Chapter 204: Dreamweaver
Chapter 204: Dreamweaver
“I can help you!”
When Lu Xin re-entered the office, he saw Deputy General Manager Xiao restless and fidgety. He was patting his pockets, flipping through the sofa cushions, seemingly searching for his cigarettes.
Without a word, Lu Xin sat down and kindly offered him one of his own cigarettes. He then lit it for him using his Zippo lighter. As Deputy General Manager Xiao looked at him gratefully, Lu Xin calmly stated his decision.
“Ahem…”
Deputy General Manager Xiao immediately started coughing violently, partly because he wasn’t used to the cigarette and partly out of shock.
He forcefully stubbed out the cigarette and, eyes watery and stinging from the smoke, stared at Lu Xin in surprise:
“You can really help me?”
Lu Xin glanced at the cigarette that had been smoked only once and stubbed out, frowned slightly, then nodded.
“Good, good…”
Deputy General Manager Xiao was already overwhelmingly excited. He sprang to his feet, but once standing, had no idea what to do next; his body trembled slightly: “If you can help me, then I… I’ll give you fifty thousand… no, a hundred thousand as reward…”
“Huh?”
Lu Xin’s eyes instantly widened as he stared directly at him.
Deputy General Manager Xiao was inexplicably startled. Feeling guilty, he stammered, “Then… how about a little more?”
Lu Xin felt a wave of excitement inside, mixed with intense regret.
Why had he called Han Bing about this?
But recalling that the call had already been made and Han Bing had helped submit his application, this was now official business.
Official business meant he couldn’t take personal money anymore.
His heart ached as if cut by a knife. He looked at Deputy General Manager Xiao with distinct displeasure, his tone turning sour:
“We have our own principles; we don’t accept money randomly!!!”
Deputy General Manager Xiao was taken aback by his look. Was offering money an offense?
Yes… the young man did possess an aura of someone with extraordinary skills who treated money as something insignificant…
……
……
Suppressing his inner turmoil, Deputy General Manager Xiao collected himself and hurriedly asked, “When?”
Lu Xin, his anger yet to subside, sighed deeply. He stood up and walked towards the office door, saying, “After work.”
Deputy General Manager Xiao nodded repeatedly, but still asked, driven by concern, “Why?”
Lu Xin glanced back at him and said, “Because I need to work.”
Deputy General Manager Xiao watched dumbfoundedly as Lu Xin walked out of the office, returned to his cubicle, picked up the files beside him, and began working diligently. He felt completely dazed. Perhaps because he hadn’t slept well for too long, his brain wasn’t functioning properly.
Lu Xin was an employee beneath him, so he came to work, which meant he was working for him, helping him make money.
But he himself wasn’t short of money; he was willing to spend a lot to solve this most difficult problem.
Lu Xin didn’t care about money, so he couldn’t be swayed by it.
Thus, he had to patiently wait until Lu Xin finished work before he could help him solve his problem…
Something felt off about it, yet the logic seemed to hold…
……
……
For the entire day, Director Liu was unable to return to his own office.
Deputy General Manager Xiao had occupied it, and Director Liu simply didn’t dare go back and compete for the space. Besides occasionally going in to ask if the deputy manager needed anything or how lunch should be arranged, Director Liu could only linger in the main hall area. Since the hall was full with people, he couldn’t find a place to sit. Moreover, with Deputy General Manager Xiao present in the company, Director Liu didn’t dare make an excuse to leave…
And because Director Liu stuck around the office the whole time, the other employees didn’t dare leave casually either.
Their inability to leave meant no extra seats became available in the hall.
Consequently, lacking a spare seat, Director Liu ended up squatting near the restroom for most of the day…
Lunch was boxed takeout meals, paid for by Deputy General Manager Xiao.
He had considered inviting Lu Xin out during lunch, but seeing Lu Xin conscientiously handling work tasks for him, he didn’t dare disturb him. So, he simply instructed Director Liu to order boxed meals for everyone, each with a chicken drumstick…
It was noticeable that Lu Xin’s expression noticeably relaxed upon receiving his boxed meal, which caused Deputy General Manager Xiao to breathe a long sigh of relief.
