Chapter 86: Leaping Over The Fault
Chapter 86: Leaping Over The Fault
The group chased after him and indeed saw Ghost Song shoot out a rope-like tool, hook it onto the giant tree’s trunk, and swing down onto a branch pathway below. He glanced back at them once, then his figure flickered and disappeared.
“He got away. He’s really skilled!” Golden Phoenix gritted her teeth in frustration, voicing Chen Mo’s thoughts.
This Assassin Ghost Song was the most powerful person he had encountered in the Game so far!
He set up two Traps, then had Little Demon and Golden Phoenix attack to block Ghost Song’s other paths. If Ghost Song wanted to attack them, he would have to take one of the two trapped routes.
But Chen Mo hadn’t expected Ghost Song to actually take those two paths and, while in Stealth, trigger the Traps without harming himself!
However, Chen Mo was one step ahead. The two Traps were only two steps apart. Ghost Song triggered the Basic Trap, but Chen Mo had used the Trap Chain skill to link it with the Shockwave Trap. When the Basic Trap triggered, the Shockwave Trap followed.
Even so, Ghost Song ultimately managed to escape. It had to be said, facing attacks from him, Golden Phoenix, and Little Demon, it was difficult to do better than Ghost Song in that situation.
“Incredible!”
The battle had only lasted a little over twenty seconds. June Rain finally reacted and mumbled in awe.
Within those twenty-plus seconds, Chen Mo and his companions had exchanged several rapid clashes with Ghost Song. A single misstep in any of them would have meant death, showing how intense the fight was!
During those twenty-plus seconds, June Rain realized she hadn’t been able to do anything, and she felt somewhat ashamed.
Although she knew she was an ordinary Player and couldn’t compare to expert Players, she never imagined she would fail to react while her teammates were fighting.
“Forget it, he’s gone. Let’s keep helping Little Rain find Eliya.” Knowing there was no use in regret, Golden Phoenix didn’t dwell on Ghost Song’s escape.
The four of them continued moving upward through the Giant Wood Maze. The path grew narrower, and they could hardly see any other Players around.
“I’ve never been any higher than this,” June Rain took a deep breath.
Her previous team was average in strength, and reaching this point was their limit.
But the current team members were exceptionally powerful. The monsters ahead couldn’t stop their progress!
The path narrowed to the point where only two people could pass at a time. Monkey monsters appeared in batches, but under the fierce attacks from Chen Mo and Golden Phoenix, the monsters couldn’t keep up with the killing speed.
June Rain was left dumbfounded. What kind of speed was this? These monkeys seemed as flimsy as paper, even though they had been tough opponents for her previous team.
Moreover, June Rain also knew that Chen Mo hadn’t even called out his Boss underling yet!
“How much Blood of Curse have you collected?” Chen Mo suddenly asked after killing another wave of monkeys.
“11 drops.”
“I have 8.”
“15 for me.”
The three answered in turn.
“Isn’t that a bit too much?” Chen Mo’s expression turned strange. His backpack clearly contained 32 drops of Blood of Curse!
That meant the four of them together had 66 drops of Blood of Curse!
Generally, opening a Sealing Magic Array to release an Area Elite required 200 to 300 drops of Blood of Curse. For just the four of them to gather nearly one-third of that in a little over two hours seemed too easy.
“It’s not surprising,” Golden Phoenix, who was well-informed, explained. “If you think of an Undeveloped Area as a circle, the Blood of Curse is distributed from the inside out across the circle, with a roughly fixed amount in each part. That means, even if you kill countless monsters in the outermost areas, you won’t gather enough Blood of Curse to activate the Sealing Magic Array. Since the Giant Wood Maze is higher up and has a fault, not even the Sealing Magic Array can be found here. No Guilds are willing to waste time here, and it’s not suitable for most Players to level up. Our team is probably the only one that has reached this height, so the Blood of Curse can only drop for us. If more teams were killing monsters here to level up, the amount of Blood of Curse we get would be significantly reduced.”
