Chapter 13: Human Charging
Chapter 13: Human Charging
“Huh…”
Upon hearing “hand it over to the state,” Bai Ge froze.
Thinking carefully, it made sense. This was Danmu, after all. If it were truly the only plant in the world, its value would indeed be immeasurable.
In a certain sense, it would be as precious as finding a biological fossil from hundreds of millions of years ago — hardly something to be bought and sold!
If this Danmu was genuine and one-of-a-kind, it was practically a living fossil. Its significance, in every respect, was astonishingly immense.
Previously, he thought Luo Wendi might doubt the plant’s natural origins, so Bai Ge had mentioned plucking it from Shennongjia. Although the records placed it on Mi Mountain, he’d only ever been to Shennongjia, so he just said that’s where it was.
Turns out he had misunderstood.
Luo Wendi, upon hearing it might be natural, was instead unwilling to buy it.
“Then forget it…”
Thinking this, Bai Ge decided not to sell it after all; he would take it back to study himself.
Just as he reached out to take the flower, he saw Luo Wendi smile and stop him.
“Hey, don’t be hasty. Just because you say it’s real, does that mean it is?”
This sounded a bit like finding fault, deliberately trying to lower the price.
But Bai Ge suddenly realized Luo Wendi’s true intention.
If this flower wasn’t taken to a research institute, it would be hard for him to prove whether it was natural or not.
Since that was the case, proof wasn’t necessary. Regardless of whether it was real or fake, Luo Wendi could still buy it!
Luo Wendi could simply hand it over to the state himself later. Then, he could claim to be the original discoverer.
Put plainly, he was exchanging ten million for a reputation.
Even if it was later proven to be artificially force-cultivated, it wouldn’t matter. Luo Wendi could take it back to admire, or even gift it.
Its appearance alone held value.
Either way, Luo Wendi wouldn’t lose.
Real or fake didn’t matter. If Bai Ge could get ten million, he wouldn’t concern himself with anything else.
Understanding this point, Bai Ge felt tempted by the ten million.
“Suit yourself. Whether it’s natural or not isn’t important. It’s very beautiful, isn’t it?” Bai Ge said.
Hearing this, Luo Wendi knew Bai Ge understood.
He immediately took out a check, wrote ten million, and placed it before Bai Ge.
Bai Ge didn’t take it immediately, though. Instead, he said, “Once I take the money, you discovered this thing. I don’t want any future trouble.”
Chen Song glared at Bai Ge; he’d caught on to what was happening.
Luo Wendi spending ten million wasn’t just for buying the flower; it included hush money, as Luo Wendi was actually the one worried Bai Ge might go around claiming he was the one who picked it.
So, Bai Ge stating this was unnecessary.
But, in reality, they didn’t understand Bai Ge.
Bai Ge realized that this Danmu had likely manifested some special property. If Luo Wendi handed it over to the state, the resulting uproar would likely be significant.
Deep down, Bai Ge actually hoped Luo Wendi would just keep it to admire and treat it as a cultivated ornamental flower.
“If you feel ten million isn’t enough, I can add five hundred thousand more,” Luo Wendi said.
Bai Ge nearly accepted, but he remained calm.
“It’s enough. Ten million is fine. The flower is yours.” he said.
Having finished speaking, he took the check and left.
Luo Wendi watched Bai Ge leave deeply, confusion swirling within him.
“This person seems desperate to sever any connection between himself and this flower.”
“Although that’s precisely what I wanted, he shouldn’t be like this…”
However, Bai Ge remained just a minor figure in his eyes. After pondering for a moment, he stopped caring.
“This flower is too beautiful. Father-in-law will surely love it.”
“I need to rush it to the provincial capital overnight.”
“Whether to hand it over to the Chinese Academy of Sciences will depend on Father-in-law’s opinion first.”
…
Bai Ge walked down the road, preoccupied with his thoughts.
Gaining ten million was undoubtedly exciting. It was a handsome amount of money. With it, he wouldn’t need to work for years.
But the two anomalies surrounding the appearance of the Danmu filled him with doubt.
“Can the mere settings I imagined in my Brain Hole also be acknowledged by Reality?”
“If so, then the function of my Brain Hole is vast.”
“It could almost be said to be… omnipotent!”
Bai Ge felt a complex mix of emotions. These past days, he kept discovering new capabilities of his Brain Hole.
Initially, he thought it was a useless ability, but gradually, the Brain Hole’s uses kept exceeding expectations.
“No, it’s not as great as I thought.”
“Even if I can truly realize the Brain Hole’s settings, I can’t afford the cost.”
“One Danmu made me lose forty pounds. My muscles wasted away significantly. My body couldn’t take it again.”
Seeing it was getting late, Bai Ge suddenly arrived at a clinic.
Shao Yuan Clinic – an extremely ordinary name.
This was the clinic run by his childhood friend… Shao Yuan. It wasn’t far from where Bai Ge lived.
Bai Ge saw there were no customers and immediately lay down on a bed, shouting, “Old Shao, hurry up!”
