Chapter 217: You Wear Yours, I Watch Mine; Let’s Each Do Our Own Thing
The next morning, the atmosphere at the dining table felt heavy. Everyone ate breakfast in silence, with even the usually talkative Ye Yuqing hiding away.
By now, they’d all realized something strange had happened last night.
But the awkwardness kept them from discussing it openly.
Uka Qingxue remained unaware – she’d slept unusually soundly, failing to notice the young ladies sneaking out at midnight. This rare negligence made her secretly suspect she’d been drugged or cursed.
Fang Cheng and Kanzaki Rin grew more convinced this was evil god-chan’s doing. Only she could manipulate so many people’s thoughts and actions unnoticed.
Yet discussing it proved pointless given their power disparity. They could only endure her games.
Fang Cheng suspected his awareness of the manipulations was intentional. If she could influence minds covertly, she could’ve hidden all traces completely. The “clues” might just be her enjoying his helpless frustration.
She likely knew about his Iron Fortress plan too. Not stopping him suggested she wanted higher-stakes entertainment. If this failed, he’d have to consider visiting Longhu Mountain back home.
After the tense meal, Uka Qingxue addressed Fang Cheng: “The marriage documents are ready. Custom clothes arrive in an hour for photos today.”
Others pretended to mind their business while eavesdropping.
Fang Cheng nodded, then grinned: “Does this marriage trial include wedding night privileges?”
Uka Qingxue shot him a frosty glare, unaccustomed to his humor.
“NO!” Uka Mirai blurted out nearby. Under everyone’s gaze, she flushed: “I mean… why get excited? It’s fake anyway.”
Who’s really excited here?
An hour later, Uka family staff transformed a spare villa room into photo-ready bridal suite with delivered props.
Fang Cheng received his handmade suit without complaints when Uka Qingxue asked. This fake marriage’s photo-only package held no thrill – just another act to perform.
Ignoring Uka Mirai’s whispering group, he retreated to change. He also reapplied the male human skin from Fox Spirit House. The boss lady had warned Iron Fortress might harbor Otsutai’s former allies, making his real identity risky.
This disguise – 80% resembling his true looks – would serve both the fake marriage and Iron Fortress visit. Only the photos would hold authenticity.
Finding the first floor empty after changing, Fang Cheng ascended to the second floor where giggles spilled from the largest room.
Fang Cheng curiously walked over. Before he could push open the door, it swung open by itself. A bride in wedding dress emerged.
His expression turned surprised, for the person stepping out wasn’t Uka Qingxue but Takeda Masumi.
Among all the women Fang Cheng knew, Takeda Masumi stood the tallest – even surpassing his own height. Though usually appearing as muscular woman, the wedding dress now revealed unexpected feminine softness. Under Fang Cheng’s gaze, she shyly averted her eyes.
Since everyone had already seen Fang Cheng’s human skin disguise, there was no chance of mistaken identity.
As he opened his mouth, two more brides emerged from the doorway – Uka Mirai and Uka Qingxue.
The small dog-like girl jumped upon seeing Fang Cheng outside. She hurried over whispering: “Cheng-brother, I bought wedding dresses for all the big sisters. Don’t be angry!”
Fang Cheng smiled and ruffled her head. “Silly child, why would I be angry?”
He nearly gave her a thumbs-up for this brilliant move.
Uka Mirai instantly beamed, her furry ears popping out for petting while her tail swished beneath the wedding gown.
Uka Qingxue approached to adjust her young mistress’ clothes. Her already surreal beauty became indescribable when framed by bridal white.
Two more brides emerged – Sato Mai and Kanzaki Rin.
Sato Mai bounced forward, twirling boldly before Fang Cheng. “Cheng-brother, how do I look in wedding dress?”
Though only fifteen, her figure already hinted at womanly curves. Were it not for her youthful face, she could pass as proper bride.
Fang Cheng eyed her appreciatively and flashed thumbs-up: “Amazing, Mai!”
“Mean! Don’t tease bride on her day!”
Kanzaki Rin stood nearby with crossed arms. The white gown and gauzy gloves accentuated her striking charm, making her impossible to ignore.
Fang Cheng hadn’t expected serious Rin to join this farce. Then he remembered – she was merely seventeen. He often forgot her true age, mistaking this mature girl for actual adult.
Meeting his shocked gaze calmly, Rin stated: “This isn’t for your benefit, so don’t get ideas.”
She’d only agreed due to Uka Mirai’s nagging – since the dresses were already purchased anyway.
Though people claimed wedding dresses represented every woman’s dream, Rin felt no such longing. Still, since future opportunities seemed unlikely, this trial run wasn’t entirely bad.
Fang Cheng enthusiastically gave her thumbs-up: “No worries. You wear yours, I’ll admire mine. Mutual benefits.”
Kanzaki Rin: …
Fang Cheng didn’t approach the door, instead waiting expectantly. Only Asaka Akihime remained unseen.
What vision would she present in bridal wear?
At last, another bride stumbled out.
A delicate beauty with snow-pale skin, exquisite collarbones, cherry lips and dewy eyes stood revealed. The wedding gown transformed her into bashful snow lotus – pure yet utterly captivating.
Fang Cheng’s smile abruptly disappeared.
