Chapter 107: Little Sister’s Ability
Chapter 107: Little Sister’s Ability
“Bzzz…”
The instant Lu Xin charged straight towards the face-covered Monster, the atmosphere seemed to become oppressive and dangerous.
The super-secondary Psychic Entity, which moments earlier had only known to doggedly crawl forward and fuse with larger Spiritual Entities to strengthen itself no matter how powerful the attacks it faced, seemed jolted by this anomaly. Its massive form trembled.
Its bloated, swollen body couldn’t turn around. But every single face on its side facing Lu Xin simultaneously snapped wide open its eyes. On the body that appeared squeezed enough to hold hundreds of faces, every countenance filled with terror, then each gaped its mouth wide.
What emerged wasn’t a scream, but rather a chaotic noise like fluorescent lights suffering unstable voltage.
The moment these sounds propagated, the surrounding space seemed to distort like water ripples. Ring-shaped shockwaves pulsed outward in concentric layers. Within the reach of these shockwaves, the corpses littering the ground—those whose Spiritual Entities had already been devoured, leaving behind mindless husks—instantly curled into fetal positions. They looked like compressed springs.
…
…
“What is that…”
The City Patrol Army soldiers, who had already withdrawn from that section of the battlefield and hadn’t dared to even look back, suddenly experienced a shudder deep within themselves.
They turned back in shock, sensing something truly fearful beneath that dark shroud of night over the area.
“Mental Distortion Field…”
Gecko muttered under his breath, his expression grave, none of his usual irreverent smirk visible.
As an Ability User, he could clearly sense an overwhelming tide of Mental Power spreading from the direction of the Southern Wall.
It made his heart race, and he spoke out of his tension: “That Psychic Entity… even though it doesn’t seem to have any frightening Contamination abilities, just a patchwork of spiritual fragments… once its Psychic Magnitude reaches a certain level, that itself is terrifyingly formidable. The sheer act of releasing its Mental Power generates Telekinetic Power. And where Telekinetic Power saturates, it becomes a Mental Distortion Field capable of annihilating everything!”
He wasn’t explaining for their sake; he was talking because he was tense.
He couldn’t help talking when he was nervous.
But neither Tie Cui nor Han Bing had the mind to chide him; they just tensed up alongside him: “A Mental Distortion Field is the most terrifying type of area-of-effect influence. Ordinary people enveloped by it go mad instantly or become idiots. Ability Users engulfed by it… if the gap in Psychic Magnitude between them and the source is too vast… can also be instantly affected, leading to Loss of Control…”
“He better not lose control…” Gecko murmured, his voice low. “I don’t want to have to deal with a Lost of Control teammate again…”
“When you recruited me, you said it was to let me save people, and offered me the freedom to visit ladies of the night without getting arrested…”
“…this wasn’t part of the deal!”
“…”
No one reacted to this unconsciously revealed truth right away.
…
…
Crack! Crack!
After that invisible wave of distorted Mental Power erupted, the two searchlights instantly shattered, plunging everything into darkness.
But as the artificial lights vanished, the glow of the Crimson Moon became startlingly vivid.
It had recently rained, leaving the night sky unusually clear. The Crimson Moon seemed unprecedentedly close to the earth.
Bathed in this lunar light, Lu Xin, lunging forward, met that distorted Psychic Energy Field head-on.
Then he plunged directly through it, a glint of what seemed like disdain flashing across his face.
Within a field that could presumably warp steel and twist every human thought, he himself seemed to distort even more chaotically than the field. This rendered the Psychic Radiation released by the monstrous Psychic Entity utterly incapable of affecting him. It didn’t even slow his forward charge. His figure pressed upstream against the psychic current, flowing with an eerie grace straight up to the face-covered Monster.
Then, he raised both hands and aimed them at the spine of the face-covered Monster.
Previously, when Lu Xin had tried to eliminate the Monster, he had ripped off many parts of it, but it had been useless.
The Monster could immediately devour more Spiritual Entities to fill the gaps.
This time, Lu Xin wasn’t tearing at it. He simply leaned close.
He reached out with both hands to touch it.
…
…
Chk-chk-chk…
As Lu Xin’s hands approached, the faces studding the Monster’s hide began snapping their jaws wide open simultaneously. Each mouth stretched open to its absolute limit, generating strange, taut sounds like stressed cords of leather. Those maw-like holes seemed intent on biting his hands.
But Lu Xin’s speed was clearly faster than these faces.
His hands flickered across the surface, gliding from one face down to another.
And then, these faces… suddenly switched places.
Some swapped positions with adjacent faces.
On others, features like the nose and mouth traded locations on the same visage.
This turned the already twisted and frantic Monster into something jarringly dissonant—at least on the part Lu Xin had touched. It became a patch of fundamental incoherence, like a perfectly ordered whole suddenly experiencing localized Chaos.
The enormous face-covered Monster began to writhe. Countless faces pushed forward against its own surface like grinding gears, causing it to slither forward like a serpent.
When injured, it instinctively consumed more Spiritual Entities to replenish itself.
As for the wounds inflicted by Lu Xin, it didn’t care at all—it could simply discard those parts.
After all, its greatest advantage was the abundance of Spiritual Entities it could devour, rendering it impervious to injury. No matter how severe the damage, it could quickly—or even more rapidly—recuperate. Only the Satellite City’s residents would die; it itself had nothing to lose.
Yet, as its body shifted position, it suddenly sensed something amiss.
Where Lu Xin’s hands had made contact, the human faces began to twist and distort. Relative to the Psychic Entity’s immense size, the initial distortion affected only a small section. However, as the monster crawled forward, the warping sensation spread outward from that affected patch. One face influenced the next, then more besides.
The distorted area was expanding.
And as that corruption grew wider, touching more surfaces, its rate of distortion accelerated.
It resembled a glaring oil slick spreading across water’s surface.
This massive Psychic Entity abruptly slowed its forward crawl.
Instinct forewarned it of dreadful consequences.
……
……
“Lone Soldier isn’t the type to blow his own horn!”
Meanwhile, elsewhere on the battlefield, atop a rooftop affording a quick vantage point over the Southern Wall, Gecko continuously disassembled and reassembled his Sniper Rifle while muttering: “But I still can’t grasp what method he’ll use to counter that Psychic Entity… It’s enormous, virtually unkillable! How can a Spider-Type like him handle it?”
Over the comm channel, Tie Cui and Han Bing remained equally silent. They too failed to comprehend.
As members of the Information Analysis Team, they possessed deep expertise regarding Sources of Contamination and Ability Users. Only with such knowledge could they render precise tactical advice in complex scenarios, maximizing an Ability User’s effectiveness.
Precisely due to this expertise, they drew a blank.
A Spider-Type’s abilities focus predominantly on self-enhancement, offering limited scope for offense.
Apart from deploying specialized ordinance, Spider-Types were fundamentally unequipped to confront a Psychic Entity…
……
……
“So this is how it works…”
Below the High Wall, Lu Xin observed his Little Sister’s actions from a place of absolute calm, finally understanding.
Mother had claimed Little Sister could counter this Monster; he hadn’t grasped how.
Now he saw. It really was this simple.
……
……
The Little Sister was subjecting the Psychic Entity to Contamination!
When measured by sheer contamination potency, this Psychic Entity, before the Little Sister, truly became nothing more than a toy!
A large, mobile, noisy, living…
…toy!
