Chapter 162: Summoned by the City Lord

“Wind, Flower, Snow, Moon, will your method be sabotaged again, leading to failure in the end?”

Outside the city, No Lack of Money and Wind, Flower, Snow, Moon were still watching the commotion when No Lack of Money suddenly asked.

“I don’t know,” Wind, Flower, Snow, Moon thought for a moment and said. “But the NPC who gave the quest said that if I successfully set up this Magic Barrier in Eastern Sea City, Eastern Sea City would definitely lose this siege.”

“Is that so? Then I’m relieved.” No Lack of Money chuckled.

Once inside the Magic Barrier, Xue Ye Hua stepped forward and knocked on the door. Kamen opened it, saw Xue Ye Hua, and nodded, allowing both of them to enter.

Chen Mo had met Andergreen, the Great Ice Mage. Compared to Andergreen, Kamen seemed more like an ordinary old man. If Xue Ye Hua hadn’t mentioned it, Chen Mo would never have imagined Kamen was a Grand Mage.

Unlike Andergreen’s spacious castle, Kamen’s house was very small. But inside, Chen Mo saw numerous magic books and magical materials.

“So, you’re one of the Adventurers who rescued Princess Peraldili.”

Xue Ye Hua introduced Chen Mo, and Kamen’s expressionless face visibly softened as he looked at Chen Mo.

“You’ve come to see me about the Magic Barrier covering the entire city?”

After the two explained their purpose, Kamen pondered quietly.

“Yes, Grand Mage Kamen. Can you tell us how to destroy those Magic Arrays?” Xue Ye Hua nodded.

Kamen slowly shook his head. “There’s no way. You’re thinking too simply. A Magic Barrier that can protect an entire city isn’t so easily destroyed. Unlike ordinary Magic Arrays, once this kind of city-protecting Magic Barrier is activated, it first protects the Magic Array itself. You’d need the Strength to break through the Magic Barrier to damage the Magic Array. Moreover, these Magic Arrays are multiple individual arrays connected into a whole. If you can’t damage them simultaneously in multiple places within a short time, it’s absolutely impossible to destroy them.”

“But the people at the City Lord’s Mansion said you have a way…” Chen Mo frowned.

Passing through the Crimson Poison Mist, the two quickly returned to the City Lord’s Mansion.

They found the old NPC who had given the Quest and relayed Kamen’s message.

“So that’s how it is? Even Grand Mage Kamen has no solution?” The old NPC muttered to himself.

“Thank you, brave Adventurers. You’ve worked hard.” However, he quickly collected himself and nodded to the two.

Huh, at least this doomed Quest still offered a reward. 1000 Points as a delivery fee was quite good.

However, Chen Mo knew that even these 1000 Points weren’t easy to earn. They managed to get them so effortlessly because they knew Kamen. He wondered if Kamen would even bother with others who didn’t know him.

Both of them had accumulated many Points, and Chen Mo and Xue Ye Hua both wanted to spend them first.

Given the current situation, if the old NPC didn’t give them more Quests, Eastern Sea City would likely face disaster.

If Eastern Sea City fell, it was uncertain whether Points would even be useful anymore. Naturally, they had to use their Points now.

Chen Mo currently had quite a few Points. With the newly acquired 1000 Points, he had over 13,000 usable Points.

Chen Mo turned to find Vena and upgraded his two remaining combat skills, Basic Trap and Slight Poison Crossbow, to intermediate level.

As Chen Mo turned to leave, the old NPC also stopped standing in place to assign Quests. Instead, he hurried away and headed to the second floor of the City Lord’s Mansion.

However, due to the Crimson Poison Mist, no new Players could enter the City Lord’s Mansion. With no one accepting Quests around the old NPC, few noticed his unusual actions.

Chen Mo quickly upgraded both skills to intermediate level. He still had over 9,000 usable Points left.

This amount was awkward. Purple level 20 equipment required around 8,000 Points to exchange for one piece. Level 25 equipment needed 11,000 Points, and Chen Mo still needed to save 2,000 Points to upgrade the unlearned Sea Spear skill, Powerful Throw.

