Chapter 151: Too Famous

The Resurrection Point in the Sea Clan city, a group of Sea Clan players walked out, looking utterly confused.

“How could there be such a powerful trap?”

“Forget the insane power, the area of effect was ridiculously huge too! Plus it had strong crowd control! Once you’re hit, your only option was just to die!”

The group grumbled angrily. They had died without even understanding why. After realizing they were trapped, they could do nothing but helplessly wait for death.

“That guy’s bounty reward got raised to 3,000 Points!”

“Damn it! How many people has he messed up and killed? Half of everyone who died and came back recently was killed by him! No wonder the quest reward is so high now.”

All around, people were buzzing with discussion. This group of Sea Clan players quickly discovered they weren’t the only victims. Many other Sea Clan teams had been tricked and killed by the same hated Hunter using the same method. The city’s Quest Hall had even issued a specialized kill quest targeting him.

If they killed that Hunter, they would receive a huge 3,000-Point reward instantly!

The reward was incredibly tempting, and quite a few Sea Clan players were tempted. But hardly any Sea Clan player actually believed they could kill that Hunter.

With so many people killed, everyone knew exactly what tricks that Hunter had.

His attack power was ferocious – roughly five arrows were enough to kill a player outright. His traps were even more overpowered – a large trap could wipe an entire team. And his vision range was massive; their own vision offered zero advantage against him!

But that wasn’t all. Some Assassin Players tried to Stealth carefully, sneak behind him to ambush him. Even after landing their Control Skill, controlling him, they still stood a chance. Yet, that Hunter also had a ridiculously overpowered Pet with high attack power and group control skills. Master and Pet working together offered almost no gap in defense. Surviving him was hard enough; actively trying to kill him was just asking to die! Several individuals, even two whole teams, had tried to kill that Hunter. They ended up getting killed themselves and sent back to the city.

“Come on, let’s go accept that quest!”

Nobody truly wanted to hunt that overpowered Hunter. But almost every Sea Clan player accepted the quest to kill him. Firstly, accepting the quest gave them one free teleport back to Eastern Sea City. Secondly, once they had the quest, they would periodically receive the Hunter’s approximate location, allowing them to avoid him early and steer clear of contact!

On the Sea Clan’s Game Forum, someone had posted detailed descriptions of his appearance and combat tactics. These posts urged any Sea Clan player who saw him, other than those with top-tier power, to just run upon spotting him. They were definitely warned against acting alone: because the Hunter’s vision range was vast, a solo player spotted by him only met one end – death.

……

“Damn it, did I farm too hard? Why have Sea Clan players vanished so abruptly?”

After rocketing to first place on the Points Ranking, Chen Mo had furiously hunted for another half hour, racking up nearly 3,000 more Points. His total available Points soared close to 11,000. But then, he suddenly noticed the number of Sea Clan players had plummeted.

It became incredibly rare to find a solo player. There were still teams, but these Sea Clan squads stopped taking his bait entirely. Spotting him alone, they didn’t even consider attacking; they just turned tail and sprinted away.

He considered setting Vortex Traps ahead along their paths. But these Sea Clan players had grown cautious. They were actually using summoned Pets to scout ahead!

Seeing this, Chen Mo instantly understood. He was definitely on their Black Name list. They were refusing to play his game anymore. And the drastically reduced numbers he encountered likely meant they had a way to detect his approach.

After another half-hour of fruitless searching, Chen Mo knew his guess was almost certainly right.

In those thirty minutes, the only Points he earned came from successfully ambushing one team with Sesshylow’s Hurricane Skill. Other than that? Nothing.

For someone reaping nearly 8,000 Points an hour earlier, just over 1,000 Points in half an hour felt like a huge disappointment.

But with the Sea Clan players dead-set on avoiding him, Chen Mo couldn’t force it.

After some thought, Chen Mo decided to head back to the City Lord’s Mansion. He needed to spend some Points and see if there were any new quests there.

He had over 12,000 Points available now. Since the Sea Clan had released quests specifically targeting players like him, dying and losing a massive chunk of Points would be a disaster best avoided. Better to spend his Points now, clearing that worry from his mind.

“Huh? A team getting ambushed by Sea Clan players on the left?”

While traveling back toward Eastern Sea City, Chen Mo, viewing the area through Sesshylow’s vision, suddenly spotted a team being ambushed by Sea Clan players ahead and to his left. He caught it just in time — the Sea Clan had launched their attack, and the ambushed Human Race team was rapidly losing Health Points but hadn’t lost a player yet. Judging by the Sea Clan’s offensive power, deaths would start dropping one after another in less than ten seconds.

“It’s them!”

Chen Mo was about to jump into the fray, take out the Sea Clan squad, and bag some Points. But looking closer, he suddenly recognized the ambushed team – they were classmates from the Chinese Language Department!

Yang Liu, Gu Feixing, and Luo Hua were all in the group!

