Chapter 495: Everyone’s a Mole

Bats coalesced into the vampire Oli, who dangled upside-down from the ceiling while maintaining distance from the group.

Erica’s eyes widened. “You’re alive?”

She instinctively stepped forward, but Victor blocked her path. “Wait. Stay back.”

Erica stiffened before erupting: “You think I’m the murderer?”

“Caution doesn’t equal accusation—”

“That’s exactly what you’re implying!”

Their argument unfolded as spectators watched.

Fang Cheng moved between clone corpses, scavenging each one with mosquito-leg diligence. Combined with earlier encounters, his tally reached thirty lives.

Remaining: 377

He barely suppressed laughter—this harvest dwarfed hunting monsters in wilderness. If Gates of Heaven had more clones, he’d happily raid their base.

Mid-celebration, Fang Cheng noticed the ceiling vampire glaring at him. Had he offended Oli somehow?

Victor’s quarrel with Erica halted as steel doors crashed down, sealing exits. A wall-mounted screen flickered to life, revealing a hooded figure resembling FFF member—black robe, face-concealing pointed hat, only intense eyes visible.

“Ladies and gentlemen!” The distorted voice boomed as the figure surveyed eight survivors. “Enjoying my game?”

Only Fang Cheng and ice-queen Ye Yuqing remained expressionless. Others gaped.

Victor growled through clenched teeth: “Gates of Heaven?”

“Correct.” The figure chuckled. “Your safety agency overreached by investigating our base. Consider this… instructional.”

Clapping interrupted Victor’s retort. All turned to Fang Cheng.

“Director Tony—or should I say Bald Director?” Fang Cheng addressed the screen. “Fine performance. When they fire you, Hollywood awaits.”

Gasps outdid earlier shock from witnessing the director’s demise.

The screen figure’s eyes turned glacial. “Explain this nonsense.”

Fang Cheng smiled. “Then take it as nonsense.”

He’d infused his blood into everyone earlier, including the bald director.

After leaving the living room with Victor and others, he sensed the bald director’s corpse moving beyond the villa’s range.

The guy hadn’t died at all – he’d fooled everyone by playing dead.

Without Fang Cheng’s blood tracking, even he might’ve been deceived.

Under the group’s uncertain gazes, the mysterious man finally snorted softly after prolonged silence.

“Typical of you.”

Removing his pointed hood revealed a gleaming bald head under the lights.

The supposedly dead director now appeared alive onscreen.

Victor’s group stared in shock. This man oversaw all safety agency investigators and external personnel, having launched multiple Gates of Heaven operations.

Yet the thick-browed director turned out to be the Gates of Heaven’s mole.

“Will Tony!” Victor shouted angrily. “You sold us out during the last Gates of Heaven raid!”

“Director!” Little Spider raised his hands. “I’ll defect to Gates of Heaven too – just give me standard benefits.”

“Enough. Your terrible acting disgusts me.” The director glared. “Victor – FBI plant. Little Spider – CIA’s Homeland Security infiltrator.”

Victor’s panicked denial only confirmed the accusation.

“And you!” The director cut off Little Spider’s attempted deflection. “Still claiming this is misunderstanding?”

All eyes turned to the silent magician as the director continued: “Though I never traced your origins, you joined solely to investigate me.”

The magician shrugged. “IRS.”

Silence fell.

The CIA and FBI were expected… but IRS?

“Why?” The director demanded.

“You evaded taxes on $100,000 last year.”

“That’s it?”

“Of course.”

The magician adjusted his hat with his fingers. “Every penny of owed taxes must be paid, and we suspect further tax evasion.”

The bald man’s mouth opened but only spat out one word: “F*ck!”

Fang Cheng watched nearby, amazed.

Even the IRS could dispatch superpowered individuals to investigate tax evasion.

This mole had failed spectacularly, being surveilled by three agencies simultaneously.

Ignoring the three moles, the bald man fixed his gaze on Fang Cheng. “On behalf of Gates of Heaven, I demand to know why you’ve come to North America to trouble us.”

Fang Cheng’s pulse quickened. “You know who I am?”

The bald man’s lips curled. “Yes.”

He’d seen Fang Cheng’s classified documents during a meeting at Homeland Security headquarters.

Fang Cheng and Ye Yuqing had applied to join the Gates of Heaven operation under Area 11’s Countermeasures Department – a seemingly legitimate request.

But the bald man had accessed Fang Cheng’s true records, instantly recognizing the deception.

As Gates of Heaven’s plant within the safety agency, he’d immediately reported this critical message.

The organization responded by sending a Grim Reaper-cursed invitation letter to eliminate Fang Cheng.

When the curse failed and Fang Cheng survived Death’s assault, the bald man considered exposing him to the North American United Government.

But this risked the government using Fang Cheng against Gates of Heaven instead of expelling him.

Tonight’s trap became the alternative – capturing both Fang Cheng and these moles in one sweep.

After the failed Gates of Heaven raid, government suspicion had fallen on safety agency moles, with the bald man as prime suspect.

He’d prepared to fake his death tonight… only to be exposed immediately.

“So it was you.” Understanding dawned on Fang Cheng. He’d suspected Victor, not this thick-browed traitor.

“This is a misunderstanding. While appearing troublesome,” Fang Cheng said earnestly, “I’m actually an evil god’s proxy from Area 11 seeking religious exchange with Gates of Heaven. I request direct communication with your owner.”

Ye Yuqing maintained her icy composure, suppressing laughter. Others fought facial twitches.

_Who’d believe a proxy insulting their own deity?_

“Have it your way.” The bald man’s smile turned glacial. “I’ll personally escort you to hell – the inevitable end for Gates of Heaven’s enemies.”

As soon as he finished speaking, white mist sprayed from the walls and swiftly filled the entire space.

Everyone instinctively covered their faces while Fang Cheng grabbed Ye Yuqing’s arm.

He used Vector Control to create defenses around them, reflecting all objects and energy.

The bald man’s laughter boomed from the speakers: “Useless. This gas absorbs through skin.”

Victor’s group soon felt weakness in their limbs, struggling to stand.

“Now.”

Erica suddenly lunged forward, kicking Victor’s chest and sending him crashing down.

Jack swung his massive fist, knocking the staggering Little Spider to the floor.

Julia drew her handgun, aiming steadily at the magician.

Victor raised his head painfully, staring at Erica. “You’re with Gates of Heaven too?”

Erica grinned and whistled. “Guess.”

Nearby, Little Spider gasped from the ground: “Jack… I thought you loved me.”

“Exactly. That’s why I’m loving you proper with my fists.”

Jack hoisted him up and smashed him against the floor.

When the mist cleared, the three moles from FIB, CAI, and IRS lay defeated.

Only Fang Cheng and Ye Yuqing remained standing amidst the traitors – Erica, Jack, and Julia all worked for the bald man.

No innocents here. Every single one turned traitor.

The mystery dissolved – these were all the murderers.

Fang Cheng finally understood why Erica and Jack had challenged him during the safety agency meeting.

All just tests ordered by the bald schemer.

“Is this your grand plan?” Fang Cheng stared upward. “Think these amateurs can beat me?”

“Hardly.” The bald man smirked. “That gas’s weakness is just a side effect. Gates of Heaven’s newest poison flows through your blood right now.”

Erica’s team had taken antidotes beforehand. Their job? Make you fight harder. Pump blood faster. Die quicker.

“Oli!” The bald man shouted at the vampire dangling from the ceiling. “Avenge your Queen.”

Vampire Oli dropped from above, hatred burning in his eyes as he faced Fang Cheng.
