Chapter 79: The Follow-Up Quest

Chen Mo’s eyes narrowed when he saw the giant flower mutate. The quests from the two major guilds were no simple task.

However, the giant flower turning from snow-white to pitch-black was only the beginning of the event.

Under the watchful eyes of dozens of people, shortly after the giant flower on the Blossoming Giant Tree turned pitch-black, a gentle breeze blew, and the flower’s delicate petals drifted down one by one, scattering below.

“Oh no!”

As the black petals fell, everyone’s faces changed almost instantly, and Chen Mo was no exception!

When these black petals drifted down onto the white Flower Fairies, their petite, doll-like bodies began to grow rapidly, transforming in the blink of an eye into beautiful, mature women. The white flowers on their backs also turned black.

Within a radius of several hundred meters, all the white Flower Fairies simultaneously transformed into Black Flower Demons!

Not only that, but these Black Flower Demons all had red eyes, entering a frenzied state. Each one was at Level 15 or 16!

“What’s going on?”

“They’re too strong, we can’t beat them! Run!”

In the distance, the low-level Players fighting the white Flower Fairies had no idea what was happening, but as soon as they engaged these frenzied Black Flower Demons, they realized they were no match at all.

Many Players tried to flee, but in an instant, the area was filled with red-eyed Black Flower Demons. They barely managed to run a few steps before being surrounded by a large group of Black Flower Demons, each striking them down with a single blow from their Daggers.

The Daggers in the hands of the Black Flower Demons, originally silver, now glowed fiery red!

“Be careful, they’re closing in!” Ouyang Daniú shouted, telling Xiao Cǎo to hide behind him.

Xiao Cǎo was a Priest, only at Level 12. These frenzied Black Flower Demons had combat power above Level 15, far beyond what Xiao Cǎo could handle.

The group quickly retreated. Seeing that not all the Black Flower Demons in the distance were converging on them, they breathed a sigh of relief. If that had happened, no matter how strong they were, they would have been doomed.

Hundreds of Level 15 monsters—dozens of them were no match, not even enough to fill the monsters’ teeth!

“Hehe, all Black Flower Demons? This is perfect!”

Against Level 15 Black Flower Demons, most Level 12 Players would only be able to watch helplessly. But Chen Mo and the members of the Daniú Guild had no trouble fighting them as a team.

Chen Mo’s team killed a red-eyed, frenzied Black Flower Demon and discovered it still counted toward the quest. They were immediately delighted.

He only needed to kill a dozen more to complete the quest, which wouldn’t take much time.

Chen Mo attacked with full force, coordinating with the surrounding Daniú Guild members, and soon completed the Hunter Badge quest.

“Guild Leader Daniú, my quest is done. Do you need help?” Chen Mo asked.

At the moment the giant flower mutated, the number of Black Flower Demons was at its peak. Now, the most dangerous period had passed. Although there were still many Black Flower Demons in the distance, the members of the two major guilds, the Daniú Guild and the Blood War Guild, had no problem wiping them all out.

Chen Mo himself wanted to stay and help. After all, without Xiao Cǎo’s assistance, completing the quest would have taken him several more hours, and if luck wasn’t on his side, he might even have failed.

However, Ouyang Daniú hadn’t mentioned anything about their guild’s quest, almost as if he didn’t want Chen Mo to know. Chen Mo felt it wasn’t right to stay any longer.

But Chen Mo had misunderstood Ouyang Daniú. The quests for the Daniú Guild and the Blood War Guild had only truly begun when the giant flower mutated. Before that, the two guild leaders only knew that their quests would be triggered here today. They had no idea what the quests entailed until the event occurred.

“No need, go ahead with your own business. The quest isn’t a problem, and those brats from the Blood War Guild are no match for us!” Ouyang Daniú glanced at his quest and replied with confidence.

Chen Mo nodded, bid farewell to Xiao Cǎo, and then swiftly slipped through the encirclement of Black Flower Demons with his agile movements.

Chen Mo was a little curious about what kind of quest the two major guilds had triggered, but it clearly had nothing to do with him.

These Black Flower Demons were quest monsters and gave no Experience when killed. Even if Chen Mo stayed until the end, it would be hard for him to gain any benefits.

About ten minutes later, Chen Mo returned to the Hunter Guild to find Alchi and turn in his quest.

“So fast! How is that possible?” Alchi had been expecting Chen Mo to fail the quest. He never thought Chen Mo would complete it in less than four hours.

“Old man, no need for chatter. My time is precious!” Chen Mo said bluntly. Since the old man already disliked him, there was no need to be polite.

“Hmph! Rude brat!” Alchi was indeed furious, but since Chen Mo had completed the quest, he had no choice but to give him a Hunter Badge.

System Notification: You have completed the quest “Hunter Badge”!

System Notification: You have obtained the Hunter Badge (Level 1)!

Hunter Badge (Level 1):

Description: A symbol of Hunter status. Only those with a Hunter Badge can accept profession quests at the Hunter Guild and earn Guild Contribution. Bound, cannot be traded or discarded. Takes effect when equipped.

Restrictions: None

Attributes:

Strength +3

Constitution +3

Agility +3

Intelligence +3

Spirit +3

Special Effect: Can designate one profession skill to gain 5% additional skill proficiency when used. Can change the designated skill once per day.

The System Notification sounded, and the Hunter Badge was finally in his hands.

“So that’s how it is.”

Alchi seemed to have figured out how Chen Mo completed the quest so quickly. He called out to Chen Mo, who was about to leave.

“Young one, I have a quest here. If you complete it, your Hunter Badge will directly upgrade to Level 2. Are you interested?”

Such a good quest offered proactively?

Chen Mo looked at Alchi, knowing the old man surely had ill intentions. However, the reward of upgrading the Hunter Badge by one level was very tempting.

To upgrade the Hunter Badge, one had to accept Hunter profession quests at the Hunter Guild, earn Guild Contribution, and only when the Contribution was sufficient could the badge be upgraded.

Upgrading from Level 1 to Level 2 would take about 12 days. Currently, only a few Hunters had upgraded their badges to Level 2. If he could complete Alchi’s quest, he could save nearly half a month.

When the Hunter Badge reached Level 2, the Attributes would increase to 5 points each, and he could designate two profession skills, which was very useful.

“What’s the quest? I won’t accept it if you don’t tell me!” Chen Mo said firmly. This damned old man was trying to trick him again—no way! He could resist this temptation!

“It’s a simple quest. I just received news that the Flower Fairies in the northern wilderness have rioted. Adventurers are needed to eliminate them. As long as all the rioting Flower Fairies are wiped out, your quest will be complete.” Alchi smiled kindly. Anyone who didn’t know better would think the old man was looking out for Chen Mo.

Chen Mo’s mind raced. This quest seemed acceptable! But just to be safe, he asked, “So, I just need to eliminate all the rioting Flower Fairies? It doesn’t have to be me who does it, right?”

“Of course.” Alchi nodded.

“Alright, I’ll take it!” Chen Mo accepted the quest without hesitation.

Hehe, you damned old man, still trying to trick me! Too bad you don’t know that two major guilds are already crazily wiping out the Black Flower Demons. With so many Players, word will spread quickly, and eliminating those Flower Fairies will be a piece of cake!

The quest also had a time limit—two hours and thirty-nine minutes—which was very strange.

But convinced that completing the quest was a sure thing, Chen Mo didn’t pay it much mind.

However, when Chen Mo left the Hunter Guild, passed by the Resurrection Point on his way out of the city, and saw members of the Daniú Guild and the Blood War Guild emerging from the Resurrection Point one after another, he realized things weren’t as simple as he thought.
