Chapter 37: Fang Cheng’s Last Wish Before Death

The distance between the two rapidly closed.

Heishi Youto ignored the silver sword thrust toward him; a vampire’s weak point was the heart, not the head, so no special defenses were needed.

He flung his arms forward, the ten slender crystalline entities engulfing Kanzaki Rin’s body.

This strike would slice her into dozens of fragments.

But then, a sudden shift.

A low roar burst into their ears as a massive crystalline entity hurtled through the air, slamming into Heishi Youto and sending him flying.

Fang Cheng’s figure blurred past Kanzaki Rin, charging after the staggering Heishi Youto.

Kanzaki Rin’s silver sword stabbed empty air, leaving her rooted in place.

Death had brushed past her again. Her courage drained away like receding waves, cold sweat drenching her body.

Without Fang Cheng’s timely intervention, she’d have died instantly instead of landing a killing blow.

She turned to see Fang Cheng already closing in on Heishi Youto.

From the battle’s start until now, Fang Cheng had never enjoyed such a flawless opening.

Heishi Youto’s cunning kept Fang Cheng at bay, kiting him relentlessly.

Without Kanzaki Rin’s diversion, closing the distance would’ve been impossible.

Now within reach, Fang Cheng yanked Heishi Youto backward and drove a punch into his gut, launching him upward.

Fang Cheng unleashed everything. His fists became a storm of afterimages, relentless as pounding rain, each strike hammering Heishi Youto’s body.

An imaginary narrator might’ve roared alongside the fury of blows.

Heishi Youto reeled, vision swimming with phantom fists.

His body never touched the ground—Fang Cheng’s onslaught kept him airborne, battering him ceaselessly.

Forgotten were the combat techniques Fang Cheng had painstakingly learned. Instinct and raw anger fueled his strikes, each punch ruthlessly efficient.

Blood and flesh sprayed as Heishi Youto’s body visibly disintegrated.

Fang Cheng’s final punch cratered Heishi Youto’s chest. His fist plunged deep, chasing the slippery shape fleeing within.

Heishi Youto’s heart.

Fang Cheng’s hand snapped shut around the veins trailing from the organ.

“Ah!!”

The blood-drenched Heishi Youto howled, crushing Fang Cheng in a grapple. Crystalline entities stabbed deep into Fang Cheng’s torso.

Blood in Heishi Youto’s chest hardened into jagged spikes, shredding Fang Cheng’s arm.

Simultaneously, Heishi Youto’s gaping maw lunged for Fang Cheng’s head, sharp teeth glinting.

Fang Cheng seized Heishi Youto’s throat, halting the snapping jaws inches from his face.

They strained against each other, locked in deadlock.

“Hurry! I’ve got his heart!”

Fang Cheng shouted.

Without needing his reminder, Kanzaki Rin had already charged forward with her silver sword, aiming to flank Heishi Youto and strike him from behind.

Under Death’s threat, Heishi Youto abruptly snapped out of his frenzied state.

With a roar, red crystals erupted from his body, reforming into a massive ‘sea urchin’ shape.

Fang Cheng, pressed close against him, became riddled with holes. The long crystal spikes kept Kanzaki Rin at bay, leaving her no opening to attack.

She hacked at the crystal with her sword, sparks flying. The crystal remained unscathed while her silver sword gained a fresh notch.

“You can’t kill me,” Heishi Youto roared. “I’ll take you both out! I’ll drink your blood, devour your flesh, and crunch your bones to dust!”

Fang Cheng glared coldly before suddenly yelling, “Strike through me!”

Impaled by countless crystals with his heart bleeding profusely, Fang Cheng knew delaying meant certain death anyway. Better to gamble everything than waste a revival chance.

Kanzaki Rin instantly understood. With Heishi Youto armored in crystal spikes, the only vulnerable point was where he and Fang Cheng were fused together.

Heishi Youto tried shoving Fang Cheng away, but their bodies remained locked in a grotesque embrace. Fang Cheng’s death grip on the monster’s heart prevented any movement.

“Stop!” Heishi Youto screamed at Kanzaki Rin. “Our hearts are joined! Kill me and he dies too!”

Kanzaki Rin had already circled behind Fang Cheng. “Thanks for the tip,” she sneered.

Before the echo faded, she drove her silver sword through Fang Cheng’s back with full force.

The blade pierced Fang Cheng’s heart, continued through his chest, and skewered Heishi Youto’s desperately twisting heart.

The wounded heart convulsed. Black tendrils spread from the wound, consuming Heishi Youto’s entire body. Frozen in terror, his skin turned corpse-gray as breath left him. The red crystals blackened and crumbled to ash.

Kanzaki Rin yanked her sword free. Released from the crystalline prison, both bodies thudded to the ground.

She caught Fang Cheng, then recoiled at his appearance – bloodless face slack, eyes unfocused, clearly nearing death’s door.

“Are you okay?” she demanded, remembering his supposed immunity to silver weapons.

Fang Cheng’s eyelids fluttered. “…can’t…make it…”

Kanzaki Rin dropped him coldly. “Take your time dying.”

Fang Cheng lay motionless, breath fading to nothing.

“Enough games.” She kicked his ribs. “Get up.”

His ashen skin matched Heishi Youto’s corpse.

“This isn’t funny!” Panic edged her voice. She shook him violently. “Stop faking! Answer me!”

Only cold flesh answered.

Kanzaki Rin stumbled to the car wreckage, frantically digging through fragments until she found a medical kit.

She plunged a syringe of clear serum into Fang Cheng’s chest. “Don’t you dare die! You owe me money!”

The miracle drug worked instantly. Warmth flooded his veins. His eyes cracked open, lips moving.

Kanzaki Rin bent close. “What?”

“…dying virgin…let me touch…your charm…”