Shao Yuan looked at him worriedly. “What’s wrong? A headache?”
He still suspected Bai Ge had brain cancer and was asking about headaches.
Bai Ge laughed. “Relax, I don’t have brain cancer. I got checked.”
“Let me see the results,” Shao Yuan demanded.
Bai Ge didn’t have any results; he had inspected himself internally. “Uh, I threw them away a long time ago. Why would I keep them if I was fine?”
Shao Yuan, of course, didn’t believe him, but he was helpless.
“Then what did you come here for?”
Bai Ge smiled and pulled out his phone, ready to transfer a few thousand yuan to Shao Yuan.
He had money now, so he naturally had to repay what he owed his good brother as soon as possible.
Although Bai Ge loved money, he hated owing people. Even when forced to borrow, he repaid it at the fastest possible speed.
Unexpectedly, Shao Yuan shook his head. “Aren’t you trying to make a million? I’m not in a hurry.”
“Hah, it’s fine! I’ve already earned enough!” Bai Ge laughed.
Shao Yuan froze. How much time had passed? Already made a million? Was he trying to fool a ghost?
Shao Yuan said: “Opening your mouth without a single honest word. If you really had a million yuan, I would genuinely advise you to get your brain checked; perhaps there’s still hope.”
Bai Ge laughed and said: “My head really isn’t sick. Forget it, I won’t say more.”
In his heart, he was happy. In just a few days, he had gone from being troubled by a terminal illness to being healthy, with money and superpowers—it was truly a dramatic turn of events.
Shao Yuan shook his head and said: “Look at you, I haven’t seen you for two months and you’ve lost so much weight…”
For others, Bai Ge didn’t seem particularly different, but as his childhood friend, Shao Yuan could tell he had lost too much weight.
Originally, Bai Ge weighed about one hundred fifty jin, but now he only weighed barely over one hundred jin; his body was very thin and wiry…
Bai Ge took out some cash, put down the money, turned his head, and asked: “Okay, I earned this with hard work… Let me ask you something. How can energy be replenished quickly in humans through eating?”
Shao Yuan chuckled: “Eat the most nutritious stuff. Why are you asking this? Wanting to gain weight? Then eat high-calorie foods.”
Bai Ge said: “I want the energy inside my body to be tens of times what it is now. Do you think it’s possible?”
“Impossible,” Shao Yuan said. “Humans store excess energy as fat. Do you want to become dozens of times fatter than you are now? Are you joking with me?”
“Is there really no other way?” Bai Ge sighed morosely.
Shao Yuan rolled his eyes and said: “Stop thinking about it. Energy reserves increasing dozens of times? You’re not an alien! Do you think you can be charged like a battery?”
“Charged?”
Bai Ge thought it over, standing there absent-mindedly. Shao Yuan found it very strange, but considering Bai Ge’s “illness”, he could only sigh.
At this moment, Bai Ge’s consciousness had immersed itself in the Brain Hole.
“For my ability to influence Reality, I needed to provide the energy myself, and even if I turned into a 300-jin fatty, how much energy could I store?”
“Charging. If only humans could truly be charged. Cells storing electrical energy, supplying what the body requires.”
Bai Ge let his mind wander wildly, which prompted Ling Dang to confirm.
“Should we do this? Grant humans the innate ability to store electrical energy in cells…” Ling Dang said.
Bai Ge said: “Can it really be achieved?”
Ling Dang said: “We can lower the requirements step by step…”
Bai Ge’s eyes lit up: “Right!”
Implanting a feature like “cells storing electrical energy” in an Earthling was extremely abnormal and defied common sense.
If the required energy was excessive and exceeded his limit, there would be no reaction; it would simply not be acknowledged by Reality.
But lowering the requirements step by step—for instance, making the feature last only a few days or a few hours—and experimenting gradually could make it possible. Once achieved, it meant that the fantasy feature could be accepted by Reality.
Thinking this, Bai Ge immediately said goodbye to Shao Yuan, wanting to go home to experiment.
However, he quickly thought of something else.
When he took out Danmu, two abnormal things occurred; one was excessive energy consumption.
For this, simply going home to test if he could manifest the fantasy setting would reveal why.
But for the second thing—some mysterious unknown Energy had escaped, yet no disastrous consequences had happened in Reality—it was utterly unbelievable.
“Ling Dang, the escaped energy, why didn’t it destroy the world…”
“Could it be that it also randomly implemented some Brain Hole feature?” Ling Dang spoke calmly: “It’s possible, because the Energy in your body vanished without trace, and the escaped mysterious energy also disappeared strangely; they likely vanished due to something new appearing in the world.”
“That energy, what feature might it have implemented?” Bai Ge asked.
Ling Dang said: “I don’t know…”
“In the Multiverse of your Brain Hole World, there are too many settings different from Reality.”
“If our guess is true, it was probably randomly implemented.”
Hearing this, Bai Ge gazed worriedly at the city, which looked no different than usual.
“Where was that energy used?”
