Chapter 91: The Master Steals a Peach
Chapter 91: The Master Steals a Peach
The Song River surged with waves, and the road along its banks was long and winding.
The red Ferrari sports car rounded a curve, slowed its speed, coasted for a stretch, and finally came to a stop by the roadside.
Li Zian, who was checking his mobile phone on an app, looked up and asked in surprise, “Why have we stopped?”
Mu Chuntao leaned over to glance at his mobile phone screen, noticing reviews for The Peninsula Hotel. She pursed her lips and smiled, “Not bad taste—that’s the best hotel in Shanghai. Their afternoon tea is pretty special, but even a regular room costs over three thousand a night. Isn’t that too pricey?”
Li Zian’s face reddened slightly, but he tried to act experienced, “Well, only the best hotel suits you.”
Mu Chuntao grinned, “Seems like you’re an old hand at this. Be honest—how many girls have you taken to a hotel for a room?”
Li Zian couldn’t keep up the act, “When we first met, I was still gathering herbs in the mountains. There are no hotels where I’m from, and you’re also…”
“Also what?” Mu Chuntao looked at him expectantly.
Li Zian gazed at her affectionately and lowered his voice, “You’re the first girl I’ve ever dated.”
“Didn’t you date Yu Meilin?” She seemed skeptical.
“No, we were married for four years, and she only came back once a year on the Old Matriarch’s birthday. She barely even spoke to me.” Li Zian gave a bitter smile, “But things are better now; she’s willing to talk to me. Is there anything else you want to know? Ask, and I’ll tell you.”
He didn’t really want to discuss this, especially not topics related to Yu Meilin at that moment, but he knew Mu Chuntao was curious. So, if she asked, he would answer.
No matter how this ill-fated romance ended, he believed in being honest and not deceiving anyone—that was the bare minimum.
If you liked someone, you should like them purely and cleanly.
Mu Chuntao stared straight into Li Zian’s eyes and whispered, “Silly, I only really wanted to ask you one question.”
“What is it?”
“Do you like me?”
Li Zian nodded, “Yes, I like you… Mmph!”
Before he could finish his sentence, Mu Chuntao suddenly leaned in and gave him a quick kiss.
She was so impatient.
The distance between them went from zero to negative.
The most exquisite delicacy in the world isn’t some famous dish cooked with rare ingredients and masterful skill—it’s the one you see in your lover’s eyes.
Sometimes, the best flavor comes from devouring each other.
Was Crescent Moon Village’s Wu Yanzu’s spicy rabbit head not delicious enough?
A car suddenly drove past, the wind it stirred up lifting Mu Chuntao’s long hair and brushing it against Li Zian’s face. His face tingled, and his heart did, too.
He reached out with his bandaged hand.
A second later, Mu Chuntao slapped his hand away.
The distance between them went from negative back to positive. Her face was flushed, and his was too. She was breathing a little heavily, and so was he—they looked like two fish gasping for air.
Another car drove by on the road.
If it weren’t for that car, the two of them, lost in each other’s gaze, might have kissed again.
“So, how about The Peninsula Hotel?” Li Zian asked anxiously.
Mu Chuntao just looked at him with tender eyes.
“Not good? Then I’ll find another one.” Li Zian looked back at his mobile phone screen, only to find it had turned off.
“Do… do you really want to eat a peach?” Mu Chuntao’s voice trembled a little.
Li Zian nodded excitedly.
He had been wanting this for years.
Mu Chuntao couldn’t help but laugh, “So silly.”
Li Zian grinned awkwardly.
“I saw a peach tree in the woods over there with peaches on it. I’ll go pick one for you,” Mu Chuntao said.
Li Zian was taken aback, bewildered. He instinctively looked over and saw a dense forest and green grass, but no peach tree.
Mu Chuntao got out of the car and jogged across the road.
Li Zian stared in disbelief, “Are you really going to pick a peach?”
Mu Chuntao glanced back at Li Zian but didn’t say anything. Once she left the road and entered the woods, she looked back at him again.
Li Zian scratched his head, looking frustrated, “Was I too subtle? Did she not understand?”
He glanced again at the woods by the roadside. The forest stretched all the way to the banks of the Song River, with lush grass and scattered wildflowers—the scenery was truly beautiful.
But he still didn’t see any peach tree bearing fruit.
Mu Chuntao disappeared into the woods.
“How did she see a peach tree when I can’t?” Li Zian pondered hard.
Suddenly, a thought struck him.
Li Zian smacked his forehead, “Li Zian, you’re such an idiot! She loves outdoor activities. The first time we met, she was parachuting from the sky. A girl who enjoys adventure and nature—why are you talking about hotels? When she said she was going to pick a peach, you were thinking of a tree? You’re hopeless. Isn’t she the peach?”
He couldn’t wait another second. He pulled the car door open and got out. He looked both ways, ready to cross the road to find his peach.
Just then, a truck and a motorcycle came from the direction of Bright Moon Manor. He paused, waiting for them to pass.
The truck sped by, the wind lifting the hem of his Tang suit and revealing his eight-pack abs.
Before he left the mountains, he only had six-pack abs; the other two weren’t very defined. But after nights of practicing Branch-Breaking Boxing and cultivating the Great Slumber Qi Refining Art even in his sleep, he had worked hard, and now all eight were visible, lined up with clear definition.
A man’s most attractive feature is his abs.
As the truck passed, the hem of his Tang suit fell back down, hiding those killer abs.
But they would soon be revealed again, showcasing their strength and masculine charm.
Li Zian’s heart had already flown into the woods.
But the motorcycle slowed down, hesitating to pass by Li Zian.
