Chapter 41: Multiple Assessments

“This…”

Lu Xin’s answer left the old professors momentarily speechless.

Fortunately, Chen Jing stepped in to explain, “Data regarding this aspect was clearly observable during his previous encounter with Special Contaminant-041. Given the limited time the professors can spend at Satellite City No.2 and the number of assessments we still have ahead, we should prioritize efficiency. The bullet-dodging test can be skipped…”

The professors had no choice but to agree, each shaking their heads with a sigh.

Lu Xin felt a shiver down his spine. Why did those old men look so regretful?

However, the subsequent assessments quickly captured his full attention.

Before the assessments began, he hadn’t anticipated there would be so many items to test.

After the firearms segment, Lu Xin cooperatively underwent several other evaluations.

These included short-distance speed tests, physical perception assessments, memorization and replication of high-complexity micro-movements, and seemingly impossible tests like Micro-Space Infiltration.

The results of each assessment were exceptionally astonishing.

This astonishing quality, however, applied mainly to Lu Xin himself.

In the 100-meter dash, aided by his Little Sister, Lu Xin ran the distance in five seconds. At that moment, he felt every muscle in his body coordinate perfectly, operating in the most efficient state to complete the sprint.

A portly professor, however, seemed disappointed, shaking his head, “This is your weakness!”

“A cheetah’s top speed can reach three seconds per hundred meters, but that’s just an ordinary animal. Given your ability to precisely control every bone and muscle, you should be capable of unleashing astonishingly rapid bursts of speed, of course…”

“Still, the human body isn’t ideally suited for explosive bursts of short-distance power. You likely need time for personal reflection and adjustment…”

“Previously, Gecko during testing achieved a best result of 3.9 seconds — significantly faster than you…”

“So, how about attempting it crawling? On all fours?”

“……”

Lu Xin remained silent and refused, finally agreeing only to try it someday in the future.

The reason was simple: it was too humiliating!

The portly professor gave a slight shake of his head to express his pity.

During the physical perception tests, while sitting motionless, Lu Xin could accurately describe every object touching his back, detailing its shape, the trajectory of its touch, the force applied, and more. In the high-complexity micro-movement assessment, he could easily perceive intricate and delicate actions and replicate them precisely, thanks to his perfect body control.

The most astonishing for him, however, was the Micro-Space Infiltration assessment.

How could he, standing 175 cm tall and weighing 70 kg, hide within a wooden box only one foot square?

And yet, Gecko managed it easily.

Crucially, with the help of his Little Sister, Lu Xin actually succeeded in hiding inside it too.

While Lu Xin was curled up awkwardly in the tiny space — legs hooked around his neck, chest almost touching his buttocks, head seemingly retracted into his body, arms twisted – his Little Sister, perched somewhere, giggled. “Brother, did you forget? When Father used to hit me, I’d hide inside the room’s ventilation ducts?”

His Little Sister laughed merrily, boasting to Lu Xin that she could achieve an even better position.

Not every test proceeded smoothly, however. In one assessment, an old professor brandished a wickedly sharp knife, gesturing towards Lu Xin as he explained, “Theoretically, Spider-Type Ability Users should be able to contract muscles around a wound after injury, preventing excessive blood loss and even accelerating the healing process…”

“So, if you don’t mind, how about I make a small cut on your arm first?”

“……”

Facing Lu Xin’s stern refusal, the professor reluctantly put away the knife, his expression deeply regretful.

Lu Xin felt very peculiar inside. What was wrong with a researcher being this fervently obsessed with wielding knives?

“……”

During a test for Telekinetic Power, a researcher with raven-black, lush hair, clad in a White Lab Coat, cheekily took a bite out of an apple. He then retreated three or four meters away and addressed Lu Xin, “Every identified Mental Aberrant, theoretically, possesses Telekinetic Power. In fact, once Mental Power exceeds sixty units, it invariably manifests as this ability. It’s a question of its strength.”

“Most Ability Users cannot wield Telekinesis actively; they merely use it to sense other Mental Power signatures or evade attacks!”

“We previously noted signs of your Telekinesis. Come on, focus! Try bringing this apple over…”

“……”

Lu Xin sat in a chair, encircled by watching people.

He sat for quite some time before finally looking up helplessly towards his Little Sister.

“I’m your Little Sister, not your employee…” Little Sister was running about on the ceiling, utterly bored and completely uncooperative. “If you were in real danger, fine. But nothing’s happening! Why should I stupidly help you grab an apple? Now, if you wanted his hairpiece torn off…”

Her eyes lit up as they fixed hungrily on the head of raven-black, lush hair.

In the end, Lu Xin had no choice but to give up once more.

He shot his Little Sister a warning glance not to target the man’s wig, and at the same time, noticed something…

So this professor was bald too…

……

“Would you like to rest for a day? We can continue the remaining assessments tomorrow.”

After completing the battery of ability tests, blood draws, and sample storage, Chen Jing approached Lu Xin with a concerned inquiry.

Lu Xin was slightly taken aback. “What comes next?”

Holding a stack of documents, Chen Jing smiled. “The next phase assesses your potential for developing additional abilities.”

Lu Xin hesitated. “Can we skip those?”

Observing his expression, Chen Jing maintained her smile. “Of course. In that case, you only need to undergo the final assessment.”

Surprisingly, this last assessment turned out to be just a conversation.

A gentle and kindly middle-aged woman in a White Lab Coat spoke with Lu Xin softly for over half an hour.

……

……

“He should qualify for C-grade, right?”

Meanwhile, in another office, the old professors were rapidly collating their data. Their usual benign, smiling expressions were gone; replaced by stern seriousness as they meticulously scrutinized, verified, or calculated the newly acquired data sets. Some grew increasingly grave, while others became flushed with fervor…

After working for a while, the portly, bald elder sighed deeply. “C-grade?”

A bald man in a White Lab Coat repeated the term, chuckling softly. “Measured ability is C-grade… But his potential…”

“What about the psychological assessment?”

As they murmured amongst themselves, a woman in a White Lab Coat, the psychologist, walked in, shuffling through her report file.

The entire office suddenly fell utterly silent.

Everyone looked up at her. Her report seemed to hold far more weight than any other evaluation in the room.

“There’s a significant issue…”

After a pause, the psychologist spoke slowly.

“What issue?”

The tension in the room became palpable.

“He’s too normal!”

It took the psychologist another moment to supply the answer. “Honestly… he seems more normal than me…”