While Chen Mo hesitated over whether to exchange for a pair of level 20 purple shoes to use, the old NPC hurried down from the second floor and approached him.

“Brave Adventurer, please follow me. Our City Lord has a matter she’d like to ask for your help with!”

The City Lord?

Chen Mo was startled, then realized a major Quest might be coming.

But when Chen Mo looked toward Xue Ye Hua, she was busy exchanging rewards and completely unaware of his situation. Clearly, the City Lord of Eastern Sea City had invited only him.

There could be many reasons why only he was invited and not Xue Ye Hua. Chen Mo didn’t bother guessing. He was more curious about what Quest the City Lord would give him.

Did the City Lord of Eastern Sea City have some means to turn the situation around? But it didn’t seem likely. If just his help alone could achieve that, it would be way too overpowered.

Following the old NPC, Chen Mo kept speculating. But before he could figure anything out, they reached the second floor, and he met the City Lord of Eastern Sea City.

Chen Mo had assumed the City Lord of Eastern Sea City would be an old man. But upon seeing the City Lord in person, he was taken aback.

“This is City Lord Joanna!” The old NPC pointed to a beautiful female NPC with blue wavy hair and introduced her.

This beautiful NPC was very young, probably around twenty-five years old. She had light blue wavy hair and eyes, and wore a noble dress in silver and black. Smiling at Chen Mo, she exuded a faint aura of royal dignity, worthy of being a City Lord.

No one had ever seen the City Lord of Eastern Sea City before. Chen Mo guessed he was the first. On the Forum, many Players had speculated about the appearances of the three City Lords. Most believed they were elderly male NPCs. While the other two cities were unclear, nobody had expected the City Lord of Eastern Sea City to be such a beautiful and charismatic woman.

Although Eastern Sea City’s situation was dire, Joanna’s fair face showed no trace of anxiety. Instead, she looked at Chen Mo with interest.

“This Adventurer is truly impressive. If I were a bit younger, I might have fallen for you.” Joanna chuckled softly.

“It’s not too late to fall for me now.” Chen Mo smiled. Flirting with an NPC—he wondered what might happen. The thought alone made him curious.

“You’re too young. I prefer mature men.” Joanna said with a smile.

Damn, are you saying I’m not mature enough?

But compared to those old men, it was undeniable that he was still young.

“City Lord Joanna, what matter do you need my help with?” Chen Mo asked seriously.

“Mmm. I’ve heard some things about you. You’ve been to the Land of Exile, escaped from there, and you’re not afraid of the Sea Clan’s Crimson Poison Mist. I have a task I’d like you to do for me back in the Land of Exile. Would you be willing?” Joanna hummed in thought before speaking.

“Please allow me to ask some questions first. As you know, I escaped from the Land of Exile. If I return, will I be captured and punished more severely? Also, how would I get to the Land of Exile? If it requires me to kill many fellow Adventurers to go there, I’d have to think carefully.”

“Neither of those is a problem. For you Adventurers, the Land of Exile has special rules. Once you escape from there, your past offenses are wiped clean and won’t be pursued. As for the second question, if you decide to help me, I’ll give you a Teleportation Scroll that can take you directly to the Land of Exile. Of course, once you’re in the Land of Exile, matters are out of my hands. Teleportation Scrolls can’t be used inside. To leave, you’ll have to escape on your own or wait for the Teleportation Array to open.” Joanna seemed prepared for these questions and answered Chen Mo quickly, even addressing how he would return.

“Then, City Lord Joanna, what is it you want me to do for you?” Chen Mo nodded and asked.

“I want you to go to the Land of Exile and kill an important Sea Clan figure imprisoned there.”

“An important Sea Clan figure?” Chen Mo felt a chill.

“Exactly. Strictly speaking, that important Sea Clan figure was captured by Eastern Sea City during past battles with the Sea Clan and then imprisoned in the Land of Exile. The reason the Sea Clan is targeting Eastern Sea City so strongly is because of that important figure.”

“If that important figure is a hostage, why kill them?” Chen Mo couldn’t help asking.

Killing an important Sea Clan figure imprisoned in the Land of Exile seemed to offer no benefit to Eastern Sea City or the Human Race.
