Chapter 136: Social Interaction
Chapter 136: Social Interaction
Wu Bing wore a black evening gown. It wasn’t ornate, just simple and elegant, outlining her curves. Paired with her fair skin, she was a standard beauty.
Wu Bing sat in a corner, holding a glass of orange juice. She coldly watched the groups of three or five people talking and laughing together.
If her uncle hadn’t asked her to come, she definitely would not have attended these exchange events. She instinctively disliked these businessmen who reeked of money.
Only when she saw Chen Mo and Wu Hequan approaching did Wu Bing stand up.
“Uncle.”
Wu Bing showed great respect to Wu Hequan, but from start to finish, she didn’t spare Chen Mo more than a glance.
Her father had already left when her mother was pregnant with her. When she was seven, her mother passed away too. Since childhood, she had been raised by her uncle, so she regarded him as a father.
“Let me introduce you. This is my niece, Wu Bing. She just returned to the country not long ago. She holds dual doctorates in Medicine and Biology from Oxford. She is about to join the Academy of Engineering and become its youngest female Academician.” Wu Hequan said to Chen Mo with a smile.
Chen Mo looked at Wu Bing strangely. What did Academician Wu mean by introducing his niece to him?
“Hello, my name is Chen Mo.”
Wu Bing’s expression was somewhat cold, but out of politeness, Chen Mo still extended his hand.
“Hello.” Wu Bing reached out and shook Chen Mo’s hand, then quickly withdrew hers.
“Talk to Mr. Chen proactively.” Wu Hequan finished speaking close to Wu Bing’s ear, then looked at Chen Mo: “You young people chat, get to know each other better. I’m going to find an old friend.”
If Chen Mo still didn’t understand Wu Hequan’s meaning, then he had lived his life for nothing. That old man was actually pushing him to be introduced to his niece.
After Wu Hequan left, the situation became awkward for a while.
“You probably know what my uncle means, right?” Wu Bing spoke, her tone as cold as ever: “I don’t like rich second generation heirs.”
Chen Mo felt like laughing but couldn’t. He shook his head helplessly: “You haven’t been back in the country for long, have you?” This was the first time Chen Mo had heard someone call him a rich second generation. He wished he were one, but he wasn’t that lucky.
“If you’re thinking of pursuing me, you can give up that idea. I’m not interested in you.”
“I think there might be some misunderstanding here, sorry.” Chen Mo awkwardly rubbed his nose, picked up a juice, and sat down on the sofa.
This woman had probably already formed a preconceived notion, thinking he was some rich second generation trying to chase her.
Although she was somewhat good-looking, compared to his Xiaoyu, her personality was much worse. Initially, he thought since she was Academician Wu’s niece, he should chat and get to know her politely, but this woman seemed a bit arrogant.
To earn dual doctorates from a top university at such a young age, she was indeed much more outstanding than average people. Having some arrogance was normal.
The two of them didn’t speak anymore. At this kind of exchange event, having no one bother him was even better. But things didn’t go as he wished. He had just sat down not long ago when a voice sounded.
“Mr. Chen, what a coincidence.”
A wine-red evening gown outlined a slender waist. Fox-like captivating eyes, fiery red lips, and a dazzling gemstone necklace shimmered under the lights, setting off a snow-white swan neck. Seeing this woman, two words subconsciously popped into Chen Mo’s mind: bombshell.
Chen Mo didn’t have much of a reaction. He glanced at the woman walking over and gave a polite smile.
“Yan Ruyu, very pleased to meet you, Mr. Chen.”
Yan Ruyu glanced at Wu Bing, a smile on her face, and sat down next to Chen Mo, leaning forward slightly. From Chen Mo’s angle, he could clearly see the snow-white curves and the deep cleavage.
“Mr. Chen, sitting here alone? It must be boring. How about we chat?” Yan Ruyu smiled at Chen Mo.