Li Zian couldn’t help but glance at the motorcycle.
He didn’t know the brand, but it was clearly a high-displacement bike, much larger than ordinary motorcycles. The rider was a woman wearing a helmet, so her face wasn’t visible. She had on denim jeans and a white T-shirt, and the muscles in her arms were well-defined.
The motorcycle quickly drew near, slowing again as it approached the Ferrari sports car.
“Is this person just troublemaking?” Li Zian thought, not caring anymore. Since she wouldn’t pass, he decided to ignore her and stepped toward the opposite side of the road.
Beep beep!
The motorcycle honked.
Li Zian’s legs froze. He turned to look at the rider.
The rider’s clothes…
Damn it!
The motorcycle stopped behind the Ferrari. The female rider took off her helmet—it was none other than Kun Li.
No wonder her clothes and build looked so familiar.
Seeing Kun Li’s face, Li Zian suddenly felt an urge to rush over and strangle her.
Why couldn’t she just leave him alone?
Kun Li just looked at him without speaking.
Li Zian suppressed his anger, “What are you doing here?”
Kun Li said, “Meilin told me to protect you. That killer is still not caught. I had to make sure you are safe, so I’ve been following you in secret.”
Li Zian knew she was talking nonsense, and he was very angry, but in the end, he didn’t take his anger out on her. After all, she was just following Yu Meilin’s orders. To put it nicely, she was a bodyguard; to put it harshly, she was a dog. The problem lay with Yu Meilin. What was the use of scolding her?
In this situation, going into the woods definitely meant they couldn’t enjoy the peaches.
He even felt a bit glad that he hadn’t understood Mu Chuntao’s intention earlier. If he had followed her into the woods right away, and she picked a peach for him to eat, and he was just eating it with gusto when Kun Li suddenly appeared beside them, saying nothing but just watching or filming with her mobile phone—wouldn’t that be awkward?
Scolding people wouldn’t solve the problem. Acting on impulse wouldn’t solve the problem either.
Li Zian took a deep breath and tried hard to suppress the anger in his heart. He said calmly, “We were just about to go back. That killer wouldn’t show up in broad daylight to kill me. You should go back first.”
Kun Li said, “I have to follow you. I promised Meilin to protect you well. I have to guard against any accidents.”
Li Zian laughed in extreme anger. “I need to relieve myself in the woods. Are you going to follow me there too?”
Kun Li nodded.
Li Zian: “…”
“Where is Mu Chuntao?” Kun Li asked.
Li Zian said irritably, “She went into the woods to relieve herself.”
Kun Li’s lips moved as if she wanted to ask Li Zian whether he had been about to cross the road earlier to watch Mu Chuntao relieve herself, but she ultimately didn’t say it.
Just then, Mu Chuntao came out of the woods.
She actually hadn’t gone far. She had been hiding behind a tree, watching Li Zian’s reaction. When Li Zian patted his forehead, she couldn’t help but laugh. When Li Zian got out of the car to cross the road, she grew nervous. Then she saw a motorcycle arrive behind her Ferrari Sports Car. The moment Kun Li took off her helmet, Mu Chuntao really wanted to pounce on her and choke her to death.
Once again, a good thing was ruined.
Mu Chuntao crossed the road with a gloomy Peach Blossom Face. Without even greeting Kun Li, she directly pulled open the car door and got in.
Li Zian also returned to the car.
The red Ferrari started and sped forward, clearly much faster than before.
Kun Li’s motorcycle followed behind, keeping up with the speed.
“What a tailgater! She followed us all the way, and I actually didn’t notice her at all. Why doesn’t her motorcycle get a flat tire?” Mu Chuntao looked quite annoyed.
Li Zian thought for a moment and said, “It must have been that document. She knew we were coming to Bright Moon Manor, so she followed us and hid somewhere, waiting for us to come out.”
Mu Chuntao slapped her forehead. “I’m so stupid. I actually didn’t think of that. If I had known, I would have made a fake document saying we were going somewhere else, so she would go look for us there.”
Li Zian smiled bitterly. “Who would have thought she would follow us?”
Mu Chuntao said, “I can see it now. This is Yu Meilin declaring war on me. Hmm, I suddenly thought of a question: if Yu Meilin and I got into a fight, who would you help?”
Li Zian: “…”
His headache flared up without warning.
“Tell me, I want to know,” Mu Chuntao urged.
Li Zian thought for a moment. “She can’t beat you.”
“Haha, that’s true. Then let me ask it another way: if Yu Meilin and I both fell into the water at the same time, who would you save?” Mu Chuntao glanced sideways at Li Zian and then saw his troubled, bitter face.
The standard version of this question was: if your mother and I both fell into the water, who would you save?
Countless men had been stumped by this question, and to this day, there was no standard answer. How was anyone supposed to answer that?
She changed the question, replacing Li Zian’s mom with Yu Meilin—one was Li Xiaomei’s mother, the other his lover. The difficulty level didn’t change one bit.
Li Zian scratched his forehead. “I’d save one with each hand.”
Mu Chuntao pouted. “You’re really greedy.”
Li Zian said, “I’d save her mother for Xiaomei’s sake, and I’d save you for my own sake.”
Mu Chuntao smiled. One of her hands left the steering wheel and landed on Li Zian’s thigh, tapping it lightly. “You’re so good.”
The piano keys lifted, but no pleasant sound came out; it was utterly silent.
Li Zian felt terrible inside.
“Wait, I have to ask you this way: if Yu Meilin and I both fell into the water at the same time, and you could only save one, who would you save?”
Li Zian: “…”
Did she want him to drown in the water before she was satisfied?
