Chapter 28: Ambushing the BOSS
Chapter 28: Ambushing the BOSS
The quest for the beggar’s wolf meat and the Goblin’s Poison quest were repeatable quests. However, each time the beggar’s wolf meat quest was completed, the required amount of wolf meat increased by 10 pieces. Chen Mo wanted to gather more wolf meat while other players couldn’t enter Wild Wolf Valley, so he prepared in advance.
After more than half an hour, Chen Mo collected over a hundred pieces of wolf meat from Wild Wolf Valley.
He removed the Fallen One title to enter Earl Town, used 50 pieces of wolf meat, and found the beggar to complete the quest twice. He obtained two worn-out solution bottles. Chen Mo stored the extra wolf meat in his warehouse, then went to the general store to buy a backpack full of wooden bolts for his crossbow, several ropes, and a few iron shovels.
Everything was ready, and now the only thing left was figuring out how to kill the Mutant Slime King BOSS.
If other players heard that someone planned to solo the Mutant Slime, they would think that person was crazy.
The BOSS’s attributes absolutely overwhelmed players. Even though the Mutant Slime King was only a level 10 low-tier BOSS, players stood no chance against it on the Slime Plains where there were no obstacles.
The Mutant Slime King had a huge aggro range, but Chen Mo had no way to lure it away from the Slime Plains. He also couldn’t find any obstacles to use against the Mutant Slime King.
However, Chen Mo thought of another method.
Arriving at the Slime Plains, Chen Mo spent his last coins to collect 100 portions of green Slime Venom. After obtaining two bottles of Slime Venom, he approached three male players separately, “Hey, want to earn some extra cash?”
“Extra cash?” All three looked at Chen Mo with interest.
Chen Mo didn’t pick these three randomly; he could tell when someone was short on money. These three clearly seemed to be struggling in real life.
“I accepted a quest to dig for a treasure map, and the area to dig is quite big. I want to hire you to help. It will take an hour, and I’ll pay 200 Huaxia Currency.” Chen Mo had already prepared an excuse, and it wasn’t just something he came up with casually.
“Deal!” Two hundred Huaxia Currency for an hour, and it was in-game time. All three agreed without hesitation.
Moreover, hearing about treasure, they were all tempted.
The transaction method was simple. This time, Chen Mo and the three players used a traditional trading website, agreed on the transaction details, and Chen Mo prepaid. The three recorded their work process as evidence. With evidence, they didn’t have to worry about not getting paid.
Chen Mo brought the three to a spot on the Slime Plains where no monsters spawned. Without monsters, there were no other players around.
“Can we really dig up treasure here?”
Looking at the plain, unremarkable grassland, the three were quite skeptical.
“An NPC secretly told me. You’ll know once you dig. Just do it since you’re getting paid!” Chen Mo didn’t feel like explaining more and tossed three iron shovels to them, urging them to start.
Hearing this, the three obediently picked up the shovels and began digging. If they slacked off and got caught, they might lose the 200 Huaxia Currency.
That’s right—to kill the Mutant Slime King, Chen Mo planned to dig a pit!
A pit with a radius of over one meter and a depth of over three meters!
The Mutant Slime King could only jump about one meter high. If he could force the Mutant Slime King into the three-meter pit, it would be at his mercy!
Digging such a big pit by himself would take who knows how long, so Chen Mo hired these three to help.
Of course, time was one issue if he dug it himself, but hiring the three had another purpose.
As the three dug, they carefully observed their surroundings. They had already decided that if any treasure actually appeared, they would snatch it first. Compared to treasure, the 200 Huaxia Currency was nothing!
Seeing the greed in their eyes, Chen Mo just laughed to himself.
If there really was treasure buried here, why would I hire you? So naïve!
Unlike in real life, digging in the game was quite fast. Players didn’t feel tired while digging, but their stamina decreased. When stamina was low, resting would gradually restore it.
After more than half an hour, a circular pit over three meters in diameter was formed.
“There’s no sign of any treasure at all,” one player said discontentedly, glancing at Chen Mo.
They had dug for over half an hour with high hopes. Even though they were getting paid, they felt cheated.
“It seems that NPC was lying. Alright, stop digging. You can log off and collect your payment.” Feeling it was about time, Chen Mo waved his hand, telling them to stop. He threw three ropes down so they could climb out.
After the three left to collect their money, Chen Mo quickly took off his Shoes of Swift Wind, buried them in the soil to make them look freshly unearthed, and took a screenshot.
After saving the image, Chen Mo also climbed out of the pit.
However, he didn’t go far. Instead, he used his Camouflage Skill and hid nearby.
Soon after, one person sneaked back under the cover of night. Not seeing Chen Mo, he was momentarily stunned but gritted his teeth and jumped into the pit, rummaging around for a while.
Finding nothing, he clumsily climbed back out.
It was already late at night, and the sky was dark. Chen Mo watched the player’s figure fade into the darkness and chuckled. This guy really didn’t give up, but after this, he probably wouldn’t return. Now Chen Mo could confidently lure the Mutant Slime King over.
“I need to hurry!”
Chen Mo put his Shoes of Swift Wind back on and quickly ran toward the Slime King.
Pits dug by players would be automatically restored by the System if there was no player activity within half an hour.
“Good, no one’s around.” As he approached the Slime King, there were no other players nearby. Chen Mo immediately drank a bottle of Slime Venom.
“Roar!”
The Slime King sensed it, let out an angry roar, and instantly mutated!
Chen Mo quickly equipped the Fallen One title and lured the Mutant Slime King toward the pit he had dug.
It was nighttime in the game, and players’ vision was limited to about ten meters. Although there were players leveling up by killing monsters in the distance, no one knew that the Slime King had mutated and was being led away by someone with a wild idea.
It was less than a five-minute run to the pit. Chen Mo had already checked the route; unless a player happened to pass by, he wouldn’t run into anyone. After all, he had deliberately chosen a monster-free area to dig.
While running, Chen Mo used Traps to attack the Mutant Slime King.
The Mutant Slime King had a huge amount of Health Points—Chen Mo estimated around 100,000. Killing it would be a massive task.
During the five-minute run, Chen Mo only managed a limited number of attacks. Even with the Slime Venom effect, each attack only reduced the Slime King’s Health Points by a few dozen to a hundred. Combined with the Mutant Slime King’s fast health regeneration, the total damage dealt wasn’t much.
After a few minutes, the pit he dug was visible about ten meters ahead. However, the Mutant Slime King had only lost around 8,000 Health Points, leaving over 90,000 remaining.
Those few minutes were tough for Chen Mo. If he didn’t attack the Mutant Slime King, it was fine, but once he did, the Mutant Slime King didn’t just chase him—it occasionally sped up, rolling toward Chen Mo to ram him.
If not for Chen Mo’s Shockwave Trap, which could interrupt the Mutant Slime King’s rolling charge, he would have died long ago.
The pit was right in front of him. The only problem now was how to push the Mutant Slime King into it.
Chen Mo jumped directly into the pit. The Mutant Slime King definitely wouldn’t be foolish enough to jump in after him. Instead, Chen Mo lured it to the edge of the pit, sticking close to the side as he ran.
The Mutant Slime King chased after him.
Camouflage!
Chen Mo suddenly used his Camouflage Skill. The Mutant Slime King paused for a moment, but soon detected him.
How could a basic Camouflage Skill completely fool a mutated BOSS? Using the skill only made the Mutant Slime King hesitate for a split second.
But that split second was enough. Chen Mo had moved to the side of the Mutant Slime King and threw a Shockwave Trap at it.
Boom!
The Mutant Slime King’s massive body floated uncontrollably and fell into the pit!
