Chapter 32: An Unexpected Surprise
Chapter 32: An Unexpected Surprise
Yu Meilin went to the company after breakfast. As soon as she left, Tang Qing came.
“Brother Zian, I’m really sorry for causing you and Sister Meilin trouble yesterday,” Tang Qing apologized to Li Zian as soon as she entered the room.
Li Zian smiled and said, “Everyone has their own matters; no need to be so polite. Have you handled everything? If you need any help, just say so.”
“It’s all taken care of now. Thank you.”
“Look at you, being polite again.”
Tang Qing pursed her lips and smiled. “I’ll go check on Xiaomei.”
“Xiao Tang, wait a moment. I want to tell you something,” Li Zian called out to stop her.
“What is it, Brother Zian?”
Li Zian said, “I’m going to see a patient today, so I might not be home for lunch. Could you please make lunch and take care of Grandma and Xiaomei?”
“Sure, no problem.” Tang Qing looked at Li Zian, her eyes full of curiosity. “Brother Zian, are you a Doctor?”
“No, I just learned a little about medicine. If a friend needs help, I’ll take a look.”
“Then if I ever feel unwell, can I ask you to take a look, Brother Zian?” Tang Qing said with a smile.
Li Zian chuckled. “Of course, no problem.”
At ten o’clock, Li Zian carried a bag and went out. He looked left and right, then approached the door next door. Mu Chuntao had left the door open for him, so he didn’t even need to knock; he just pushed it open and went in.
Mu Chuntao came up to greet him. She wore a white short-sleeved shirt on top and a black Bodycon Skirt on the bottom, with flesh-toned stockings and black high heels—a striking office lady outfit.
Used to seeing her in casual clothes, Li Zian felt a bit unaccustomed to her sudden change in style. “Why are you dressed so formally today?” he asked.
Mu Chuntao suddenly bowed to Li Zian and said respectfully, “Greetings, Master.”
Li Zian was slightly taken aback. “What are you doing?”
Mu Chuntao straightened up and said seriously, “You are the Master, and I am the Master’s Assistant. Of course, I should dress more formally. Also, I am now at your service; whatever you ask me to do, I will do.”
Li Zian couldn’t help but laugh. “Stop fooling around.”
But Mu Chuntao kept a straight face. “I’m not fooling around. Let me take your bag for you; I’ll put it away.”
Before Li Zian could react, she came closer and took the bag away.
Li Zian didn’t bother arguing with her; if she wanted to play, he’d let her.
Mu Chuntao put the bag away and said respectfully again, “Master, please have a seat. What would you like to drink?”
Li Zian said with annoyance, “I’d like some ginseng soup. Do you have any?”
Mu Chuntao burst out laughing. “Couldn’t you just ask for water or tea? You know I don’t have ginseng soup here. Are you making things difficult for me?”
Making things difficult for me?
Li Zian felt like he was being teased again.
“I left the door open for you last night. Why didn’t you come?” Mu Chuntao asked.
Li Zian said, “I was busy preparing Medicinal Plaster and making some other arrangements. I really couldn’t get away.”
Mu Chuntao smiled and said, “I thought Yu Meilin kept you at home.”
Li Zian didn’t want to talk about that and changed the subject. “When is that client you mentioned coming?”
“Brother Fan has already driven to pick him up. If there’s no traffic, he should be here in about forty to fifty minutes,” Mu Chuntao said.
Li Zian felt he had come too early, but since he was already here, he couldn’t just go back.
Mu Chuntao stared straight at Li Zian and said with a smile, “You look really good in a Tang Suit, like a nobleman from ancient times who excelled in poetry and literature.”
“Who?”
“Tang Monk.”
Li Zian: “…”
Mu Chuntao giggled. “No? Then maybe Ximen Qing.”
Li Zian looked at her speechlessly.
Honestly, he really wanted to jump up and grab her by the neck.
Mu Chuntao shrugged. “I’ll go make you a cup of tea instead. What kind would you like?”
“Anything is fine,” Li Zian said.
Mu Chuntao brewed a cup of Tieguanyin tea and then sat opposite Li Zian, watching him drink.
Halfway through his tea, the doorbell rang.
“Probably Brother Fan is back with the client. I’ll get the door,” Mu Chuntao said as she stood up and walked toward the entrance.
Li Zian sighed inwardly with relief. Mu Chuntao had been staring at him so intently that he even worried she might lose control at some point, leap over the coffee table, and pounce on him for a wild bite.
But he was also happy. The fact that Mu Chuntao could stare at him for so long meant he was good-looking.
The door opened, and Mu Chuntao led two people inside. One was Fan Rui, and the other was a man in his early forties, slender with sharp eyes, wearing a white suit, giving an impression of elegance and efficiency.
Li Zian stood up from the Sofa, waiting for Mu Chuntao to introduce him.
Mu Chuntao brought them over and said with a smile, “Mr. Wen, this is the Master.”
Li Zian extended his hand. “Hello, Mr. Wen.”
Wen Sheng shook Li Zian’s hand. “I didn’t expect the Master to be so young. Truly talented at a young age.”
The words were polite, but Li Zian saw a hint of disappointment in Wen Sheng’s eyes.
Eyes don’t lie.