Laboring through until the end of the workday, Deputy General Manager Xiao watched the minutes and seconds crawl past. When the clock finally struck six, he shot up with a “thud,” rushed the few steps back into the main office area, and fixed Lu Xin with an eager, hopeful gaze.
This look left everyone in the office, including Director Liu whose legs were numb from sitting too long near the restroom, gaping, utterly baffled as to what this meant.
“Lu…”
Deputy General Manager Xiao started to speak but hesitated on the address, letting it slide with a murmur: “Can we have dinner together?”
Lu Xin glanced at the time on his computer screen and said, “I have something to do tonight.”
Deputy General Manager Xiao became extremely anxious: “Then… I… um… How about I give you a ride? I can wait for you?”
Lu Xin thought seriously for a moment and said, “That would be fine.”
Then, before the entire company, he slung a bag over his shoulder and departed with Deputy General Manager Xiao.
“Whoa…”
As they descended the stairs, the entire office erupted.
“What is going on?”
“How did Little Lu do it, frightening Deputy General Manager Xiao like that?”
“My God, he didn’t kidnap the chairman, did he?”
“Did he issue a death warrant for Deputy General Manager Xiao?”
“…Are all of you thinking so darkly? How do I feel that Deputy General Manager Xiao is pursuing him?”
“…”
Only Director Liu watched them descending one after another, pondered quickly in his mind for a moment, and instructed his secretary, “Xiao Wang, call the renovators tomorrow, have that partition wall broken through, and turn it into an office…”
“Forget it, have them come over tonight instead, make the changes overnight…”
“…”
Deputy General Manager Xiao drove Lu Xin to the Guard Bureau, and then Lu Xin walked in.
Watching Lu Xin enter the Guard Bureau as if he were very familiar with it, Deputy General Manager Xiao suddenly had many more speculations about him.
Why had he come to the Guard Bureau?
Could he actually be a special person hired by the Guard Bureau?
Was he here to make arrangements to handle the problem Deputy General Manager Xiao encountered?
Actually, Lu Xin was here for training.
Each evening’s training session included a food subsidy of two hundred, and unless something very important came up, it was best not to miss it.
As for bringing Deputy General Manager Xiao along, there were two reasons.
Normally, Lu Xin shouldn’t let others know about his job at the Special Clean-up Department, not to protect himself, but to protect others.
But since Deputy General Manager Xiao had already encountered this matter, the confidentiality clause was temporarily suspended.
Secondly, letting him return alone risked ensuring that during that time, he might contact his little brother and little sister, leading to more accidental issues.
Having him follow made it easier to handle incidents if they occurred.
…
…
“Tonight, skip one session and focus on learning about the Dreamweaver-type…”
After Lu Xin went upstairs and sat down, he said to Han Bing in the speaker.
“All right, after Mr. Lone Soldier notified me today at noon, I had already prepared the relevant materials.”
From the speaker, Han Bing’s soft voice sounded, while on the screen opposite the conference room, relevant materials appeared.
Upon hearing the word “notified,” Lu Xin sighed uncontrollably again.
His mood dampened somewhat.
Of course, he could not blame Han Bing, but inexplicably, he felt more resentment toward Deputy General Manager Xiao downstairs.
“The Dreamweaver-type is one of the ability systems our Qinggang Special Cleanliness Department has researched deeply. Previously, our department recruited two Dreamweavers. Later, one died on duty, and the other remains in the Main City responsible for cleaning Special Contamination.”
“But we must admit that although the Dreamweaver-type has been studied in detail, Dreamweavers are recognized as the most Aberration-prone and difficult-to-handle Ability Users. Their core ability is to enter others’ dreams and guide their dream experiences. From this core, three abilities extend: Forced Dream Invasion, Dream Realm shuttling, and manipulating dreams.”
“The combined use of these three abilities allows them to achieve many incredible feats.”
“…”
In the midst of Han Bing’s gentle narration, Lu Xin earnestly took notes.
Only occasionally did he sigh softly, seeming a bit down.
“Does Mr. Lone Soldier seem somewhat unhappy today?”
Several sighs caught by Han Bing led her to privately wonder, “Is it because my assistance today wasn’t sufficient?”
Lu Xin, while studying, found one thought continuously surfacing: “One hundred thousand…”
