Chapter 4: Heading to the Cafeteria
Chapter 4: Heading to the Cafeteria
In his Dimensional Space, a building blueprint lay inside.
With a thought, a 3D model of the building appeared above the blueprint.
This was a very ordinary-looking building, two stories high.
What surprised Bai Ze was that this building wasn’t a normal one.
He quickly looked at the information on the blueprint.
Building Name: Safe House
Level: Level 1
Capacity: 5 people
Upgrade Cost: 1000 Points (after upgrade, the building gains one more floor)
Description: When the Apocalypse comes, no place is safer than the Safe House.
Please find an empty spot to build it.
After seeing this description, Bai Ze started picturing himself hiding inside the Safe House while watching people outside angrily banging on the door.
But before that, he needed to gather some food and get away from school—luckily, the school was in a remote area, so if he escaped, there would be a large open field.
He glanced at Liu Yumeng lying naked on the sofa.
“Stop crying, weren’t you enjoying it just now!”
“Hurry up and put on your clothes; we’re leaving.”
“Okay!”
Liu Yumeng softly replied, then slowly got up to get dressed.
Bai Ze didn’t show any care or kindness; in fact, he added extra force.
This made some places on her body quite swollen, so every move she made was careful, afraid to hurt the sore spots.
While getting dressed, Liu Yumeng kept replaying the earlier scenes in her mind.
She could hardly believe that Bai Ze was so fierce.
It even gave her a level of happiness she never felt before.
Just thinking about following this man in the future made her feel less resistant inside.
Especially when Bai Ze trained her.
Unconsciously, a blush spread across her face.
Bai Ze didn’t notice the change in Liu Yumeng.
Soon, Liu Yumeng limped over to Bai Ze’s side.
“Stop dawdling; it took too long just to put clothes on. Hurry to the Cafeteria before it gets dark.”
“Okay!” Liu Yumeng slowly followed, looking upset.
Quickly, Bai Ze opened the door of the Storage Room.
The corridor in the Library was free of Zombies now; they must have been drawn away by the gunshots earlier.
Bai Ze raced through the corridor and soon reached the back door of the Library.
He turned to see Liu Yumeng still wobbling along behind.
Seeing her move so slowly made Bai Ze furious.
He glared sharply at her.
Liu Yumeng felt her heart sink, full of misery.
Ignoring the pain, she sped up and soon caught up.
Only then did Bai Ze look outside.
On the path to the Cafeteria, about a dozen Zombies were wandering.
He saw that if he moved fast enough, he could reach the Cafeteria before the Zombies got close.
But he didn’t think Liu Yumeng could manage it.
If he shot to kill those Zombies outside, it might attract even more.
“It turns out the Handgun isn’t perfect,” he realized.
“He needed another plan.”
Right then, he noticed a fire axe hanging in a small fire station nearby.
Dashing over, he grabbed the axe and swung it in the air twice to get a feel for it.
A smile spread over his face.
The axe’s weight and sharpness were just right.
It should be plenty for dealing with Zombies.
Since he had experience killing Zombies up close before, he wasn’t scared.
Holding the fire axe, he stowed the Handgun in his Dimensional Space, pushed the door open, and ran at the nearest Zombie.
“Crunch!”
Bai Ze hacked down hard, and a head rolled to the ground.
“Ah!”
The sight made Liu Yumeng scream out of terror.
The other Zombies heard this and rushed at them both.
Bai Ze gave her an angry look, then charged toward the Zombies.
Bai Ze kept swinging the fire axe in his hands.
One by one, Zombies fell to the ground.
By this point, Bai Ze had killed five Zombies, but he was getting tired from panting so hard.
No time to rest because the remaining Zombies were closing in.
Bai Ze kept slashing with the fire axe.
Nearby, Liu Yumeng watched Bai Ze kill Zombies and felt lost for a moment.
Bai Ze shot her a glance and snapped, “Quit standing there doing nothing; go open the door!”
“Oh, yes!” Liu Yumeng then trotted toward the Cafeteria.
After that, Bai Ze kept fighting Zombies.
In a flash, the last Zombie was dead, but more from farther away were rushing over, drawn by the noise.
Bai Ze didn’t pause to rest; he sprinted for the Cafeteria.
There, he found Liu Yumeng yanking hard on the Cafeteria door.
But the door didn’t move an inch.
This made his nerves tense instantly.
“Someone in the Cafeteria locked it from inside!”
Watching the Zombies behind getting nearer, Bai Ze couldn’t wait any longer.
He raised the fire axe and smashed it against the glass door.
“Crash!”
As the glass shattered, bits flew everywhere.
“Get in!”
Now, both of them ignored the glass shards on the ground and forced their way inside.
Luckily, neither got cut by the glass.
Bai Ze scanned left and right; the Cafeteria hall was deserted, but the kitchen door was shut tight.
“Over there!”
They both dashed toward the kitchen door.
Due to the delay, the Zombies behind were coming faster.
At this point, if the kitchen door didn’t open either, they’d be trapped like fish in a pot.
“Click!”
When Bai Ze turned the handle, the door stayed firm.
Their hearts dropped, confirming someone had locked it.
Seeing the Zombies approach fast all around, Bai Ze’s face was grim as he geared up for a last-ditch move.
But Liu Yumeng burst into tears and started pounding on the door.
“Open the door! Whoever’s inside, open it right now!”
Just then, the door swung open.
“Liu Yumeng!” came a guy’s voice, sounding excited.
“Wang Tao, let us in!” Liu Yumeng recognized the person and sounded urgent.
Wang Tao didn’t waste time; he quickly opened a gap wide enough for a person to slip through.
Liu Yumeng ducked inside instantly.
Just as Bai Ze tried to follow, Wang Tao stopped him.
“Bai Ze, I didn’t expect you to be alive. Too bad you can’t come in.”
Wang Tao made to close the door.
Bai Ze wouldn’t let him; he kicked out, and the door slammed back, hitting Wang Tao right on the head.
Wang Tao stumbled and fell to the floor, looking bewildered.
Seizing the moment, Bai Ze slipped inside and locked the door fast.
The next second, outside Zombies started slamming against the door.
The others inside pushed things over to block it.
