Chapter 15: Little White Fox (Part 2)

Zhou Yu was not far away. He saw that what Little White Fox had thrown on the ground was the purple Grapes. However, the Grapes that looked very tasty to humans did not tempt the three animals, the weasels, at all.

He had originally guessed that these animals might be after the Grapes, but now it seemed that was not the case. He thought that maybe what Little White Fox had discovered initially was not the Grapes, but that it had sensed the Spiritual Energy from the Spirit Gathering Array.

What puzzled him was that even though the little fox was facing such a threat, its parents had not shown up. Considering some earlier events, he guessed that something must have happened to the little fox’s parents.

Surrounded by so many animals, this Little White Fox wanted to use the Grapes to attract their attention. It was very clever, but unfortunately, the Grapes were not very effective.

At that moment, the two weasels looked at each other and began to slowly climb up the tree. These animals often appeared in supernatural stories and were somewhat eerie, yet their appearance was somewhat cute. However, their temper was very fierce. And the Leopard Cat nearby looked similar to a cat but was also very aggressive.

Seeing the two weasels climbing up the tree, Little White Fox in the tree hole hurriedly threw down another Grape. However, the two weasels showed no intention of going back down and continued climbing upward.

Seeing that its trick was not working, Little White Fox leaned half of its body out of the tree hole. It growled softly and scratched the tree with its claws, trying to scare the two weasels away.

Zhou Yu shook his head. Little White Fox was clever, but the other animals were not stupid either. He could not stay hidden any longer under these circumstances, or Little White Fox might be in real danger.

It seemed these small animals were not after the Grapes; perhaps they were fighting over the tree hole where Little White Fox was.

“Ah-da!” Holding a wooden stick, Zhou Yu shouted Li Xiaolong’s signature phrase and rushed out from under the dirt slope with Huzi.

Hearing this loud shout and Huzi’s roar, the two animals near the big tree trembled violently and instinctively ran backward.

The two weasels climbing the tree were also startled by this sudden shout and fell off. After getting up from the ground, they did not retreat. Instead, they crouched low, looking alertly at Zhou Yu and Huzi beside him.

Seeing this, Zhou Yu’s expression turned serious. These two weasels looked difficult to deal with.

At this moment, the two animals that had been scared away by the shout also returned one by one, as if unwilling to leave just like that.

Zhou Yu held the wooden stick, walking forward while swinging it a few times. However, instead of frightening the two weasels, it only made them bare their teeth and growl softly.

Beside him, Huzi kept barking loudly, but the two weasels did not retreat at all.

Zhou Yu couldn’t help but smile wryly. After all, a house dog was just a house dog. If it were one of the hunting dogs that used to follow his relatives into the mountains, scaring off these small animals would be as easy as play.

He felt a certain connection with this Little White Fox, so naturally, he wanted to save it from danger now. He took out a bunch of Grapes from his bag and threw it toward the unknown animal.

Since the Grapes could attract that animal, throwing a bunch now would mean one less opponent.

That animal did indeed pick up the bunch of Grapes, turned its head, and left. Zhou Yu nodded lightly, his gaze fixed tightly on the two weasels and one Leopard Cat, continuously waving his stick.

And Huzi beside him kept barking loudly. Finally, after a short standoff, the two weasels slowly retreated, and the Leopard Cat also left somewhat reluctantly.

Looking around and seeing no other animals, Zhou Yu shook his head and looked toward the tree hole. Little White Fox poked its head out from the hole, gave two soft calls toward him, as if thanking him.

At least it knew to show gratitude, not just take advantage. Zhou Yu smiled lightly, took out another bunch of Grapes from his bag, placed it on the ground, then motioned for Little White Fox to come down and eat.

Seeing the Grapes, Little White Fox hesitated for a moment, then crawled out from the tree hole and jumped down from the tree with agile movements.

Coming to the side of the Grapes, Little White Fox took a glance at Zhou Yu. It did not pick up the Grapes and run away like before, but instead ate them on the spot.

Looking at Little White Fox’s pure, spotless fur, Zhou Yu couldn’t help but reach out his hand and gently stroke Little White Fox’s head.

Little White Fox’s body trembled slightly. It looked up, then continued to focus on eating the Grapes.

Zhou Yu observed the fox carefully. Its fur was as white as snow, seemingly without any other colors, looking very beautiful. It was more natural and adorable than the White Foxes created with special effects on TV.

Suddenly, he noticed that Little White Fox’s hind leg seemed a bit off, trembling lightly all the time. He quickly walked over to take a look, and his expression changed.

There was a wound on Little White Fox’s right hind leg. It looked like it had been bitten by some animal, and it was still bleeding.

Thinking for a moment, Zhou Yu took out his keys. Using the small scissors on them, he cut a piece of cloth from his clothes. Then he gently moved closer to Little White Fox’s hind leg, planning to wrap the wound first.

Little White Fox seemed to sense something and hurriedly walked a few steps to the side. It licked its wound with its tongue and looked at Zhou Yu with a cautious expression.

Zhou Yu smiled, raised the cloth in his hand, then pointed at its hind leg. At the same time, he pushed the unfinished Grapes nearby toward it.

Little White Fox tilted its head, thought for a bit, looked at the Grapes again, then slowly walked over and continued eating the Grapes.

It seemed this little fellow understood that someone was being kind to it. Zhou Yu slowly wrapped the cloth around Little White Fox’s injured hind leg. During this process, its body kept trembling slightly.

After wrapping it, Zhou Yu used the scissors to cut a small cloth strip and gently tied it on. Then he patted Little White Fox’s head.

Little White Fox quickly finished the Grapes. It turned its head to look at the cloth strip on its hind leg, tried walking a bit, and seemed to feel somewhat uncomfortable. Then, it called out to Zhou Yu twice, swiftly scurried up the tree, poked its head out from the tree hole again, and looked at Zhou Yu.

Zhou Yu couldn’t help but smile and shake his head. He had intended to take Little White Fox back for further treatment, but it seemed impossible now. The little fellow was very cautious.

He wondered what had happened to its parents, leaving this not-yet-grown youngster behind. Fortunately, this place was not far from human settlements and had no natural enemies of foxes. Otherwise, this Little White Fox probably wouldn’t have survived until now.

Waving at Little White Fox, Zhou Yu slowly left with Huzi. Behind them, Little White Fox in the tree hole still secretly watched them with a pair of bright, big eyes until they disappeared.