Ever since he inherited Ji Da’s Peerless Skill and entered the path of the Fangshi, he had never been wrong about interpreting people’s eyes.
But Li Zian didn’t mind. He said calmly, “Mr. Wen, you have preconceived notions—thinking most people in our line of work are older, and that young people lack experience and have shallow skills, right?”
Wen Sheng said, “Master, don’t misunderstand. I—”
Li Zian cut him off. “No need to explain, Mr. Wen. Let me take a look at you.”
Wen Sheng glanced at Fan Rui.
It was just a subconscious move, but Li Zian could tell that Wen Sheng trusted Fan Rui far more than he trusted him at that moment.
Fan Rui nodded slightly.
Wen Sheng fell silent and just stood quietly.
Li Zian cleared his mind of distractions, focused his spirit, and the Great Sluggish Cauldron awakened, releasing wisps of Zhenqi that gathered in his eyes.
In his vision, Wen Sheng’s face was no longer a complete face. It was dissected—eyes were eyes, nose was nose—each part appearing in his mind.
No one noticed, including Li Zian himself, that deep within his pupils, there was a faint green glow, very eerie.
The Great Slumber Qi Refining Art—sleeping was itself a form of Cultivation. By now, his mastery of this secret technique was far greater than when he first read Kun Li’s fortune.
Wen Sheng thought the process would be quick, but after waiting a minute without Li Zian saying anything, he grew impatient and asked tentatively, “Master, what are you doing?”
Li Zian closed his eyes for a few seconds before opening them again. He then said, “Mr. Wen, you were born in the sixth month of the Wu-Wu year. You are forty-two years old.”
Wen Sheng was unimpressed inwardly—his information could be found online—but he didn’t show it on his face, merely watching Li Zian quietly.
Li Zian continued, “Your wife was born in the Year of the Dragon. Your personalities don’t match, and you often argue. You and your wife have no children.”
Wen Sheng smiled. “Master, these things can be found out with a little inquiry. I’m not surprised. So, tell me why I came here.”
Mu Chuntao frowned slightly; she clearly didn’t like Wen Sheng’s tone when speaking to Li Zian.
Fan Rui looked nervous. After all, he was the one who made the introduction. If Li Zian couldn’t discern Wen Sheng’s motive, he would also feel embarrassed.
Li Zian smiled calmly. “You have two purposes: one is to seek a child, and the other is to quit drugs.”
Wen Sheng was stunned on the spot.
Fan Rui also looked surprised. He knew Wen Sheng came to seek a child, but he didn’t know about the goal to quit drugs.
“The Master is truly amazing! How did you know?” After a brief daze, Wen Sheng came back to his senses and asked curiously.
Li Zian said, “Let me finish.”
“Of course, of course. Please speak, Master,” Wen Sheng said, his tone much more respectful.
Li Zian said, “There’s one thing I didn’t want to mention, but since you came to me and Brother Fan introduced you, it wouldn’t be right not to tell you. However, if I say it, I’m afraid you might feel embarrassed, so I’m a bit hesitant.”
“What is it, Master? Please speak frankly. Why would I feel embarrassed?”
Li Zian paused briefly before saying, “You are destined to have no children, but your wife is pregnant.”
“What?” Wen Sheng was stunned once again.
Li Zian said, “You probably don’t know about this yet, but I’m certain the child in your wife’s belly is not yours.”
Wen Sheng’s face darkened. “Then whose is it?”
Li Zian smiled. “Mr. Wen, this is our first meeting. It’s already difficult for me to see this much. As for whose child it is in your wife’s belly, I don’t know right now, but you can start investigating among the people close to you. Whoever frequently has contact with your wife is the most suspicious.”
Wen Sheng said, “I didn’t even know about this. How do you know?”
“I naturally have my methods.”
“I don’t believe it. When I left home this morning, my wife saw me off and even told me she wasn’t feeling well and would see a Doctor today. Whether she’s pregnant or not—I’m her Husband; wouldn’t I know better than you?” Wen Sheng not only didn’t believe it but even showed signs of anger.
Li Zian just smiled faintly.
This was a normal reaction for any man. Not only was his wife unfaithful, but she also got pregnant. Anyone would find it hard to accept. Moreover, this Wen Sheng ran a gambling den and had a drug addiction—he certainly wasn’t on the straight and narrow. Such people cared deeply about face; his current reaction was already quite restrained.
“Mr. Wen, please have a seat. Let’s sit and talk,” Mu Chuntao said.
Ding-ling-ling, ding-ling-ling…
Wen Sheng’s Mobile Phone suddenly rang with an incoming call.
Wen Sheng took out his phone, glanced at it, and then gave Li Zian a strange look.
Li Zian caught a glimpse of the caller ID on the screen—it said “Darling.” He just glanced at it and then averted his gaze. Ignoring Wen Sheng, he sat on the Sofa, picked up his teacup, and took a small sip.
Wen Sheng swiped to answer and lowered his voice. “Darling, it’s me. Go ahead.”
A sweet, delicate woman’s voice came from the phone. “Husband, I have good news for you—you’re going to be a dad!”
Thud!
Wen Sheng’s phone slipped from his hand and fell to the ground.
“Hey, Husband, why aren’t you saying anything?”
Wen Sheng suddenly stomped on the phone, and the screen shattered with a crack.
