Chapter 85: Ghost Song
Chapter 85: Ghost Song
“What quest are you doing up here?” After introducing Chen Mo to Little Demon, Golden Phoenix asked.
“Helping her find an NPC.” Chen Mo pointed at June Rain.
“Find an NPC? Heh, I’m also here looking for someone. How about we go together, keep each other company on the way.” Golden Phoenix was stunned for a moment, then sneered.
“Who offended you?” Chen Mo saw clear and intense killing intent in Golden Phoenix’s sneer.
“It would be fine if they just offended me, but that guy dared to kill Little Demon and ran to the upper levels of the maze. I’ll dig him out even if I have to search this whole maze!”
“Forget it, I didn’t lose any equipment.” Little Demon tugged at Golden Phoenix’s sleeve.
“No! That guy even killed someone as cute as you, Little Demon. He’s simply inhuman! I will punish him on behalf of the moon!” Golden Phoenix declared righteously.
Chen Mo rolled his eyes. He knew Golden Phoenix’s reason was purely nonsense; she just wanted to get revenge for Little Demon.
“Stop talking nonsense, join the party and let’s go.” Chen Mo sent a party invitation to Golden Phoenix and Little Demon.
He knew that Golden Phoenix wanted to party with him absolutely not to borrow his strength for revenge. Given Golden Phoenix’s personality, even if he wanted to help and kill that player for revenge, she probably wouldn’t allow it.
June Rain politely greeted the two, and then the four of them formed a party and headed upwards.
The undeveloped Giant Wood Maze, though called a maze by players, wasn’t a true maze. It’s just that the passages here were complex and intertwined, making it easy for new players to get lost. After coming a few times and learning the paths, they wouldn’t get lost again.
June Rain had been here a few times for her quest and knew the directions, so she wouldn’t lead them into dead ends.
The only obstacles on the road were the monkey monsters in the narrow passages.
However, Chen Mo, Golden Phoenix, and Little Demon all had decent equipment. June Rain was a Priest. Chen Mo just needed to summon a Mutant Slime to block the front; no matter how many monkey monsters came, they weren’t enough for the four of them to kill.
They hadn’t found Eliya or the guy who killed Little Demon yet, but the party gained quite a bit of Experience.
System Notification: You obtained one drop of “Blood of Curse”!
On the way, an occasional system notification sounded, and Chen Mo obtained quite a few drops of Blood of Curse.
Killing monsters in the Undeveloped Area had a chance to drop Blood of Curse. Blood of Curse was a drop of dark red blood, a quest item that could not be traded or discarded, and would disappear after 24 hours.
Logically, the drop rate for Blood of Curse wasn’t high, but Chen Mo was surprised. After killing monsters, his chance of obtaining Blood of Curse seemed much higher than others.
Golden Phoenix and Little Demon only obtained 2 drops of Blood of Curse, while Chen Mo obtained a full 7 drops.
After careful observation, Chen Mo found that many of the Blood of Curse drops were obtained through his other mutant talent skill “Mutant Plunder”.
After coming to Shadow Main City, Chen Mo had killed pitifully few monsters, only some Black Flower Demons. When killing Black Fox Demons, Mutant Plunder was hardly triggered. It seemed the Novice Level Plunder skill could significantly increase the acquisition rate of quest items.
“There’s an NPC.” Entering a wooden room Great Hall and killing the charging monkeys, Chen Mo saw a skinny old NPC man.
“I asked that NPC before, he said he hadn’t seen Eliya.” June Rain shook her head.
“What NPCs say isn’t necessarily true. Little Demon, go test if what he says is true or false!” Golden Phoenix, however, chuckled lightly.
“How can you tell the difference?” Chen Mo asked curiously.
Back in the Hell-level Talent Trial, Golden Phoenix was so sure that Mogill was the Dungeon Guardian; he had guessed she had some special method.
Golden Phoenix didn’t hide it and had Little Demon display an item.
Lie Detection Coin: Spend 1 Gold Coin for a 50% chance to determine if an NPC’s statement is true or false. This item can be used at most three times per day, and at most three times per NPC.
What a magical item!
Chen Mo was also seeing the Lie Detection Coin for the first time and couldn’t help but marvel. June Rain beside him also widened her eyes.
“Spending 10 Gold Coins increases the chance to 70%. 100 Gold Coins increases it to 90%!” Golden Phoenix explained.
Damn, this world is full of rich people everywhere!
Chen Mo was speechless. First, there was someone who spent a hundred thousand to hire him to do a quest for someone he didn’t know, and now there was a beauty spending large amounts of Gold Coins to test if NPCs were lying.
After asking June Rain for the name of the NPC she was looking for, Little Demon led the way over: “Old grandpa, have you seen a little girl named Eliya pass by here?”
“No.” The skinny old NPC man replied indifferently.
June Rain looked nervously at Little Demon, who had already used the Lie Detection Coin.
“He lied.” Little Demon said after glancing at the system notification she received.
