Chapter 6: Attribute Distribution
Chapter 6: Attribute Distribution
Two meters away, within reach. At such a time, many people would probably feel anxious and panicked.
Setting up a trap while moving required more focus. If he got distracted even slightly, the skill would definitely fail.
But Chen Mo remained as calm as ever. As a hacker, the more critical the moment, the more he needed calm judgment. Otherwise, he would face complete failure. Right now, it was just a game. If he failed, he could try again. The two White Goblins right in front of him did not put any pressure on him at all.
His hand moved with precise movements. Just as the two White Goblins tried to get closer, the trap was completed. Then Chen Mo threw the trap at them forcefully.
Boom!
An explosion sound was heard. Two damages of over twenty floated above the White Goblins’ heads!
Moreover, the White Goblins’ footsteps slowed down together!
The moment their footsteps slowed, Chen Mo’s eyes suddenly brightened. He had successfully escaped the cave!
Without the cave’s restrictions, even if the two White Goblins chased him now, Chen Mo could rely on the Basic Healing Technique to hold out until he reached the two large rocks ahead.
Not to mention, the last trap also triggered a Crippling Effect. The two White Goblins had no chance of catching up to him.
Low-level monsters had low intelligence. It was fine when they chased in a straight line inside the cave, but once there were obstacles, their intelligence was completely exposed.
Leading the two White Goblins to the edge of the large rocks, Chen Mo wanted to use the two large rocks to slowly wear them down. But he found that the White Goblins’ intelligence was really worrying. Chen Mo led them around the rocks, but they did not directly follow him. Instead, they sometimes hesitated whether to chase to the left or go to the right to block Chen Mo.
Because of this, they naturally had no chance of catching up to Chen Mo at all.
The five traps earlier had already taken over a hundred Health Points from the two White Goblins. While the two White Goblins chased him indecisively, Chen Mo focused his attacks on one of them using the Hand Crossbow and traps. It did not take long before one White Goblin was killed by Chen Mo.
System Notification: You gained 30 Experience Points!
“So much experience!”
The White Goblin died. Chen Mo took a look. His experience bar instantly increased by over 20%.
That meant, by killing the level 6 White Goblins in the cave, he could reach level 2 and still have some left.
After reaching level 2, his Attributes would improve quite a bit. Then dealing with the Black Goblins in the valley would be much easier.
There was still one White Goblin chasing behind him, but this White Goblin only had a little over two hundred Health Points left. Since two White Goblins could not do anything to Chen Mo, one was even less of a threat. Chen Mo did not need much effort. Using the obstacles, he easily killed this White Goblin.
His experience bar increased by over 20% again. Moreover, after this White Goblin died, it dropped three copper coins.
Three copper coins were naturally pitifully few. But Chen Mo was penniless now, so he picked them up without courtesy. In the game, a single coin could really trouble a hero.
After gaining some experience, the next tasks became much easier.
But whether he could successfully lure the White Goblins out and kill them still depended on the Crippling Effect of the trap triggering. This 10% trigger rate was not high, but not low either. Whether it triggered or not depended on luck. Chen Mo died twice before he managed to kill the second batch of White Goblins.
Players below level 10 had no penalty for death. After Chen Mo killed the second batch of White Goblins, his experience bar was nearly 90%. He would level up after killing one more White Goblin.
Chen Mo had good luck dealing with the last two White Goblins. He successfully lured them outside in just one attempt.
System Notification: Level increased!
System Notification: Your basic Attributes have improved!
—Strength +3
—Constitution +2
—Agility +2
—Intelligence +2
—Spirit +1
After easily killing the fifth White Goblin, a white light flashed on Chen Mo’s body. Chen Mo felt a warm current flow through his body. The Health Points he had lost instantly recovered to full.
But what Chen Mo cared about most was the improvement in basic Attributes. This was the key to dealing with the Black Goblins next.
Looking at the improved Attributes, Chen Mo found that after the Hunter class leveled up, the basic Attributes improved quite evenly.
Every time a Player leveled up, they gained ten basic Attribute points. These ten basic Attribute points were fixed by the System into different Attribute points based on the class. Players could not change this.
But besides the ten fixed Attribute points, Players also had five free Attribute points to assign.
