Chapter 74: The Powerful Guild
Chapter 74: The Powerful Guild
Blood Refining Art!
Chen Mo quickly scanned the description of the Blood Refining Art skill and knew immediately that his one hundred Gold Coins were totally worth it!
Even in ordinary games, potions that granted monster abilities were incredibly powerful. In Genesis, monsters were especially strong, and many possessed special abilities. Getting one of those abilities would be incredibly useful in countless situations!
The only question was, how long would potions made with this Blood Refining Art last, and how effective would the abilities be?
Chen Mo soon wondered about something else. Looking at the skill description, this Blood Refining Art didn’t seem bad at all.
The dismantling skill taught by Boboer was forbidden because dismantling equipment weakened the Human Race. But the Blood Refining Art clearly enhanced human strength. So why was it banned among the Humans?
“Master Selena, why can’t anyone among the Human Race know about Blood Refining Art?” Chen Mo asked curiously.
“That’s none of your business, and I don’t want you to know. Just remember not to let too many people know you can use Blood Refining Art.” Selena waved her hand dismissively, shooing Chen Mo away.
Chen Mo really wanted to ask more, but seeing Selena’s expression, he knew it was pointless. He gave up.
If there was really something wrong with this Blood Refining Art, he’d probably figure it out once he used some Monster Blood to brew a potion.
…
“What just happened?”
“Even though she wasn’t attacked, Selena helped him kill someone!”
The players watching the scene hadn’t expected Chen Mo and Selena to talk for long. They mostly thought Chen Mo would be killed by the group led by the burly Warrior. No one expected Selena to suddenly strike, dealing incredible Damage and killing all five men instantly. They were left staring wide-eyed.
Now that they saw Chen Mo turning to leave, they finally snapped out of their shock.
The five men had dropped potions and even some equipment. Several players dashed forward to grab the loot as soon as they recovered.
A few others rushed over to Chen Mo, bowing and scraping. “Big brother, what happened just now? Did you get a Quest from Selena?”
Anyone with eyes could see Selena treated Chen Mo completely differently than she treated others. She actually stepped in to help him when someone tried to PK him? It was unbelievable!
Chen Mo ignored these people. What a joke! Forget that he didn’t exactly know the specific conditions to trigger the Quest; he wouldn’t tell them even if he did! This Blood Refining Art was something he’d worked hard to obtain. The fewer people who knew about it, the better.
He remembered that three others had gained Selena’s favour before him. He wondered if those three had also learned the Blood Refining Art.
Moving swiftly, Chen Mo used his exceptional speed to shake off the surrounding players. He chased in the direction the little Priest had fled.
He didn’t need to intervene, but that little Priest was the only one among the crowd who had tried to help him. He couldn’t just let her get killed. Besides, that Archer had also wanted him dead. He couldn’t let him get away with it.
But when he reached the tree roots where the little Priest had vanished, he couldn’t find them. The players had been too focused on his fight with the five men; no one noticed what happened to the Priest. Chen Mo couldn’t even find anyone to ask about them.
Helpless, Chen Mo did his best. He picked a likely direction based on instinct and gave chase. After running for a while, he realized he must have chosen wrong.
Chen Mo shook his head and didn’t waste more time searching. The forest was huge. Trying to find one person without any direction was like searching for a needle in a haystack.
A Priest was fragile. After all this time, she was either dead or had escaped successfully.
He turned back towards Shadow Main City. He needed to message Lian Hongyu and ask if she had Monster Blood. He wanted to test what this Blood Refining Art skill could do immediately.
…
In the forest, opposite the direction Chen Mo had chased.
Chen Mo guessed wrong this time. The Archer had chased for a long while but still hadn’t managed to kill the little Priest.
Even though he had shot her several times with Homing Arrows along the way, the little Priest had good equipment. Hit, she simply cast a heal spell on herself, drank a Potion, and was fighting fit again. It was like his arrows had never hit her.