Why the NPC old man lied, the group didn’t know. They circled around him for a while but couldn’t trigger any event, so they had to give up. However, they finally had a lead on Eliya, which lifted the spirits of both Chen Mo and June Rain.
The four continued forward.
“Go die!” Arriving at another wooden Great Hall, an angry roar suddenly came from ahead.
Someone was PKing!
Golden Phoenix’s eyes sharpened, and her figure suddenly darted forward. Little Demon, Chen Mo, and the other immediately followed.
Their field of view suddenly opened up. Inside the Great Hall, five Players had already fallen, leaving only a thick-skinned Shield Warrior fiercely battling a nimble Assassin.
“Sister Phoenix, it’s him! That Assassin called Ghost Song!” Little Demon took one look and recognized this Assassin as the one who killed her!
Ghost Song had a thin build, wore black leather armor, and had a very ordinary appearance. Placed in a crowd, people who didn’t know him would definitely not notice him.
Seeing Chen Mo’s party of four appear, Ghost Song glanced over lightly, still calmly dealing with the Shield Warrior, seemingly waiting for his skills to cool down.
“Hmph!” Golden Phoenix let out a cold snort and suddenly raised the giant golden bow in her hand!
She was a violent-style Archer who had learned the “Strong Bow” talent. The giant bow in her hand was a purple quality weapon!
They were already quite high up. The wooden Great Hall wasn’t wide. Golden Phoenix was less than thirty meters from Ghost Song. Under the Strong Bow talent, the Black Iron Arrow shot by Golden Phoenix had astonishing speed. With the players’ current Attributes, it was impossible to dodge!
The Black Iron Arrow whistled through the air, almost instantly arriving in front of Ghost Song. But Ghost Song very calmly took a slight step sideways. The Shield Warrior beside him, as if to block this arrow for him, instantly charged over!
Bang!
-420!
With that one arrow, the Shield Warrior, who already had little Health Points left, was killed by Golden Phoenix!
They encountered an expert!
Chen Mo’s pupils contracted. He knew this seemingly coincidental moment contained too many elements!
“Let’s see where you escape to!” Golden Phoenix moved her bow again, shooting a Homing Arrow.
At this distance, a Homing Arrow couldn’t be dodged!
But Chen Mo knew Golden Phoenix’s arrow wouldn’t be effective!
Sure enough, Ghost Song moved his feet, and his figure quietly disappeared!
Stealth!
“Be careful!” Chen Mo shouted.
Other players would use Stealth to escape, but Chen Mo knew this Assassin called Ghost Song was definitely coming to kill them!
Moving his hand, Chen Mo quickly laid down two Traps in succession, placing them to the side.
At the same time, Chen Mo raised his Hand Crossbow and shot an arrow towards an empty spot.
The arrow missed. Chen Mo ignored it and shot another arrow.
“Little Demon, Phoenix, attack at the coordinates I say!” Chen Mo shouted in the party channel.
“Okay!” Golden Phoenix understood Chen Mo’s meaning and immediately nodded in agreement.
Chen Mo quickly stated two coordinates for the two to attack. They attacked accordingly, but like Chen Mo, their attacks missed.
Boom!
A Trap in front of Chen Mo suddenly exploded!
Ghost Song had stepped on this Trap, but the Trap exploded, and no figure appeared around!
Ghost Song had actually used some method to intentionally trigger Chen Mo’s Trap and then retreated unscathed!
However, what Ghost Song didn’t expect was that when this Trap exploded, a Trap next to it also exploded simultaneously. After this Trap exploded, it also generated a shockwave!
Shockwave Trap!
“Kill!” Chen Mo shouted!
Ghost Song was knocked back, his Stealth broken. Golden Phoenix and Little Demon both focused their fire together!
With Chen Mo’s attack added, Ghost Song was hit by all three. He would lose at least more than half his Health Points. Without Stealth, he couldn’t escape from the hands of Golden Phoenix and Little Demon, two ranged classes!
“Very good, I remember you!”
Ghost Song glanced at Chen Mo, knowing he had been careless this time.
After speaking, using the momentum from being knocked back by the shockwave, he rapidly retreated.
Chen Mo’s Hand Crossbow only had a twelve-meter range and ultimately failed to hit Ghost Song. Golden Phoenix’s attack was a bit later than Chen Mo’s, but its speed was fast. Ghost Song couldn’t dodge Golden Phoenix’s arrow.
Bang!
A Damage of over three hundred appeared above his head. But Chen Mo was shocked to discover that Ghost Song, shot by Golden Phoenix’s arrow from behind, was knocked back another three meters. Then, before Little Demon’s attack arrived, he took a step and jumped down from the edge of the Giant Wood Great Hall!
Of the three attacks, Ghost Song was ultimately only hit by Golden Phoenix!
More importantly, he escaped from this Great Hall!
Chen Mo didn’t think Ghost Song would die from jumping down!
