Chapter 24: Fairy Suxin
Chapter 24: Fairy Suxin
Zhou Yu quickly reached out and took the radio. As he touched it, the pure white light vanished. He then turned on the desk lamp.
After a week, this radio was turning on again. He felt some excitement inside, but more than that, he was puzzled. He didn’t understand if the radio needed to absorb energy, or if it turned on randomly.
Holding the radio, Zhou Yu pushed the switch. The familiar static made his spirits lift. He hadn’t seen it for a week; he wondered if Uncle-Master Wu had been thinking of him.
He pinched the radio’s tuning knob with his hand and began to rotate it, wanting to tune the frequency to where Uncle-Master Wu appeared.
During the previous second time the radio turned on, he had also tuned through the frequencies. Besides where Uncle-Master Wu appeared, all other frequencies were filled with static.
As he got closer to Uncle-Master Wu’s frequency, an expectant look appeared on Zhou Yu’s face. Just then, suddenly, the static disappeared, and a strand of zither music came from the radio.
Hearing this sound, he instinctively released his hand and looked carefully at the position of the frequency line on the radio. It was definitely not where Uncle-Master Wu had been the previous two times.
Could it be that Uncle-Master Wu had gone to another place, so the radio’s frequency had changed as well?
While pondering this, Zhou Yu’s mind was slowly drawn in by the zither music coming from the radio. The music was very beautiful, the melody soft and gentle. It felt like a gentle breeze brushing against the face, so comfortable that it brought a sense of relaxation to both his mind and body.
Following the music, his mind sank into it. He stopped thinking about Uncle-Master Wu. Surrounded by the music, it seemed as if strands of a gentle breeze were swirling around him, lifting him gently up into the sky.
Outside the house, it was still all lightning and thunder. Yet, it could not affect Zhou Yu’s listening at all.
Just then, the melody grew slower and slower. He heard a soft sigh. Then, he felt the strands of gentle breeze around him disappear, and the feeling of lightness on his body slowly faded away.
This sigh was clear and ethereal. It made Zhou Yu’s heart suddenly tremble, like a drop of clear spring water falling into a parched heart. He felt goosebumps rise on his skin. This feeling was far stronger than what the zither music had given him just moments ago.
He heard it. This sigh was a woman’s voice. Was Uncle-Master Wu listening to someone else play the zither?
“Sister Suxin, Senior Brother Zheng from the Ten Thousand Beasts Sect is here to visit.” At that moment, another woman’s voice came from the radio, but it wasn’t as clear and ethereal as that sigh.
Senior Brother Zheng from the Ten Thousand Beasts Sect… Uncle-Master Wu wasn’t here. Perhaps he guessed wrong. It wasn’t that Uncle-Master Wu went somewhere else, but that the radio had picked up voices from outside the Xuantian Sect again.
Zhou Yu thought about it, puzzled. Then, with a serious look on his face, he stared at the radio, ready to listen for this Sister Suxin’s voice. But no sound came for a long time.
“Haha, Fairy Suxin’s Zither Artistry is truly more and more astonishing. Without using Spiritual Power, just casually playing a piece of ‘Gentle Breeze’ can make one feel a gentle breeze surrounding them, as if floating like an immortal.” At that moment, a man’s laughter came from the radio.
Hearing this man’s voice, a feeling of disgust arose in Zhou Yu’s heart. Perhaps because of this person, this Fairy Suxin had stopped playing.
“Thank you for the praise. Senior Brother Zheng, you came uninvited. I don’t know what the matter is.” A clear and ethereal voice came out, making Zhou Yu’s body tremble again.
Such a clear, ethereal voice, as if it could go straight into the depths of one’s soul. This was simply incredible. Fairy Suxin, judging by her name and voice, was probably a beautiful woman.
“Some time ago, I came to the Immortal Sound Sect with my father and was fortunate enough to see Fairy Suxin. I was immediately struck by your celestial beauty. I have also achieved some small success in the art of painting. So, I painted a portrait. Today, I came to invite the Fairy to appreciate this painting and see if my painting can satisfy the Fairy.”
This Senior Brother Zheng said with a laugh. His words seemed quite self-satisfied.
Zhou Yu frowned. This guy was really like a fly. Although his words were polite, his tone seemed to carry a hint of frivolity.
After hearing Fairy Suxin’s gentle breeze-like zither music, and her clear, ethereal voice that could go straight into one’s soul, his heart held some admiration for this Fairy. A portrait… he really somewhat wanted to see this Fairy’s appearance.
“Oh, I didn’t know Senior Brother also dabbled in painting. However, the painting is of me. How could I possibly appreciate it? Please, Senior Brother, take the painting back.” Fairy Suxin said lightly, her voice still as ethereal and pleasant as ever.
“Fairy Suxin, in my view, only you in this world are qualified to appreciate this painting. I will open it now, for the Fairy to see… I… where is the painting I just had in my hand? H-how did it disappear?” Just as Senior Brother Zheng was about to force Fairy Suxin to look at the painting, he suddenly said in a somewhat flustered manner. The painting he had just been holding was gone.
Beside the radio, hearing Senior Brother Zheng’s flustered words, Zhou Yu couldn’t help but let out a ‘pfft’ laugh. He looked at the ball of light above the radio. Within the light, there was a scroll.
He couldn’t help but touch the light. The light disappeared, and the tiny scroll inside also became larger and larger, landing in his hand.
This scroll felt slightly cool to the touch and didn’t look like an ordinary object. After thinking for a moment, Zhou Yu first placed the scroll aside. He would finish listening to this scene first. He wondered if this Senior Brother Zheng, without the painting, would go crazy next.
Thinking of this, a mischievous smile appeared on Zhou Yu’s face. Daring to disrespect Fairy Suxin? Now he’d show him how to behave.
“How is this possible? The painting was just in my hand. Which Senior used the ability to take objects from a distance to take my painting? Please show yourself.” Senior Brother Zheng muttered in confusion, then gathered his wits and called out firmly to his surroundings.
To take the painting from his hand without him noticing at all, only some Cultivation Seniors could do that. Even the Fairy Suxin before him, he was confident she absolutely could not.
At that moment, a flash of surprise also passed through Fairy Suxin’s eyes. Was it her master? Or another Senior? However, the Immortal Sound Sect was currently discussing cooperation with the Ten Thousand Beasts Sect. It shouldn’t be possible for someone to take action and take Senior Brother Zheng’s painting over such a small matter as her being harassed.
Moreover, this Senior Brother Zheng was a very important figure in the Ten Thousand Beasts Sect, carrying some protective Spiritual Artifacts. She felt even her own master couldn’t take the painting from his hand without him noticing.
“Which Senior is playing a joke on me? I only wanted to invite Fairy Suxin to appreciate a painting, nothing more. By acting like this, you have already broken the rules. I trouble you to return the painting. Let’s consider this matter over.” Facing such a Cultivation Senior, he didn’t dare use too harsh a tone. But his words still carried a hint of threat.
Hearing Senior Brother Zheng’s threatening words, Zhou Yu couldn’t help but smile. Return the painting? That wasn’t going to happen. As for the so-called threat, he didn’t take it to heart.
Seeing that the Senior who helped her showed no intention of revealing themselves, Fairy Suxin felt a bit curious. If it was a Senior from her own sect, they wouldn’t remain so silent. She thought it was probably some Senior passing by the Immortal Sound Sect who intervened by chance.
“Since the Senior dares not show themselves for so long, then excuse my rudeness…” Senior Brother Zheng said coldly, as if about to use some trump card. Just then, the radio’s sound abruptly stopped.