Gu Feixing only had a sliver of Health Points left and would die within seconds. Chen Mo immediately dashed forward, putting on a burst of speed.

If it had just been Luo Hua’s team, Chen Mo would likely have waited for them to die before stepping in to wipe out the Sea Clan players and collect their Points. But with Yang Liu and Gu Feixing present, he couldn’t just stand by and watch.

“Hold your formations! I’m coming to help!” he shouted loudly as he closed in from behind them.

“Chen Mo?” Recognizing the voice, Yang Liu whipped her head around.

Seeing him rushing toward them, Yang Liu urgently called out, “You’re too low Level! You can’t help! Coming here is just throwing your life away! Get back, quickly!”

“No! Chen Mo, hurry over here and block some attacks! Your Level is low, so if you die, you lose less Experience! Just hold them off a bit to give us time to counterattack!” Luo Hua countered loudly upon seeing Chen Mo.

In Luo Hua’s view, Chen Mo was only Level 18. Dying and losing a tiny bit of Experience was basically meaningless. In contrast, everyone else in the team was Level 24 or higher; dying meant losing significant Experience. Sacrificing Chen Mo offered a chance: they could use him as a shield, potentially seize the moment to kill these Sea Clan players, avoid dying themselves, and even make a large Points gain.

You little jerk. If Yang Liu and the others weren’t here, I wouldn’t even need the Sea Clan to kill you. I would trick him myself! Chen Mo glared at that shameless Luo Hua. But outwardly, he seemed to follow Luo Hua’s orders. He didn’t turn back. Maintaining his speed, he sprinted toward the chaotic group.

He’s actually still coming?!

Luo Hua hadn’t expected Chen Mo to charge forward like this. He’d shouted those things on purpose, hoping Chen Mo would be put off and leave. If Chen Mo turned away, Luo Hua could later blame the team wipe (if it happened) entirely on Chen Mo calling him a coward. That would surely damage Chen Mo’s standing in Yang Liu’s eyes. Plus, dying in this Game only meant losing some Experience – no big deal! He didn’t know if there was something specific going on between Yang Liu and Chen Mo. But extinguishing any possible sparks early was always the safer bet!

Since Chen Mo kept coming, Luo Hua decided he’d let him die gloriously as a decoy to create an opening for their own attacks!

Luo Hua settled on his plan. But at that moment, the ambushing Sea Clan players naturally noticed Chen Mo fast approaching.

Sesshylow, his distinctively recognizable Pet, wasn’t at his side. But these Sea Clan players were far from unfamiliar with Chen Mo himself. Screenshots of him were currently plastered all over the dedicated Sea Clan Game Forum. As soon as this Sea Clan team laid eyes on him, they instantly recognized him as that insanely cruel Hunter – the one who’d slaughtered dozens of Sea Clan players!

“Bad luck! Why did we run into him?!”

“We were focused on the ambush! Never noticed him closing in!”

“Retreat! With him here, finishing these guys is impossible. We could end up dead!”

The Sea Clan players immediately lost any fighting spirit upon seeing Chen Mo. Launching a final, furious barrage of attacks to push back their targets, the entire team instantly retreated at top speed.

Chen Mo wasn’t too surprised by the Sea Clan team’s sudden withdrawal. It just reinforced his suspicion: his fame among Sea Clan players was almost certainly… sky-high now. They recognized him at a glance.

Sigh. Seems being too famous really isn’t such a good thing.

Chasing them down was easy. Letting Sesshylow pin them while he finished them off wouldn’t have taken much effort. But after a second’s thought, Chen Mo decided not to pursue.

If he gave chase, Yang Liu and the others would most likely follow. That would reveal his strength completely.

He disliked trouble. If the entire class knew how powerful he was, everyone would be pestering him for help! Avoiding help requests would be rude, accepting them exhausting. The mere thought gave him a headache. Better to just hide his true power for now.

“They… ran away? Hah! They must have seen Chen Mo coming! Thought the numbers were against them, feared losses!”

Gu Feixing laughed heartily, seeming to find it completely logical.

“Lucky break. Thanks, Chen Mo!” The rest also found this explanation plausible. Breathing sighs of relief, they quickly thanked Chen Mo. He hadn’t lifted a finger. But if he hadn’t arrived and scared off the Sea Clan players, they wouldn’t have survived.

“Thank you.” Yang Liu walked over too, offering her quiet thanks.

She told him to leave. He stayed. It naturally warmed her impression of him slightly. However, recalling that night again, an involuntary blush spread across her cheeks.

“Hey, Chen Mo! How did you jump to Level 23?” Gu Feixing noticed Chen Mo had swapped out most of his gear. Scouting his status, he was shocked to see Chen Mo’s Level had shot up to 23! He blurted the question out loud. Just ten-plus hours ago, Chen Mo was only Level 18! Leveling five times that fast? Pure insanity!

“So that’s why he dared rush over. His Levels shot up that much.”

Luo Hua laughed quietly, his comment dripping with sarcasm.
