In just an instant, Lan Xin shook off that thought.
Even the top official in Jiangnan City might not necessarily have the ability to invite the big boss of Legion Ant Company.
“Hello, are you here to pick me up?”
Chen Mo stopped in front of Lan Xin, smiling.
“Oh, yes.” Lan Xin quickly nodded. “Mr. Chen, please get in the car.”
Chen Mo nodded and got into the car. Xiaoyu followed closely behind and sat next to him. It was a medium-sized business vehicle, so with four people plus Lan Xin, it wasn’t crowded.
“How is the virus situation now?” Chen Mo asked.
“The spread has slowed down a lot, but it’s still spreading. No antivirus software can detect or remove this virus yet. None of us are proficient in the Chinese Character Programming Language, so we’re a bit helpless against this virus.” Lan Xin didn’t hide anything.
“Hmm.”
Chen Mo wasn’t surprised. He had Ink Girl stop the virus from spreading wildly but didn’t completely halt its transmission. He only prevented it from infecting places like hospitals, banks, and government offices. As long as government departments and national security weren’t affected, the charges wouldn’t be too severe.
The semi-intelligent virus that Ink Girl mentioned was different from current computer viruses. This virus could spread automatically through the network, and current firewalls were useless against it.
If you compared a firewall to a wall, this semi-intelligent virus was like a living insect that could easily find a hole and slip inside. If not for Ink Girl’s intervention, this insect would have infected all the computers in Jiangnan City.
He could have killed this insect, but he didn’t.
This was a perfect opportunity to promote the Chinese Character Programming Language—more effective than any advertising by Legion Ant Company.
It took about twenty minutes for the car to finally enter the Public Security Bureau.
As soon as he got out of the car, Chen Mo saw a man with an authoritative appearance. Judging by his police badge number, he was the top official in the bureau.
When Gan Cheng saw Chen Mo, he immediately came forward. Legion Ant Company only said that someone was already in Jiangnan City and didn’t mention it was the big boss of Legion Ant Company.
If Lan Xin hadn’t sent a message back, he wouldn’t have known that the big boss of Legion Ant Company had come in person.
“Mr. Chen, it’s really great that you could come in person,” Gan Cheng said as he approached, shaking Chen Mo’s hand.
“Hello, Chief,” Chen Mo replied with a smile.
“This virus is troubling us. It’s spreading in society, and it’s a bit troublesome,” Gan Cheng said.
“Can you take me to see the girl first?” Chen Mo asked.
“Of course,” Gan Cheng immediately nodded and led Chen Mo into the bureau. “The girl’s name is Lin Shu. She’s a senior at Jiangnan No. 1 High School.”
Lin Shu looked pale and weary. She didn’t know what to do now. Last time, she saw her grandfather crying in front of her, and she felt anxious and helpless. Her grandfather was already old, and if she really ended up committing a crime, she was worried he wouldn’t be able to handle the shock.
Sitting in the room, Lin Shu bit her lip, her eyes unfocused. After a while, the door opened, and she instinctively looked toward it.
Three people entered—two men and one woman. After clearly seeing their faces, Lin Shu froze.
She wasn’t unfamiliar with this face. Chen Mo, the big boss of Legion Ant Company, the creator of the Chinese Character Programming Language, hailed as the most talented person in the country.
She wondered if she was hallucinating, fantasizing that a hero would come to save her.
But she was just an ordinary girl. Why would someone like Chen Mo come to see her? She scoffed at herself inwardly, but her gaze remained fixed on Chen Mo.
“Hello, my name is Chen Mo,” Chen Mo said as he sat down in front of Lin Shu. “Don’t worry, we’re here to help you.”
After Chen Mo spoke, Lin Shu’s previously lifeless eyes slowly lit up.
Was this not a hallucination?
Lin Shu looked at Chen Mo, her gaze somewhat hesitant.
“Hello, my name is Chen Mo,” Chen Mo repeated when he saw Lin Shu didn’t respond.
“H-Hello,” Lin Shu stammered, biting her lip as her eyes reddened. She didn’t know what to say.
“Can you tell me what caused this?” Chen Mo asked.
“I wanted to participate in Legion Ant Company’s computer programming competition and designed an antivirus software using the Chinese Character Programming Language. I don’t know where I went wrong, but it turned into this virus. I didn’t mean to spread it; I really didn’t mean to.” As she spoke, tears of frustration welled up in the corners of her eyes.
“Don’t cry. We’re here to help you,” Xiaoyu said sympathetically, handing Lin Shu a tissue.
“How long have you been learning the Chinese Character Programming Language?” Chen Mo asked.
“I started learning as soon as the Chinese Character Programming Language came out. I studied the textbooks in class, and since I don’t have a computer at home, I usually go to internet cafes to work hourly and practice programming on the cafe computers. I just wanted to join the competition to win prize money for my brother’s treatment. I didn’t mean to do this.”
Chen Mo looked at the middle-aged man wearing gold-rimmed glasses who appeared thin and weak. He was Li Huai, a lawyer from the Legal Department of Legion Ant Company and a seasoned attorney.
“Boss, if technical inexperience or error leads to the destruction of data or applications stored, processed, or transmitted by a computer information system, it does not constitute the crime of sabotaging computer information systems.
She caused the consequences by negligence, not intentional crime, and didn’t gain any benefits from it. She lacks the subjective elements of a crime, so she won’t be in trouble,” Li Huai said, adjusting his glasses.
Upon hearing Li Huai’s words, hope immediately sparked in Lin Shu’s eyes.
“However, it would be best to prove that what she wrote was antivirus software and that a technical error caused this situation. That would make the evidence more favorable,” Li Huai added.
“Hmm,” Chen Mo nodded and looked at Lin Shu. “Did you hear that? Is that what you told the police during the statement?”
Lin Shu nodded firmly, her gaze fixed on Chen Mo’s face, full of hope.
“Then rest assured and wait here. You’ll be out soon,” Chen Mo said with a smile.
“Thank you,” Lin Shu said, looking at Chen Mo gratefully. “I will definitely repay you.”
“You can thank me after you get out. For now, I need to go out and prove your innocence.”
After saying this, Chen Mo stood up and left. Watching Chen Mo’s retreating figure, Lin Shu clenched her fists, tears streaming uncontrollably down her face. “Thank you.”
After leaving the room, Chen Mo turned to Gan Cheng. “Now, let me take a look at the program she wrote.”
As soon as he spoke, Gan Cheng immediately led him into another room. Now that Chen Mo was offering to help, he was more than willing to accept.