Wu Bing gave Chen Mo a cold look, snorted lightly, stood up, and left.
“Uncle, I’m going home first.” Wu Bing said as she walked up to Wu Hequan.
“Why not chat with Chen Mo a bit longer?” Wu Hequan’s eyes held confusion.
“It’s not suitable, Uncle. You don’t need to introduce me to any more men in the future. I’m not at that stage yet; I can find someone myself.” Wu Bing said.
“Chen Mo is a young man with excellent qualities. I really put my old pride aside to get you this opportunity. You’re not exactly young anymore; how can you manage without someone to take care of you later?” Wu Hequan looked displeased.
“I can take care of myself, please don’t worry.”
Wu Hequan could tell at a glance that it was hopeless. He regarded this little niece as his own daughter. But she was so cold towards outsiders. If this continued, her personal matters would be enough to worry him.
“Uncle, I’ll head back first. I still need to polish my thesis a bit.” Wu Bing said.
“Alright, you go back first.”
Wu Hequan sighed and looked in Chen Mo’s direction.
“Sorry, I need to use the restroom.”
Chen Mo gave Yan Ruyu a polite smile and stood up to leave.
This woman was probably a socialite, the so-called social butterfly. His intuition told him it was best to avoid such women. Besides, apart from Yan Ruyu, there were several other women watching him.
If they caught Chen Mo alone, they would definitely come over. After all, there weren’t many young and accomplished people like him left. If they managed to hook him, was there anything they couldn’t get?
“CEO Chen.” Just after Chen Mo walked out, he ran into Yu Chengnan: “Come sit over here.”
Chen Mo didn’t refuse. Having an acquaintance was better than sitting alone.
“This year there are more people than last year. Do you feel like coming here isn’t very useful?” Yu Chengnan spoke as soon as they sat down.
“Indeed.” Chen Mo neither confirmed nor denied.
“At our level, many things depend on resources and connections. With good connections, many tasks get done with special efficiency. Something that might take you half a month of hard work can be solved by a single word from the right person. That’s the benefit of connections.
In this era, it’s very hard to achieve great things entirely on your own. For a product, you need various channels. Even though it’s the internet age, necessary personal networks and resources are still indispensable. Cooperation is an eternal theme. Of course, your company is the biggest exception.”
The development of Legion Ant Company couldn’t be defined by conventional thinking. It had already broken the norms; they couldn’t understand it either. Yu Chengnan also knew that Chen Mo wouldn’t budge on the Smart Assistant matter, so he wisely didn’t bring it up.
The two of them chatted casually, ignoring everyone else.
When two big shots were talking, others naturally didn’t dare disturb them easily.
Yu Chengnan had a bit of a small humor and occasionally revealed some inside stories about events, which broadened Chen Mo’s knowledge quite a bit.
In other corners, many people were talking and laughing, seeming very happy. After a long while, Yu Chengnan saw someone greeting him, so he apologized to Chen Mo and stood up to leave.
Chen Mo was alone again. The venue was filled with elegant melodies. Waiters carried red wine and juice, weaving among the many well-dressed guests in suits.
Most of the people here were prominent figures from home and abroad, gathered in small groups, chatting cheerfully.
Some socialites and noblewomen, dressed to the nines, moved through the crowd, gracefully approaching any CEO who was alone.
Occasionally, a few socialites gathered together, whispering and occasionally casting heated glances towards Chen Mo. Meanwhile, the young rich second generations focused their gazes on the young, beautiful women at the event.
The exchange event’s program had already started, featuring performances by famous stars. Chen Mo wasn’t very interested, so he just watched quietly.
Noticing the socialites watching him like hawks, Chen Mo picked up a glass of juice and moved towards a remote corner.
There was no one here, and he was happy to have some peace and quiet.
After enduring until the business exchange meeting ended, Chen Mo called Zhu Li and quietly left, hurrying back to the hotel where they were staying.
