Chapter 34: Things Men Shouldn’t Say

“Snap!”

The sound didn’t come from Heishi Youto’s fingers, but from a drone that had crept behind him, projecting a tiny sphere.

Heishi Youto snatched the sphere aimed at his head with a backward grab. Smoke exploded from the ball, shrouding him completely.

The moment the smoke billowed out, Fang Cheng slammed his foot down, scattering gravel and dirt.

After a few sprinting steps, he lunged into the smoke like a loosed arrow and drove his fist toward Heishi Youto’s face.

Choked by the smoke, Heishi Youto coughed violently, taking Fang Cheng’s punch full force.

*Thud!*

The brutal strike shattered half of Heishi Youto’s face, hurling him meters backward. He skidded across the ground, carving a deep groove.

Holding his breath, Fang Cheng stormed out of the smoke, fury blazing as he strode toward Heishi Youto.

Fang Cheng rarely meddled in others’ troubles—sometimes believing himself colder than most.

Yet he remained human, with lines he’d never cross.

Heishi Youto’s wanton slaughter of innocents had crossed those lines.

This beast had to die.

A second drone hovered above Uka Mirai and the others. Kanzaki Rin’s voice crackled through:

“Everyone—leave now! Don’t linger!”

The survivors fixed their gazes on Heishi Youto’s motionless body. Fear of their fallen companion paled against surging survival instinct. They staggered toward escape.

Uka Mirai fled too, but glanced back once. Fang Cheng’s unwavering figure burned into her memory.

As Fang Cheng closed in, Heishi Youto erupted in laughter.

“Hahaha!”

He sprang up, his ruined face now flawless. “You thought you hurt me? Fooled you!”

“Shut your damn mouth!”

Fang Cheng’s legs coiled, his body flickering sideways—then vanishing from Heishi Youto’s view.

Heishi Youto whipped his head around just as an uppercut smashed his jaw, launching him into a spiraling arc.

The same technique Takeda Masumi had used against Fang Cheng three days prior now struck Heishi Youto.

Watching via drone, Kanzaki Rin exhaled quietly.

Sending Fang Cheng for special training had paid off—he’d never have moved like this before.

She wasn’t idle either. Once the women fled, she set to work.

A vampire fed on its own kind ranked as a medium threat internationally, endangering public safety.

Fang Cheng couldn’t handle this alone.

As Kanzaki Rin prepared, changes began unfolding on the battlefield.

After landing, Heishi Youto scrambled across the ground, putting distance between himself and Fang Cheng.

He rose to his feet, his shattered jaw already mending.

“Damn, that stung!”

Heishi Youto clutched his jaw, face twitching.

Vampire attacks between kin caused genuine harm. Though Fang Cheng’s punch dealt less damage than expected, the pain remained sharp.

Having devoured his brethren, Heishi Youto had assumed crushing this rookie would be effortless. Yet Fang Cheng’s fighting power stunned him – two blows nearly knocked him senseless.

As Fang Cheng closed in, Heishi Youto inhaled deeply and sneered, “Strong, but sluggish. Let me demonstrate real speed!”

Fang Cheng snorted, “First guy I’ve met bragging about being fast. Impotent or just lousy in bed?”

Heishi Youto’s face darkened.

“You’ll regret that, brat!”

His trench coat billowed like bat wings as he dissolved into a black shadow, hurtling toward Fang Cheng.

The vampire repeated his earlier tactic – a leaping charge. Fang Cheng sidestepped left, aiming a hook punch at the abdomen.

His fist met empty air.

Heishi Youto bat-dodged the strike, cackling as he circled Fang Cheng, leaving afterimages. “Speed is power!”

Fang Cheng’s gaze couldn’t track the movements. Swinging blindly, he scored no hits while claws raked his body.

Abandoning defense, Fang Cheng matched his opponent’s pace. Two figures blurred across the warehouse clearing.

“Useless! I see through every move!” Heishi Youto’s laughter echoed as he overwhelmed Fang Cheng.

Though Fang Cheng’s enhanced stamina had bested Takeda Masumi, it couldn’t rival a kin-devouring vampire. His combat strength proved futile against untouchable speed.

Within moments, Fang Cheng became a blood figure – wounds latticework his flesh, some bone-deep.

Drones buzzed closer. Kanzaki Rin nearly intervened upon seeing his state.

“Stay back!” Fang Cheng barked. “Save the drones!”

“Stop being stubborn-”

“I said enough!”

Reluctantly, Kanzaki redirected the drones.

Heishi Youto jeered, “Rejecting help? Admirable courage, fatal foolishness.” More deep wounds bloomed across Fang Cheng’s chest.

Fang Cheng swung at an afterimage. Heishi Youto materialized behind him, clawed hand spearing toward his heart.

“Your heart’s mine!”

Fang Cheng pivoted, intercepting the strike. Claws pierced his palm as he locked grips with the vampire.

Heishi Youto strained backwards, trapped.

“Done yapping?” Fang Cheng grinned through bloody streaks.

Snarling, Heishi Youto thrust his free hand at Fang Cheng’s chest – only to have his wrist seized and yanked forward.

Their skulls collided with a thunderous CRACK.