Although they were called free Attribute points, when Chen Mo looked, he found that out of these five free Attribute points, only four could be freely assigned by him. The remaining one had to be assigned to the Player’s non-main Attribute points.
Among them, Constitution was a main Attribute point for all classes. Besides Constitution, the Hunter’s main Attribute points also included Strength and Intelligence. That meant, out of the five free Attribute points, one Attribute point had to be assigned to either Agility or Spirit.
The remaining four Attribute points were the true free Attribute points. Players could assign them to any Attribute point they wanted.
For Hunters, although Agility and Spirit were not main Attributes, they could not be ignored. Among them, Agility affected the speed of setting traps and the firing speed of Crossbow Bolts. Spirit could affect the Loyalty of the Hunter’s Pet. Do not underestimate Loyalty. Loyalty related to whether the pet obeyed commands and fought actively. A pet with low Loyalty, no matter how powerful itself was, would be difficult to provide much help to the Player.
Besides that, among the Hunter’s three main Attributes, Strength affected the Physical Attack Power of traps and Crossbow Bolts. Constitution affected Health Points. Intelligence affected the attack power of the Hunter’s Pet.
The hardest to choose between were, of course, the assignments for Strength and Intelligence. These two Attributes represented two different Hunter paths. Adding to Strength definitely meant taking the Crossbow Bolt path. Adding to Intelligence meant only taking the Pet path.
Whether to take the Crossbow Bolt or Pet path, Chen Mo had not decided at first. But right now, traps were the most important to him. So in Attribute assignment, Chen Mo did not hesitate to add 1 point to the Agility Attribute. The remaining 4 Attribute points, he added all to Strength.
Right after entering the game, when Chen Mo equipped the worn Crossbow Bolt weapon, his total Physical Attack Power was 4—5. After equipping the Light Speed Death title, Strength increased by 1 point, and total attack power became 5—6. Now, after leveling up to 2 and assigning all the Attributes, his Strength Attribute reached 11 points, and total attack power became 12—13.
Calculating this way, it seemed 1 point of Strength only increased Physical Attack Power by 1 point.
But Chen Mo knew it was definitely not calculated that way. If he took off the weapon, his attack power would instantly become 0. Clearly, the amount of attack power was closely related to the weapon’s base Physical Attack Power.
This could be known from the fact that the attack power on the weapon was not directly written as “Attack Power” but as “Base Physical Attack Power”.
But how to calculate it specifically, he could not figure out for now.
But without a doubt, after leveling up, his attack power more than doubled, and his Health Points increased by 40 more points. He could almost withstand one more attack from a White Goblin.
Chen Mo immediately tested how much his damage had increased on the last White Goblin.
He quickly set up a trap. The White Goblin stepped on it, and the trap exploded with a bang.
—43!
A damage of over forty floated above the White Goblin’s head. Chen Mo’s damage had almost doubled!
The damage increase was a bit less than Chen Mo had imagined. After all, his attack power had more than doubled. But after thinking a little, Chen Mo knew that the damage to monsters in the game probably had another calculation formula. Otherwise, with his pitiful five or six points of attack power at level 1, how could he have dealt over twenty points of damage?
With such a big increase in damage, Chen Mo easily killed the last White Goblin.
System Notification: You gained 30 Experience Points!
One White Goblin still gave Chen Mo 30 Experience Points, but the experience bar only increased by less than 7%. It seemed that each level required significantly more experience.
There were still forty or fifty Black Goblins in the valley. Black Goblins were level 4 monsters. Chen Mo estimated that after killing all of them, his level could reach level 4.
Picking up the few copper coins dropped by the White Goblin, Chen Mo ran into the cave.
The Bronze Treasure Chest lay quietly at the end of the cave. Without the White Goblins blocking the way, Chen Mo walked straight to the Treasure Chest. With a move of his hand, he opened the Treasure Chest.
System Notification: You obtained the Skill Book “Shockwave Trap”!
System Notification: You obtained the equipment “Ordinary Hand Crossbow”!
“There really are good items!”
Chen Mo’s spirits lifted.
The items in the Treasure Chest were more than he imagined. Not only was there a Skill Book, but there was also a weapon!
