Chapter 15: Evil Cannot Overcome Good

“Is there any food upstairs? Take us up.” The bald porter among the four porters stood up and walked over to ask Sister Mei. After his question, Lü Yang also felt very hungry, but he clearly knew that apart from cement and electrical wires, there was nothing edible in Sister Mei’s house.

“No,” Sister Mei shook her head.

“Dammit! I’m fed up—let’s kill her and that electrician and eat them!” The fat porter next to the bald porter, whether joking or serious, suddenly blurted out this remark.

“Male meat doesn’t taste good; for the woman, we should assault her before killing her,” another porter with a crew cut chimed in, his eyes showing a lewd and fierce gleam as he looked at Sister Mei.

Even though these men seemed to be joking, given the circumstances, Sister Mei was clearly frightened. She tugged at Lü Yang, quickly quickened her pace, walked to the apartment building entrance, and took out her keys to unlock the iron gate.

“The moment I saw that electrician, I disliked him. It’s the apocalypse anyway, so let’s kill him first, then take turns with the woman. We can have some fun before we die.” The lead bald porter among the four spoke up, his voice loud, as if intentionally directed at Lü Yang.

These porters couldn’t comprehend the strange phenomena occurring in the mysterious domain. After gathering by the sand pile and discussing, they unanimously concluded that it must be the apocalypse, especially since this year was 2012, which in recent times had often been considered the end of humanity.

Sister Mei, perhaps terrified by their words, couldn’t steady her trembling hand enough to insert the key correctly into the keyhole of the iron gate at the apartment building entrance. The four porters muttered a few more words among themselves, then fanned out, surrounding the entrance as if they meant to act for real.

Sister Mei was so scared her legs went weak, but she finally managed to insert the key into the lock. However… perhaps due to extreme nervousness and using too much force, the key in her hand snapped with a loud ‘crack!’ inside the lock. She let out a sharp scream, which immediately provoked lewd laughter from the four porters, as if they were imagining something.

“Little lady, why don’t you willingly keep us company, so we don’t have to rough you up.” The bald porter took a few steps closer, staring lustfully at Sister Mei but not making a move immediately.

These porters had never really committed crimes before. Though they had lewd intentions, their courage was still lacking. They talked boldly, but when it came to action, they hesitated.

“Don’t you dare mess around! We’ve called the police! They’ll be here soon!” Sister Mei, terrified to the extreme, stammered a warning at the bald porter.

“Police? Bull! It’s the apocalypse! 110 isn’t working at all!” A fierce light appeared in the bald porter’s eyes as he took another step toward Sister Mei, clearly on the verge of committing a crime.

If it truly were the apocalypse, the most terrifying thing wouldn’t be the end itself, but the beastly instincts humans would show when facing it.

The other three porters, emboldening each other, also advanced lecherously toward Sister Mei, completely ignoring Lü Yang. It seemed they really intended to carry out the crime.

Lü Yang reflected that he wasn’t an invincible protagonist from a web novel. In this situation, he couldn’t possibly take on four opponents alone. If these porters wanted to kill him, he could probably escape by himself, but given his usual nature, he would never abandon Sister Mei.

The four porters had clearly turned into four beasts. Once Sister Mei fell into their hands, her fate would be unthinkable.

The best plan now was to strike first.

Lü Yang let out a loud shout, charged forward, and delivered a heavy kick to the bald porter’s crotch. The kick was extremely forceful, and the bald porter, focused on Sister Mei, was completely unprepared. He screamed and bent over in pain. Without holding back, Lü Yang twisted his wrist, grabbed the bald man’s arm, applied a reverse lock, and executed a hip throw, sending the bald porter crashing heavily onto the cement ground at the apartment building entrance. He lay there screaming, unable to get up.

Lü Yang, who had lost his parents early and wandered around with his maternal grandmother, never picked fights, but when pushed to the brink, he transformed into a furious lion.

Children without parents either become timid as mice or fearless—Lü Yang was clearly the latter.

“Who the hell wants to come forward and try!?” Lü Yang stomped one foot heavily on the bald porter’s body and roared at the other three porters.

Evil cannot overcome good. The three porters were clearly intimidated by Lü Yang’s roar. Though they outnumbered him three to one, they stood trembling, too scared to advance.

“Hurry and grab a shovel to kill him!” The bald porter on the ground, despite his screams, wasn’t idle; he yelled at the other three porters.

Lü Yang delivered another kick to the bald porter’s crotch. Taking advantage of the distraction caused by the renewed screams, Lü Yang dashed out, ran to the sand pile, picked up an iron shovel, and held it in front of himself: “Whoever isn’t afraid to die, come and try!”

The three porters looked at each other, fear in their eyes. They stood frozen, none daring to step forward and fight Lü Yang. After all, they weren’t real criminals in daily life—they were laborers who relied on physical work to get by. Besides, their usual de facto leader, the toughest bald porter, was already down. Their momentarily conceived criminal intentions were utterly crushed by Lü Yang’s imposing presence and furious roar.

Sister Mei seized the opportunity and quickly ran to Lü Yang’s side. She never expected that Lü Yang, who usually seemed like such a good-natured and gentle person, could become as fierce as a male lion when enraged.

A voice suddenly echoed in Lü Yang’s mind: “Mysterious Domain Side Quest activated…”

“Task Objective: Kill four porters.”

“Task Reward: One Eerie Point for each porter killed; an additional two Eerie Points if all four are eliminated…”

“Failure to complete the Side Quest does not deduct Eerie Points…”

“Damn! Treating killing as a game?” Lü Yang couldn’t help but curse silently upon hearing the Eerie Computer’s voice. He had only resorted to violence out of desperation, but actually killing someone? He didn’t have the guts.

Lü Yang collected another iron shovel from the sand pile and tucked it under his arm. Protecting Sister Mei, he backed away while watching the porters’ movements. Seeing they didn’t dare pursue him, Lü Yang quickly pulled Sister Mei away from the apartment building entrance.

The two wound through the main and side paths of the residential area, walking a long distance. Only when they were sure the four porters hadn’t followed and couldn’t find them anytime soon did they find a bench hidden in bushes along a small path to sit down.

The spot was excellent—sitting there, they were completely concealed by the bushes, but they could still observe the intersection outside. Although the residential area had a power outage and there was no moon in the sky, after staying in such darkness for a while, their eyes adjusted enough to see nearby objects more clearly.

After stowing the two iron shovels under the bench, Lü Yang sat down wearily. The earlier scene had been extremely dangerous. If he hadn’t acted decisively to subdue the bald porter first and then seized their shovels to gain the upper hand, it was hard to say what might have happened next.