Current Player Levels were still low, so differences between classes weren’t that clear yet. At higher Levels, an Archer’s movement speed would surely be faster than a Priest’s. But right now, they were very similar under the same conditions. The little Priest’s gear was slightly better, giving her comparable movement speed to the Archer. The Archer was only able to prevent her escape because of his ranged attacks.
Suddenly, light flashed among the roots ahead. A monster spawned.
The little Priest got a big shock. Monsters were definitely faster than Players. If one caught you, you were dead. Panicking, she stopped and turned to flee in another direction.
But the delay was enough for the Archer Player to catch up.
“You pesky girl! Where do you think you’re escaping to now!” The Archer Player snarled, laughing wildly.
He was an Archer who had chosen the “Strong Bow” gift. Unlike those with the “Frost Hand” gift, “Strong Bow” Archers were called violent Archers by players.
Just like Warriors had distinctions between greatswords, heavy swords, short swords, etc., Archers’ bows and arrows also differed – like giant bows and light bows. The System didn’t force specific styles to use specific bows. But among the three main Archer styles, those specializing in ultra-long-range critical strikes (“Hawkeye” gift) or crowd control (“Frost Hand” gift) struggled if they used giant bows; their attack speed became slow, hindering their style’s strengths. Only the violent Archers who chose the “Strong Bow” gift could effectively use giant bows.
Choosing the Strong Bow gift had another perk.
When facing enemies within thirty meters, arrows shot by the Archer gained tremendous speed, making them nearly impossible to dodge! Plus, they dealt an extra 10% Damage!
That brief obstruction by the monster allowed the Archer Player to close within thirty meters of the Priest.
Attacks from a Strong Bow Archer were powerful. The Archer Player was confident he only needed a few shots to finally kill this stubborn little Priest he’d chased for so long. He took aim and fired.
The little Priest frantically tried to dodge, but it was too late.
-190!
A single shot dealt nearly 200 Damage! She’d be dead in just a few more hits! Though a female Player, the little Priest wasn’t clumsy; otherwise, she wouldn’t have lasted this long under his pursuit. But against such a potent gift, she was helpless. Another arrow struck, reducing her Health Points by over half. Two more shots and she was done!
Even as she ran desperately, she couldn’t increase her speed. The Archer Player sneered, readying his next attack.
“Which useless waste of space has got some nerve, daring to bully our Xiao Cǎo?!”
Suddenly, a group of brawny figures charged through several large roots.
The Archer Player glanced over and froze in alarm. Over ten imposing figures rushed towards him, each a burly man towering over 1.8 meters tall.
The Daniú Guild!
The Archer Player instantly recalled a Guild that had been a hot topic within Shadow Main City lately! The Daniú Guild – a terribly ordinary name, but it was one of the fewer than ten second-tier Guilds in the game, and a notoriously famous one. Because all its members were massive, strong men! Was this little Priest one of them? A chill ran down the Archer‘s spine. Forgetting about the almost-dead Priest, he turned and ran.
“You killed Xiao Cǎo this morning trying to drop her loot, and now you try again! You lowlife think you can just leave? Think Ouyang Daniú is easy to bully?!” Ouyang Daniú, leading the charge, watched the fleeing Archer’s back and laughed coldly.
Among the giant men, one grinned savagely. His huge body became momentarily blurry, then he shot towards the Archer Player with shocking speed!
“Brother!” Xiao Cǎo cried happily, throwing herself into Ouyang Daniú’s arms.
“Ha! Wait and see your big brother avenge you, Xiao Cǎo!” Ouyang Daniú chuckled, gently stroking her soft black hair. “Kill him! Don’t let him escape!” Ouyang Daniú roared.
This was outrageous! How dare someone bully the sister he treasured like a gem?! They didn’t know their place!
“Don’t worry, Boss Niu! Anyone bullying Sister Xiao Cǎo is signing their death warrant!” one giant man laughed. In the distance, the first giant caught up to the Archer. Blades flashed! Several huge Damage numbers floated over the Archer Player’s head! He barely had time to react before he collapsed to the ground!
…
“Monster Blood?”
Inside Shadow Main City, Lian Hongyu received Chen Mo’s message and couldn’t help but feel a little puzzled.