“I see,” Chen Mo understood. With this setting, those without strength simply couldn’t explore Undeveloped Areas. Those with strength, by getting ahead of others, could seize a huge advantage.
June Rain didn’t know the way further up, and Chen Mo, Golden Phoenix, and the others were also here for the first time. The three of them started wandering aimlessly, occasionally hitting dead ends and having to turn back.
Over two hours passed, and there was still no sign of Eliya. However, they had gained a fair amount of Blood of Curse and Experience Points.
The amount of Blood of Curse was close to 150 drops. At this rate, in another hour, they could reach 200 drops!
If they could find the Sealing Magic Array, they might be able to summon an Area Elite!
If they killed an Area Elite, as a four-person team, who knew what rewards they might get!
Chen Mo couldn’t help but fantasize a little. However, he had never paid attention to the rewards for exploring an Undeveloped Area and had no idea what they might be.
“We’ve finally reached it—the fault in the Giant Wood Maze.”
Another half hour passed, and the four arrived in front of a branch pathway, stopping in their tracks.
This path was a dead end, yet not entirely. Every Player who had been here knew that if the huge dried branch hanging overhead could be lowered, they could cross to the other side and enter the Core Area of the Giant Wood Maze.
But the mechanism to lower the huge branch was on the opposite side. Countless Guilds had come here, tried every method, and ultimately had to give up.
“Never mind, Eliya is on the other side. We can’t find her,” June Rain sighed in disappointment. She had searched everywhere below; only the Core Area across the fault remained.
She had finally found such skilled people to help her with this Quest, but in the end, they were faced with this impassable fault that no one had ever crossed.
Chen Mo didn’t speak but frowned as he looked across.
The gap was over seven meters wide. He had a Double Jump Potion—could he drink it and jump across?
No!
In an instant, Chen Mo had his answer.
With a running start, he could only jump about three meters. He wasn’t sure about the effects of the Red-Eyed Rabbit Potion, but the second jump couldn’t be farther than the first. With two jumps, he would cover at most six meters, leaving a gap of one or two meters. He couldn’t make it.
However… Chen Mo recalled his earlier battle with Ghost Song. He looked at his skills and suddenly thought of a method that might work!
No! It would definitely work!
Chen Mo’s mind raced. After a quick calculation, he knew that as long as the Red-Eyed Rabbit Potion’s double jump ability wasn’t too disappointing, he could definitely make it!
“Wait, I have a way to cross!”
Chen Mo called out to June Rain and Golden Phoenix, who had turned to leave.
“It’s so far—you have a way?” Golden Phoenix was skeptical. It was over seven meters, nearly eight. How could anyone jump that far unless they moved like Spider-Man, like that Ghost Song!
“Listen to what I say. I need your cooperation. Whether I live or die depends on you.”
Chen Mo explained his plan to Golden Phoenix and the others. All three looked at him with surprise, and even Little Demon, who usually seemed shy and didn’t talk much, couldn’t help but glance at Chen Mo a few more times.
Taking out a dark-red Potion, Chen Mo couldn’t help but take an extra look.
This was his only Double Jump Potion. He had planned to save it, but now he had to use it. He really didn’t want to part with it.
He drank it down. As the Potion entered his stomach, Chen Mo immediately felt his body become lighter and more powerful.
Golden Phoenix and the others made way for him. Chen Mo took a running start, let out a loud shout, and leaped from the hundreds-of-meters-high giant tree!
Three meters and twenty centimeters!
Chen Mo jumped farther than in his normal state!
While in mid-air, Chen Mo jumped again!
Another three meters and twenty centimeters!
But there was still over a meter left to the branch pathway on the other side!
The double jump ability had been used. Suspended in mid-air, it seemed Chen Mo was about to fall to his death.
But at that moment, with a boom from behind him, a shockwave appeared, forcefully pushing Chen Mo two more meters toward the other branch!
