Chapter 134: The Female Ghost

While Zuo Zhicheng and Jiang Qing were still studying the Blood Curse on his back, Zuo Zhicheng suddenly waved his hand, signaling her not to make a sound. Jiang Qing seemed to sense something unusual in the air as well and stopped talking. In the ensuing quiet, they vaguely heard what sounded like someone crying in the cavern.

The cavern had been completely silent before, with no one else around besides Zuo Zhicheng and Jiang Qing. Now that both of them had stopped speaking, the space returned to silence, and the sound, like a woman weeping and complaining, suddenly became extremely clear.

The sound was intermittent, now loud, now soft, sounding just like a woman lamenting something.

Jiang Qing whispered, “Could it be a woman captured by those pirates? Hiding here and crying?” Zuo Zhicheng neither agreed nor disagreed. The sound was ethereal; it seemed like a woman weeping, but if they listened carefully, they couldn’t make out what was actually being said.

Zuo Zhicheng and Jiang Qing exchanged a glance, then lightened their footsteps as they moved toward the source of the sound.

The two passed a row of cargo crates and looked toward a corner of the dock. Strangely, while the entire dock was illuminated by the lights from the cavern ceiling, the light in that particular corner seemed to be broken, leaving the entire area shrouded in darkness.

Jiang Qing saw that in the dark corner, there indeed seemed to be a figure crouching there. But what made her hair stand on end and sent a chill down her spine was that the figure was floating in mid-air. She squinted and could even see a pair of small feet dangling in the air.

At this sight, Jiang Qing felt a shiver of fear. She tapped Zuo Zhicheng’s shoulder and whispered, “This thing… could it be the ghost of a woman killed by those pirates?”

“It’s not a female ghost,” Zuo Zhicheng said, looking completely calm, as if nothing in the world could scare him. “It doesn’t seem like it.”

“Then what is it!” Jiang Qing said nervously. “I think we should just leave it alone.” Perhaps because her tone was a bit too intense, Jiang Qing twisted her body and accidentally kicked a wrench at her feet.

The cavern had been utterly silent, and the sound Jiang Qing made, which would normally have been very faint, echoed through the cavern like the strike of a large bronze bell. The “clang” reverberated in every corner of the cavern, echoing repeatedly.

Jiang Qing’s whole body tensed, and she stared fixedly at the female ghost’s form. Under her gaze, the female ghost seemed startled by the loud noise as well. Its feet and body stopped floating and swaying and became completely still.

At that moment, only one thought crossed Jiang Qing’s mind: ‘Oh no… she’s found us!’

But Zuo Zhicheng patted her shoulder and said calmly, “It’s fine. It’s not a female ghost.”

Of course he could remain calm, not only because he had the ability to stay composed in any situation, but also because, with his Night Vision Mode, he could see the situation there clearly and knew that thing wasn’t a female ghost.

As he spoke, Zuo Zhicheng had already walked to a spot beneath the pair of feet. In Night Vision Mode, he could clearly see that it was indeed a woman’s body. The upper half of her body was almost entirely stuffed into a vent in the wall, while the lower half was exposed outside.

Because of this, when viewed vaguely in the dark, it gave the impression of a person floating in mid-air.

Strangely, though, the woman was swaying because her whole body was constantly moving, as if she was trying to squeeze into the vent. But whatever she was carrying had gotten stuck in the vent.

‘If she took a step back, she wouldn’t be stuck,’ Zuo Zhicheng thought, puzzled. He switched to Infrared Vision and found that there was no heat inside her body. ‘A corpse? Or a mutated corpse?’

Thinking this, Zuo Zhicheng felt no fear. He directly grabbed one of the woman’s feet, pulled hard, and yanked her out of the ventilation duct.

As soon as he pulled her out, a woman’s frantic scream erupted in the air. Above the woman’s head, a strange animal, resembling both a dog and a cat, was biting into her head.

It turned out that this animal had been dragging the woman’s corpse into the ventilation duct, making it look as though the female corpse was crawling into the duct on its own.

Now that Zuo Zhicheng had pulled out both the woman and the beast, the sound resembling a female ghost’s scream was actually coming from that cat-dog-like creature.

As it was dragged down to the ground by Zuo Zhicheng, it let out a screech and immediately lunged at him. Clearly, it was very unhappy that its food had been taken away.

Zuo Zhicheng frowned. Whatever monster this was, he threw a punch directly at it.

Unexpectedly, whatever species this monster was, while still in mid-air, its head split open completely. Its skull, mouth, and nose opened up like petals, revealing rows of sharp teeth all over, as if it intended to swallow Zuo Zhicheng’s entire arm.

But Zuo Zhicheng’s composure in the face of danger was instinctive. Seeing the monster transform before his eyes, his expression remained unchanged, as if he had anticipated it. He simply changed his fist into a palm, retracted and then swept it past the monster’s gaping mouth, striking its back.

The monster, after all, was just an animal. Mid-air and unable to adapt, how could it withstand human Martial Arts? With a loud “thud,” it was slapped to the ground by Zuo Zhicheng’s palm. The impact broke its bones and tendons. After hitting the ground, blood flowed from its seven orifices, and it continuously let out mournful cries, clearly on the verge of death.

This series of actions happened as fast as lightning and thunder. In just a few seconds, the female ghost turned into a female corpse, a monster appeared, opened its mouth to devour, but was then killed by Zuo Zhicheng’s single palm strike.

Jiang Qing’s mouth was slightly agape, the look of astonishment in her eyes not yet faded. The bewildering series of events had left her struggling to process what had just happened.

‘How is A Zuo this powerful?’ A certain doubt in Jiang Qing’s heart grew deeper and deeper.

Just as she thought this, she saw Zuo Zhicheng walk over and stomp down, completely crushing the small monster.

Staring at the bloody, mangled mess, Jiang Qing swallowed hard. “What kind of freak is this? Was the female ghost’s sound coming from it?”

“It came from it, but I don’t know what exactly it is. Probably some creature from this island,” Zuo Zhicheng said, turning his attention to the female corpse.

The female corpse’s head was a bloody mess, clearly bitten numerous times by the monster. Even brain matter and eyeballs were completely gone, evidently eaten.

However, Zuo Zhicheng only frowned slightly at this and began to squat down to examine the female corpse. There were many suspicious, even eerie, aspects to this woman’s body.
