Chapter 121: The Commission

“No… My name really is Ji Zhen… I shouldn’t have lied to you, boss… I was wrong! I was wrong!” Ji Zhen looked at Lü Yang with a panicked expression, his eyes shifting nervously.

“You won’t talk? Do you think I don’t recognize you? You are the Death Killer! You’ve been secretly following me near Jing’an Residential Area these past few days!?” Lü Yang glared fiercely and picked up a stone from beside him. He slammed it onto Ji Zhen’s hand, smashing it into a bloody mess. Ji Zhen screamed in terrible pain.

“Death Killer?” The others started murmuring among themselves after hearing Lü Yang’s words.

“I’m not any Death Killer! I… I… I… I’m just a private detective!” In his desperation, Ji Zhen had no choice but to reveal his true identity.

“Not telling the truth!?” Lü Yang slammed another stone right next to Ji Zhen’s cheek. The flying stone fragments and sparks stung Ji Zhen’s face painfully.

“Boss, please stop hitting me! I’ll tell you everything! I’ll say it all! I’m not the Death Killer, it was Director Zhang… Director Zhang who asked me to investigate you! I don’t know why Director Zhang is investigating you either… I really don’t know anything…” Ji Zhen saw the strong killing intent in Lü Yang’s eyes and didn’t dare hide anything from him anymore.

“Director Zhang? Which Director Zhang?” Lü Yang raised the stone in his hand again. He only vaguely felt this person looked familiar and had tried bluffing him earlier. He hadn’t expected to actually get some information out of him.

“Director Zhang from Teli Law Firm…” Ji Zhen revealed Zhang Min’s name with a miserable expression.

“She’s investigating me? Investigating what? What have you told her? Spill everything, or I have ten thousand ways to make you wish you were dead!” Lü Yang continued threatening Ji Zhen, though he felt somewhat disappointed inside…

It didn’t surprise Lü Yang at all that Zhang Min had someone investigating him. Since she wanted to support him, of course she would have someone check his background and history. When Ji Zhen’s fake name was exposed earlier, Lü Yang’s first thought was that he might be connected to the Death Killer. But now, if he was just a private detective hired by Zhang Min to investigate him, Lü Yang felt naturally disappointed.

Even though the possibility of the Death Killer being among these people seemed extremely small, Lü Yang still didn’t give up on this slim hope.

Having no other choice, Ji Zhen told Lü Yang everything he had found out in his investigation – nothing more than Lü Yang’s current occupation, friends, social circle, and such things.

“How did you end up at Jinda Hotel today!? Don’t tell me you came to Jinda Hotel today to investigate me too!?” Although Lü Yang had confirmed Ji Zhen’s identity, he wouldn’t let go of any suspicious points in his story.

After being saved by Zhou Ling and Liu Yin, Lü Yang had remained unconscious and never got the chance to ask Liu Hui or Zhou Ling what happened after he passed out. But he guessed he must have been secretly taken to Jinda Hotel by the State Security Bureau. If Ji Zhen was really just sent by Zhang Min, there was no way he could have followed State Security Bureau personnel to the hotel.

“I took a case investigating extramarital affairs from a wealthy woman two days ago. Today I was following her husband and happened to follow him to Jinda Hotel.” Ji Zhen explained to Lü Yang, but his eyes unconsciously glanced toward the quiet man with glasses nearby.

“You dare lie to me! Do you want to die!?” Lü Yang slammed the stone in his hand right next to Ji Zhen’s head, barely missing his ear. Ji Zhen screamed in terror, almost wetting his pants.

“I can’t say… If I talk, I’ll definitely die…” Ji Zhen glanced at the quiet man with glasses again, then begged Lü Yang for mercy.

“If you don’t talk, you’ll die right now! If you talk, I might be able to save your life.”

Lü Yang glared fiercely at Ji Zhen for quite a while, then suddenly raised his voice several times louder and roared at Ji Zhen: “Do you want to die right now!?”

“Boss, spare me! I really didn’t mean any harm! I don’t want to get involved in your affairs at all! Please, don’t kill me… I have parents to support, and a daughter in middle school… I can’t die! What would they do if I died?” Ji Zhen pretended to cry. Though as a private detective he was braver than most people, the strange events in this Mysterious Domain today had already scared him out of his wits. How could he withstand threats like those from Lü Yang?

“Haibo, keep this guy under control! Find out his identity!” Lü Yang pointed at the quiet man with glasses and told Sun Haibo. He was starting to sense that these four people surviving until now might not necessarily mean they were stronger than the others – there might be deeper reasons.

Whether this was all a setup by the Death Killer or not, Lü Yang wanted to clarify everything he could first.

“Yes, boss!” Seeing how fierce and ruthless Lü Yang was, Sun Haibo became even more determined to follow him. So when Lü Yang gave the order, he immediately pinned the quiet man with glasses to the ground, imitating Lü Yang by straddling him and loudly questioning him.

“What you’re doing is illegal!” The quiet man with glasses protested angrily to Sun Haibo.

“Boss, can I hit him?” Sun Haibo asked Lü Yang.

“Just don’t kill him.” Lü Yang replied to Sun Haibo, then turned his attention back to Ji Zhen, whom he had pinned to the ground.

The female student was completely terrified, covering her mouth with her hand as she looked at Ji Zhen one moment and the quiet man with glasses the next. She never expected her careless remark would bring such big trouble to both of them.

“Tell me everything about why you came to Jinda Hotel and everything you know! If you dare lie to me again, I’ll break one of your arms, then break both your arms and legs! Then I’ll cut the tendons in your wrists and ankles, and cut out your tongue! After we return to reality, I’ll torture your family members, including your daughter, one by one until they die! Don’t test my patience!” Lü Yang glared at Ji Zhen like a fierce demon.

Having been toyed with by the Death Killer for so long, Lü Yang had built up a belly full of anger, which he now unconsciously took out on Ji Zhen.

The Mysterious Domain was subtly changing his personality.

When Lü Yang said he would break Ji Zhen’s arms and legs, he meant it seriously without any joking or bluffing. But he definitely wouldn’t do something like torturing Ji Zhen’s family to death. Everything he was doing now was to force the truth out of Ji Zhen.

“I’ll talk… I’ll tell you everything… Just please don’t hurt my family…” How could Ji Zhen dare disobey Lü Yang’s orders anymore? Especially after Lü Yang had Sun Haibo restrain the quiet man with glasses, he didn’t dare hide anything from Lü Yang.

“One week ago, I received a phone call. The caller said… Han Cheng was coming to Guishe City, and told me all his travel arrangements and where he’d be staying… Later, that mysterious caller transferred one hundred thousand yuan to my bank account, asking me to monitor Han Cheng’s every move… He specifically emphasized that the focus should be on Han Cheng’s activities in his hotel room…”

“The mysterious person told me he suspected Han Cheng was involved in illegal activities. He wanted me to record videos as evidence whenever I noticed any unusual behavior from Han Cheng and send them to him…”

“I felt this matter wasn’t simple and was afraid getting too involved would put my life in danger. So I refused the commission from the mysterious person. But then that mysterious person transferred another two hundred thousand yuan to my account. He said if I dared refuse this commission, he would have his subordinates kill my entire family. But if I obeyed and found useful evidence to send him, he would transfer another one million yuan to my account.”
