Chapter 468: Only to Become a Death Spirit
Chapter 468: Only to Become a Death Spirit
“You… your face?”
Ye Yuqing stepped back in fright. “Why does your face look like mine, and why’s your voice the same?”
“Because I’m divine. Mortals can’t behold my true beauty, so I borrowed your appearance and voice.”
Though Tsukimi Narumi’s face matched Ye Yuqing’s perfectly, her stern expression radiated maturity – a stark contrast to Ye Yuqing’s bratty demeanor.
Ye Yuqing sighed with relief, having briefly feared she might be dealing with triple personalities instead of dual.
She suddenly recalled her midnight brawling adventures.
“Were you possessing me before?”
“Correct.”
Tsukimi Narumi answered plainly: “You qualify as my proxy.”
Ignoring the proxy talk, Ye Yuqing pressed urgently: “You said you’d help save Fang Cheng! How?”
“Become my proxy.”
Tsukimi Narumi’s words carried finality. “Pledge your entire being to me. I’ll grant power to rescue Fang Cheng.”
“Deal…”
Ye Yuqing nearly agreed instantly, then remembered sharing her body with Asaka Akihime. Though certain Akihime would consent, such weighty decisions demanded consultation – especially when the price seemed so high.
“Can I discuss this with Akihime?”
“Granted.”
Tsukimi Narumi’s figure dissolved into shadows.
…
Asaka Akihime clutched her throbbing head, dizziness threatening to topple her. She leaned heavily against Kanzaki Rin.
Kanzaki Rin supported her with one arm while checking her forehead – normal body temperature. With Fang Cheng’s fate uncertain, this new health issue strained even her normally calm mindset.
The nine-tailed fox sneered nearby: “Your man’s getting pummeled while you girls cuddle? Priorities skewed, no?”
Kanzaki Rin glared, about to summon the fox for medical opinion, when Akihime suddenly spoke against her shoulder: “What did you say?”
Kanzaki Rin looked down, realizing the question wasn’t for her.
Akihime’s face flashed with shock before settling into resolve. “Understood.”
“Talking to Ye Yuqing?” Kanzaki Rin asked. “Is she conscious?”
“Yes. She brings hopeful news.”
Asaka Akihime nodded and removed the soul stabilizer from her neck, solemnly placing it in Kanzaki Rin’s hands. She stepped back several paces. “Rin, keep this safe for me.”
Kanzaki Rin stared at her in shock. “What are you doing?”
“We’ve always been protected by you.”
Asaka Akihime smiled gently. “Now it’s mine and Yuqing’s turn to protect you all.”
The space around her abruptly warped as scorching black flames erupted from the ground, swallowing her whole.
“Akihime?!”
Kanzaki Rin tried to charge forward but staggered back from the blistering heat.
The nine-tailed fox yanked her away, sensing the terrifying power within the flames. “Stay back!”
The towering black flames coalesced into a cloak-like shape. Within the blazing inferno stood a silver-armored woman, her face half-hidden by the hood – only a pale chin visible.
“An evil god projection?!”
Kanzaki Rin remembered destroying a cult’s sacrificial ceremony with Fang Cheng, where zealots had summoned similar manifestations.
Why here?
Her mind flashed to Asaka Akihime’s past as the Blissful Faith’s Saintess, and how the Goddess of Anger from the Twin Gods had once dwelled within Ye Yuqing before vanishing.
This made dreadful sense – both girls were prepared as vessels for evil gods. Since the Goddess of Compassion haunted Fang Cheng, this armored figure must be the Goddess of Anger: Tsukimi Narumi.
The moment Kanzaki Rin thought the name, Tsukimi Narumi’s glacial gaze snapped toward her. Cold terror locked Kanzaki Rin’s muscles, her heartbeat stuttering.
The nine-tailed fox’s fur bristled. It shrank into a little fox and cowered behind Kanzaki Rin. Evil gods surpassed even Isis – best not attract attention.
Tsukimi Narumi turned toward Eve across the rooftop.
Eve finally showed solemnity, opening her mouth to speak – when black flames devoured her.
The fire vanished as suddenly as it came, leaving only ashes.
Tsukimi Narumi faced the distant battle between Fang Cheng and Isis.
BOOM!
Black flames exploded across the roof. Kanzaki Rin shielded her face, but the fire harmlessly licked the air.
Tsukimi Narumi became a black comet trailing flames, streaking across the sky.
The flesh-ball fox perched on Kanzaki Rin’s shoulder. “Not mere projection – proper arrival through vessels. Things’ll get interesting.”
Kanzaki Rin frowned. What became of Asaka Akihime and Ye Yuqing when an evil god took their bodies?
…
Life: -1
Remaining: 134
Fang Cheng revived again and saw his Life counter at 134. Despair threatened to overwhelm him.
The gap between disaster level and ace level felt like an insurmountable dimensional divide.
He’d spent countless lives upgrading his skills. Though he could handle Uehara Takashi now, Isis still obliterated him effortlessly.
Using her unstoppable Idealism, she dragged him closer. The fake Scythe of Kronos sliced through all defenses, shredding both body and soul.
This counterfeit divine weapon combined Idealism’s maximum output with god-slaying and soul-harvesting Attributes – Fang Cheng’s perfect counter.
Seeing him revive unharmed again, Isis felt uneasy. Physical revival she understood, but soul restoration? Even gods struggled with that.
The Scythe of Kronos had cut him repeatedly, yet he revived with no soul damage or side effects. Most worrying – she couldn’t tell if his revivals were finite.
“What are you?” she whispered, staring at his face. “Why won’t you die?”
“Because I’ll never be a dead man.” Fang Cheng grinned. “Just a dead ghost.”
“Ghost?” The 200-year-old polyglot recognized the flirtatious tease. She swapped her scythe for an ornate double-edged sword.
Though Fang Cheng didn’t recognize the blade, he knew it was another custom weapon against him.
“Sword of Hergney,” Isis declared. “Cursed magic sword that must claim lives before sheathing. Symbol of honor and destruction…” She pointed it at him. “Nothing’s eternal. Your number of lives can’t be infinite.”
Fang Cheng stayed calm, trusting his System’s revival. Yet Isis was right – 134 lives left. Death awaited if depleted.
As Isis reached for him, she suddenly paused, frowning toward Mechanical City. “Trouble approaches.”
Fang Cheng followed her gaze. His enhanced vision caught a black fire streak approaching at supersonic fighter jet speed.
Within moments, the streak entered the N5 explosion zone – a silver-armored woman trailing black flames from her cloak.
Isis abandoned Fang Cheng, swinging the Sword of Hergney at Tsukimi Narumi. The blade glowed black, extending 100 meters.
Tsukimi Narumi drew a Giant Sword from her cloak. Its white light beam clashed with the black blade silently, creating N5 explosion-level brightness.
CRASH! The counterfeit sword shattered. Tsukimi Narumi’s follow-up swing cleaved Isis’s Idealism domain open, forcing her to Teleport away.
Their suburban aerial chase became blurred figures – residual black flames and giant sword slashes cutting through air.
“Tsukimi Narumi?” Fang Cheng recognized her from previous encounters. “Why’s she here?”
A harsh voice growled in his ear: “Stop gawking. I’ll restrain Isis. Victory’s your responsibility.”
Fang Cheng snapped into action. Regardless of Tsukimi Narumi’s motives, this was his only chance. Activating War God Bloodline, he joined the chase.
